Description

The DCP-02 Brutus Distortion+Overdrive! The right side is our transparent overdrive. Roll the gain back and the volume up, you have a clean/treble boost, or set the gain to add just the right amount of sizzle to your tone. On the left side is a British style distortion. Great for low gain to high gain tones, adjust the Lomid knob for beefy chugs, or crank it up for sharp riffs. We added a middle "voice" switch that adds a classic or modern flavor to either side. Both individually and simultaneously, switching the order giving players the option of boost, overdrive, distortion and fuzz like tones. • Stackable tube screamer and Marshall in a box
I wanted a pedal that had an overdrive that does the tube screamer thing well (for boosting an already heavy sounding amp) this pedal has that. And I also wanted the ability to go from mild overdrive into heavier distortion (with stacking this pedal let’s you do that) This pedal can even do dare I say metalcore sounds when stacked right. I found the green stacking/voice sounds good. Ur the red stacking voice does not. With both effects stacked on the green voice this pedal is comparable to my Rev G3 pedal Overall I am very happy. I can boost my peavey 5150 head with it just like a tube screamer and I can also just use it as a broad range of distortion for my fender hot rod deluxe. For the price I’m giving it a 5/5. If it was $200 I would start lowering its rating but given the JHS sweet tea does something very similar but costs $315 (with more features granted) this is a very impressive pedal ... show more

  • A bear…but missing a tooth?
The media could not be loaded. First off, it’s a very good pedal. The distortion and overdrive are both solid, and the fact you get both in a signal-switchable box adds to the appeal. However, as opposed to Caline’s Andes, the distortion side and the OD side tend not to gel very easily. Admittedly, this almost undoubtedly has a lot to do with your playing style, guitar, amp, etc., but with both a 70s lawsuit LP and original stock Squier ’51, the two halves were never quite syncing in a way that would lead one to imagine the beast depicted on the enclosure. Again, individually, there’s a lot going on. The distortion is, in a word, searing, providing plenty of heat. The overdrive is ample. As such, I have no complaints, with both sides providing very musical options. Dual Trebles and LoMid knob further provide good tone shaping possibilities…but I really wanted to combine the effects to arrive at something truly menacing. But ultimately it’s a minor complaint. The Voice control flips the signal, offering even more tone options: boosting an already distorted tone is post-rock heaven. Check the video for sounds: a single coil through the Brutus, going into a DAW. Typically, I’d demo things without added processing, but since I’m knee-deep in a serious shoegaze period, you’ll have to grant me some reverb compliments on my favorite plug-in. By the way, I use these same loops in my review of the Caline Andes so you can load two windows and do some A/B testing. Again, not my norm to recycle loops, but since both Calines contain OD sections, I figured it made sense. In the end, I’m glad I have the Brutus. The distortion at mid-drive is terrific. But I’ll keep looking for the magic combo of settings that deliver a truly ursine experience. ... show more
