This was the 5th cadence reel I have bought. I now have two vigors and three essence reels in left and right hand retrieve and different ratios. Out of the box they a very good, but not quite as refined as an SLX. Meaning the bearings on the cadence reels have to be worked in a little bit to loosen up. On all my reels I will disassemble and add my own oil. Once I did this I had a $40+ reel that compares to the mid level shimanos. All of these come with carbon fiber washers out of the box and are very smooth. The cast control is perfect and adjusts just as well as any other reel I have had and comes with the bonus of not having to remove anything and flip magnets. If there is a downside compared to what some folks feel is important, it’s the composite material body. For me, this is more of an upsell feature than a critical feature for my fishing. I use the Cadence vigor reel for frogging and punching and have zero issues with flex or roll of the reel. Is there a chance that a composite body reel could twist and crack, I’d say about a snowballs chance if the reel is seated properly and secure. Even if these are used for steelhead and smaller salmon I would have no problem using them for side drifting, trolling plugs, or back bouncing. Bottom line, my opinion is these are better than the JDM shimano reels like the bass rise or bass one xt out of the box. After I remove the spool and add the oil I like and break those bearings in, it’s just as good as an SLX at 1/3 the price. If you want to try baitcasting then these are your reels because it won’t break the bank and you will not need to upgrade. Amazing value and very lightweight.I target reds, sea-trouts and flounders and amazingly performed very well with soft and hardbaits. Casting is amazing right out of the box. I did have a slight bird nest against the wind but adjusted the brakes. Would have given 5 stars but the the reel did develop a low growl at mid cast. Just got this reel and it is amazing can't believe how well made this reel is for the price of it. I love especially the drag on this real easy to use for those with big hands/fingers. Took it out last weekend for crappie fishing hook onto didn't know at the time to a monster 30 to 40 plus lbs. grass carp thought for sure my 6lbs. mono-line will break. Playing around with the drag and fighting the fish I was able to get it on land in under 10 minutes before my line break. Customer service is even better I wanted to order an extra spool for lining up to fish for bigger fish on Amazon it say the delivery date is between 21 OCT to 02 NOV so I email customer service to ask. I got an email respond the next morning saying that the date on Amazon is not correct when they received the order they ship out right away and should be receiving my product within 4 to 5 days. Mr. Murphy the customer that I was communicating with even told me to order it on Amazon and he will look out for my order to get it process right away. There's even more of that I find out from Cadence portion of the money that I spent buying their product is going to help put a combos rod/reel into the hands of the next generation through on of their charity partners. It was an easy decision to buy the Cadence reel for me cause the product is well made and for the price and even better was their customer services. When it comes to baitcasters, usually I stick with brands I know like Lew's. This honestly casts better than my Lew's. And it's lighter. It did take a little time and several bad backlashes to get it adjusted, but once I got it dialed in, it didn't backlash at all. It casts far. The drag and crank power are good. The grips on the crank are nice. The paint job is pretty. Not very thrilled about all the plastic parts, but that's what you get unless you wanna throw down $150 for a swedish made Abu Garcia C series. I feel like it will hold up well if I take care of it. Will update the review if the durability is a problem. Overall, thrilled with this reel, can't beat the price, and some of the funds go toward getting a kid fishing equipment, so it's a win win. I bought this reel last year bit never had the opportunity to use it. Took it to the Keys this weekend and the internals failed. Edited: I think I figured out how it broke and believe it is reparable.

Out of all my fishing reel combos, this reel is about the lightest. I do have smoother operating reels, but they are heavier. I matched this reel up with a $9.00 Berkeley Lightning Rod from good 'ol Wal-Mart (on-sale). I also use 15lb Power Pro braid with this combo. I've been able to catch some pretty nice Peacock and Largemouth Bass using this setup. Overall, a good reel for the money. Update 3/22: I had some issues with the reel, specifically the drag. I stopped using it because my line snapped on me 3 times going after some big largemouth. After going back and reading some other reviews, and visiting the Cadence website, I decided to contact their customer service over the issue I experienced. Cadence offers a year warranty on the products that they sell. Within a week I received a replacement, and I could not be more happier with the reel! All I can say is that I believe that Cadence stands behind what they sell. I would rather get this type of service from a smaller company, than to be left disappointed with some of the other larger fishing outfitters out there. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find better service and quality! ... show more
