These knives came high quality, beautifully packaged, extremely sharp and I love the self-sharpening feature (although haven’t had them long enough to know how well it works). Only issue was with the very first use of the scissors, the wood around the hole chipped from pulling them out…that was disappointing! The knives and block seem to be fine but the scissors dont match and are clearly cheap...I have had other cheap knife sets in the past with better scissors thanbthe ones that come with this set

Very happy with this set. Based on the reviews from others, we’ve been careful to dry immediately after hand washing and have seen zero issues with early corrosion in the 1st 3 months. Out of the box, the chopping and slicing knives are very sharp, and they have good mass (my wife says they are a little too heavy for her liking). The sharpener in the block is effectively the fine/polishing bars from a knife sharpening block. It keeps the knives honed, though I tend to insert a few times when storing to make sure the polishing happens. I have sharpened the most used knives a couple times, but more out of habit to do that regularly than a real need for them to be sharpened. The knife block itself leaves a little to be desired. As many have complained, the exterior can be damaged easily. I sprayed it with a polyurethane clear coat to try and delay some of that wear/tear and I’m still in the habit of inserting knives carefully to not damage the block. I’m sure as time goes on, we’ll damage it plenty. At some point, the Gray could be sanded down and it could be re-stained. The knife block quality doesn’t match the knife quality in my opinion, but it’s not terrible. I’ve still given the set a 5 star rating based on the knives. The block itself would probably only get a 3 for durability and quality of materials reasons. ... show more

They're always very sharp making it easy to cut vegetables into thin strips, meat is easy to chop. Overall a fantastic buy! I recommend these knives. I also like the way they look!

Love this knife set, but the BLOCK with the sharpening inserts is the best. Calphalon nailed it with this feature! Knives pull out sharp every time. It also happens to be sleek and beautiful - way less bulky than other sets.

I had a cheap cutlery block for years. It worked but was interested in a upgrade. You figure a standard chefs knife just needs to be sharpened now and again. What a difference. The handles are sturdy. However high carbon steel can be more chip prone than standard stainless. Very sharp. Skeptical of the built in sharpeners. I have been very happy with my Calphalon pans and they stand by their warranty so I figured it was worth a go. Overall very happy. I actually was most impressed with the steak knives. Very sharp with a dual edge, serrated and straight. Definitely a nice upgrade from the cheap set I owned. Worth the cost. This would be a middle range set. There’s obviously much more expensive premium cutlery sets, but this is very nice. ... show more
