Easy, intuitive setup. A sturdy and an efficient grill, requires minimal fuel. Folds up nicely in it's travel case. Very satisfied with this grill.

  • New favorite Pair
Style: Large size Charcoal Grill (MT-3)
Initially bought a firesense notebook grill (cheap, annoying to clean ashes, factory smells from paint) which I returned and fortunately paid the extra for this and the foldable chimney (larger version). Fits perfectly, easy to setup, use, and clean thanks to the ash pan. Seems to produce better heat zones as well. Firesense charcoal grate isnt flush with side panels so if you pour hot coals from chimney incorrectly you'll be fussing with getting the grate leveled if it falls down one angle. This one folds up nicer, definitely more premium and seeminglh longer lasting parts. 3 cooks in and its become my favorite grill for short camping trips and quick backyard cooks for family of 4. ... show more

  • Cool Q
Style: Medium size Charcoal Grill (MT-2)
This is a cool portable grill. Easy set up (it came with an English copy of instructions and safety warnings). It has manufacturing residue on it. Good to clean before use. Fits nicely in the provided travel bag. I got the medium 14" size. Perfect for me and a couple friends. Weather cleared enough to try it out. A bit breezy. I don't think I'd ever use this as a portable fire pit, just as a grill with charcoal. Though I had no issues with sparks blowing out of the ash tray, I wouldn't use this in the open without a campground fire ring (nor on a plastic or wood table). And I didn't use a lot of coals. It did burn out and cool down pretty quick. Im sure after a few more uses it will be pretty dirty and discoloured, but not too bad first use. Nothing warped, folded right up. Wood would be considerably more dirty, as it has sap and much dirtier than charcoal briquettes. I spray my grills with pam (the only thing I use that stuff for). The grill just sits on top loosely at the lower position. Nothing holds it in place so it can slide around a little. Thus only four stars. And that height was good for searing a burger patty. Having oiled the grill I had no problem flipping the patty without holding the grill. But if stuff sticks might need a glove or something to hold the grill if hot. After everything cooled down clean up was relatively easy. I put a trash bag in the travel carry bag to keep inside cleaner. All good. Burger was too... I like the finer grill (small gaps between) so smaller things, and for shrimp and fish. And the folding. That's why I like it. I have lot of grills etc, but they are bulky to pack for trips. So overall pretty cool. Follow up: I've taken this grill camping a few times now. Having used it about six more times with regular charcoal briquettes I am still quite pleased with it. My main concern was that it might warp with a lot of heat. Not at all. Of course it's a bit discoloured, but it folds up and packs away like new. Easily cleaned. I put a small trash bag in the carry pouch to help keep it clean along with a small grill brush and a pair of leather gloves. Quite satisfied. I've cooked burgers, steaks, and salmon. All came out great. Friend's comments, "Oh that's cool", etc... ... show more

  • Perfect for two people
Style: Medium size Charcoal Grill (MT-2)
The grill size is perfect for two people. Easy to setup, easy to break down, and packs down small. The carrying case is sturdy and does a good job protecting the grill when we're bouncing down the road. My husband is so used to his backyard grill that he wishes there was a cover, but he's getting used to this one when we travel. ... show more

  • WORKS FINE SO FAR
Style: Mini size Charcoal Grill X-MINI
JUST A HEADS-UP, IF YOU PLAN ON COOKING 2 STEAKS ON IT, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO DO IT. THEY WERE TRUTHFUL ON THE SIZE. I USE IT CAMPING BY MYSELF. I DON'T CARRY CHARCOAL AROUND ANYMORE. I COOK OVER WOOD AND IF IT STARTS GOING OUT I ADD A FEW MORE STICKS. IT IS SURPRISINGLY STURDY FOR ITS SIZE. IT'S NOT THAT GREAT IN THE WIND BUT NOTHING IS. I LIKE THE COMPACTNESS. IT'S A LITTLE TRICKY GETTING IT BACK IN THE BAG SO REMEMBER HOW YOU TOOK IT OUT. EASY TO SET UP AND EASY TO GET IT CLEAN. ... show more

  • Great Grill. Solid, Well-Built, Portable, BUT... Some Rusting. Is It Really 304 Stainless Steel?
Style: Medium size Charcoal Grill (MT-2)
This review is for 14" medium grill, MT-2. Purchased for $45.80 - $4.58 (10% off). Let me first address the "is it or isn't it" question about some or all of this grill being 304 stainless steel... Contrary to claims that you read in some reviews, not all stainless steel is NON-MAGNETIC. Depending upon the metallurgical blend (chromium and nickel percentages), there are magnetic flavors, so a magnet test isn't a 'be-all end-all' proof. Having said that, 304 stainless steel is NON-MAGNETIC. In the third image in the "Product image gallery" (the set of pictures toward the bottom as you scroll below the item description, not the ones at the top), it states that "All parts are made of stainless steel..." In the same image that includes the above caption, there are pictures of each component with descriptions. The 'GRILL' and 'FIRE PLACE' are identified, specifically, as being 304 stainless steel. So, which is it, all the parts or just the two? * Update. I did some checking of other CAMPINGMOON grills and it appears that they do use lower grade stainless steel (430 & 201) on some components. I've added bracketed revisions for the GRILL, FIRE PLACE, and SUPPORT LEGS. Below are my quasi-educated guesses. - GRILL. It's NON-magnetic. Probably 304 stainless steel. [ I believe it's 304. ] - COAL BED. It doesn't have a mirror finish, so no chromium content. Definitely not 304. Probably non-magnetic carbon steel. - FIRE PLACE. It's MAGNETIC. 304 is NON-magnetic. Manufacturer claims it's 304. Obviously, there's a contradiction here...? [ Probably 430 stainless steel. ] - ASH TRAY. It's MAGNETIC, so not 304. - SUPPORT LEGS. The tubing/rod is NON-magnetic, so could be 304. But the sheet metal used to join the legs is MAGNETIC and the embossed plate is MAGNETIC, so not 304. [ Tubing is probably 201, not 304. ] I just wish the manufacturer would be more specific and UNAMBIGUOUS in its description. I don't think that's asking too much. The major issue that I have is with the 'FIRE PLACE.' Again, it's claimed to be 304, but it's magnetic. Beyond that, it RUSTS---rather readily. Stainless steel is rust RESISTANT, not rustproof, but this FIRE PLACE rusted much too quickly. Why? After returning from a camping trip, I threw all of the components in the dishwasher (Heavy, Extra Scrub, Sanitize, & Crystal Dry) to degrease and de-char the parts. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know... Much to my dismay, upon opening the dishwasher about two hours after the completed cycle, the inside and outside surface that was discolored/tarnished by the high heat from the charcoal was freckled with a lot of orange. Just the FIRE PLACE. Every other component showed no rust. After a different camping trip, I threw the components in the dishwasher again. Only Heavy and Extra Scrub this time, no Sanitize and Crystal Dry. I removed the parts within 15 minutes of the completed cycle. Same thing: orange freckles on the discolored/tarnished areas. No rust on any of the other components. If the FIRE PLACE is 304 stainless steel, it *should* contain 18% to 20% chromium which adds a high-temperature corrosion resistance property, so the discolored/tarnished areas should have had some protection. So, why did it rust SO QUICKLY? Also, although exposure to high heat for an extended period can make NON-magnetic stainless steel magnetic, this entire FIRE PLACE, both the discolored/tarnished area and the unaffected area, was strongly magnetic, which suggests that it was magnetic from the get-go. How, if it's 304? Anyhoo, onward to the review of the grill... In spite of the above, I really like this puppy. It's solidly made. Nothing flimsy about it. And it folds to a compact size for storage. There's nothing not to like about it when it comes to its design and performance. Yes, there are the "is it or isn't it" question and rust issue, but they're about the material. The heavy material and solid construction are great, but it does limit it to car camping, not backpacking...unless you sneak it into someone else's pack. I purchased this and CAMPINGMOON's large, folding chimney starter, MT-19, at the same time. They're a good complementary pairing. (I left a review of the MT-19, too. CliffsNotes: VG, but warped a bit from heat.) Filled level to the rim, it'll take about 125 to maybe 150 Kingsford charcoal briquettes. I didn't need to do a whole lot of grilling (some hot dogs and Italian sausages) so I used 50 to 60 briquettes, which is probably about the minimum that you should use with this medium grill. (If you're grilling for just one---maybe two, get the smaller X-Mini. You'll have better and more efficient usage of heat from less charcoal. No need to heat the whole house when you're spending all of your time in the bedroom.) The height-adjustable GRILL (grate) allows you to choose between medium or high heat. Just use thick leather gloves to raise or lower the grate. I bought their wire handle, Grate Lifter S200 ($6.90 - $1.04/15% discount). Albeit with a tad of reservation because of the unresolved "is it or isn't it" question, I still would recommend this grill. The manufacturer just needs to make it crystal clear what material is used for each component. If I were rating this just on build, portability, and functionality, I would've given it 5 Stars, but because of the "is it or isn't it" and rust issues, I'm giving it 3 Stars only. CAMPINGMOON needs to amend their description and clarify or correct the issue of "is it or isn't it" to avoid misunderstandings, unrealistic expectations, and, perhaps, misplaced criticisms. ... show more
