  • Extremely Well Made Reel And Outstanding Value
I think this may well be the best size 1000 spinning reel I own and I have several to compare it with. They sent the retail package wrapped in plastic inside a heavy brown cardboard box and gave the reel plenty of protection for shipping without damage. That is something you don't see much in sub $200 reels. It's obvious that Cadence really cares about making sure you get an undamaged reel. I have not fished it yet but I have so many spinning reels I don't have to fish it to judge quality. This reel has unsurpassed quality for the price. I like the magnesium frame over plastic as many use and it reels very smooth and TOTALLY silent. I will most certainly be buying a 2000 size in the near future but wanted the 1000 size first as about 90% of my freshwater fishing is done with light tackle. It just makes catching fish more fun. I don't think any manufacturer can top the quality of these reels for under $150. I highly recommend this reel and of course I will buy more. I do wish they made it in a smaller 500 size though. UPDATE 04/08/18: I received the 2000 size model today and put line on both. Line lay is perfectly level on both. Even line lay is essential to a good casting spinning reel. There isn't much that affects the cast-ability of a spinning reel. They simply need a good spool design , even line lay and a highly polished spool lip. Of course you need the optimum diameter line for the given reel and matched to the right rod. These reels have it all correct and will without any question cast very well with the correct line size and a properly paired rod. I will have to invest in a couple of their higher end models in the future although the CS8 is about as smooth as it gets. One thing to note is after looking at the Cadence rods I am positive I will NOT be buying one. The reason for me is simple. They have cork handles. Cork may be considered "traditional" and preferred by many but what is "traditional" about a modern graphite rod in the first place. EVA is a much better choice for rod handles. It's washable and stays looking new for many years. Lately I have noticed a lot of manufacturers using cork on the handle knobs on some high end reels. I guess there must be a market for it but it gets dirty easy and breaks apart faster than plastic, rubber or EVA. You can clean cork but most any chemical that will really make it look as new will also break down cork. Wake up folks there are far better materials today to use for rod handles and reel handle knobs than cork. It's also NOT 1920 so why use an inferior outdated material from that era? I think it's time to move on to a more practical and superior material than cork. To each his own and many will disagree but cork on any fishing equipment is a total deal breaker for me PERIOD. Update: I did buy it in the 2000 size as well. Still hoping to see these reels in a true Ultralite size like a size 500. A reel this good at this price in a true Ultralite size would be a must have item for me and I expect a lot of your Cadence customers would want one as well. ... show more

  • Lightweight and smooth
Cadence CS8 3000 First, I am an avid fisherman. I'm usually out in the bays and bayous in Northwest Florida several times a week. I fish for Speckled Trout, Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia etc. My gear includes several Shimano Stradic reels, Diawa BG and Procaster, and the Cadence CS7. Most are paired with St. Croix, Diawa or Cadence Rods. When this reel arrived, the reel box was packaged inside another box which was inside a padded envelope. The previous Cadence reels I've ordered came in another box instead of the padded envelope. I'm not complaining about this as nothing was damaged, just an observation. Now to the reel itself. This reel is very lightweight, something I noticed as soon as I pulled it from the box. I really like what Cadence has done with the handle on their reels, the washers stay in place if you change the handle from left to right, nothing to get lost. I paired this reel with my Cadence CR7 7' Medium Heavy Fast rod and 20lb Diawa J Braid line. The specks state the reel will hold 165 yards of 20lb braid, and I can say this is the first reel I've bought that actually held 165 yards. This set-up is lighter than any of my other 3000 series sets. I believe its lighter than my Stradic 2500 reels. On the water it performed flawlessly. Even as light as it was, I noticed no flex in the Magnesium frame regardless what I hooked into. The 10 bearing system is smooth, the smoothest reel I've purchased. I spent an entire day casting lures hooking Speckled Trout and Red drum without any problems. The drag on this reel is great, quick and easy to adjust and worked just as I wanted it to. I can't speak for longevity at this point as I've only had the reel a week. My CS7 reels have held up all spring to all kinds of abuse, but they have aluminum frames which are more corrosion resistant than the magnesium. Although I fish primarily saltwater, I always wash my equipment when I get home which has always helped my equipment last many years. This is a great reel, very light, strong and smooth. It has earned a permanent place on my boat , replacing a reel that costs three times as much! Tight Lines! ... show more

  • Super product, shipped wrong one
So first off i ordered the CS6 4000. Paid for a CS6 4000, order says that reel was shipped. I opened the box, and it is a CS6 3000. I debated returning it since i don’t really need the 4000, it was just $2 more so i ordered it. The reel was going on a light-medium rod so i don’t really need the larger reel. I just wanted it because why not. It seemed a lot of pain and frustration to box it back up, go through the return process that is going to take i don’t know how long to get the 4000 and get my $2. So, i decided to keep it. The reel is incredibly smooth. The aluminum design is solid, and i am casting further than my previous budget reel. The drag is sensitive to adjustment, allowing for a lot of adjustment to really set it where you want it. Much more enjoyable to work with, has an overall superior feel. Overall I love it - just wish it was what i ordered. ... show more

  • Excellent value for the money.
This is my second Cadence reel. I was excited to get the CS8 and it did not disappoint. I spooled it with 20 lb braid and a flouro leader, then matched it up with medium powered rod to try it out. A weightless worm was tossed about 50 yards with little effort. The spool on these reels are machined with a beveled lip to decrease resistance on the cast, and they work very well. The casting action is flawless and retrieval is smooth. The drag was responsive, and easy to adjust on the fly when catching a bass worthy of it. Compared to the Helios I have, the CS8 is only slightly heavier in weight, having a magnesium frame instead of carbon fiber, but just as comfortable. It also has one more bearing than the Helios and a better price point for similar quality. Casting ability is also similar if not better on the CS8. A couple more pluses are the EVA knob, the excellent packaging, a 3 year warranty, a 90 day 100% refund policy and the fact that the company has a mission to get our youth to fish and gives a fishing combo to charity for every $50 spent. How many companies do that? ... show more

  • I'm impressed!
I go fishing for hickory and american shad in the spring during their spawning run (lasts about 6 - 8 weeks). This isn't really fishing, this is catching! Hickory shad average about 1.5 pounds and routinely jump 4 feet out of the water. American shad can go 12 pounds but mine average about 7, these guys mostly stay in the water and slug it out. Where I go, in a good morning, say 4 or 5 hours worth, it's not uncommon to catch 40 or so hickories and maybe a couple of american shad. To keep it all sporting and interesting I use 4lb test and "light" rods and reels. I don't buy the most expensive reels, but I'm not talking junk here either, my typical $100 reel will generally start to break down after about about 3 or 4 seasons. Sometimes, you can still order a few parts and extend their lives, often it's just easier to replace them. Cheaper reels would probably last just as long, but their inconsistent drags really suck the joy out of it for me. I always take at least 2 rods to the river and have one or two more extras in the truck - so the wear and tear is spread out across multiple rigs. Almost all of my other fishing is saltwater, so these reels rarely get used for anything else. I don't go EVERY day, but I only live a few miles from the river so I generally manage 3 or 4 trips a week. This year I purchased a pair of CS6s to replace some of my failing tackle and used them exclusively. I'm pleased to say they really did great! The drags are smooth and consistent, no fading or stuttering causing lost fish and / or lost terminal tackle. The reels are "tight", crank smoothly, the whole package is reasonably light weight, in short - for the price I'm duly impressed! And, I can't say I noticed any appreciable wear on them either. Time will tell, if they grenade half way through next season, I'll update this review. ... show more

  • Awesome Reel at An Excellent Price
I Absolutely love this reel. This is my second Cadence CS8. I purchased a CS 8 1000 and It had manufacturing issues. I believe it was a return from another customer. I sent it back. The owner of the company contacted me and asked what was wrong. I told him and he sent me a replacement. I have fished with that reel on my St Croix trout series rod for 4 months now. It is a match made in heaven. The reel Is beautiful, it looks like a work of art. It fits the rod mounts perfectly. The mounting bracket Is perfectly tapered. The state of the art materials in this reel are so much better than reels costing 100 dollars or more, The reels operate flawlessly, The drag is very adjustable and reel did not falter on fish larger than this reel was designed for. Big shout out to JOHN WEISS and CADENCE. My next purchase will be CS8 2500 ... show more

  • Starts out good then goes VERY BAD
I am a rod builder have been for over 30 years. I am always looking for reasonably priced dependable reels. Thought I found them in Cadence. NOPE. I bought 13 different models from the top CS10 to the CS5 all Spinning. They all either began to grind on retrieve or stick in spots so bad the pressure to continue reeling was ridiculous. Only used in freshwater and taken very good care of. Having so many rods and reels I don't even have that many hours on them. I can't recommend these to my customers any more they are having similar issues with the reels and the horrible customer service. Very sad as I bought into their whole model as a company. You would think customer service it essential within that model - It is not. ... show more
