Spent a month shopping around for the best solution to upgrade our Joola Tetra conversion top. We had the Tetra for nearly a year and it held up well, but it's a 4 piece top, which is foldable with hinges and seams. Over time the seams in the center of the Tetra top became increasingly annoying, requiring to tighten the hinges now and then. So, we decided to upgrade. As for this new Butterfly, top I am not really pleased with it, and if it wasn't so heavy and already unpacked and moved to our basement, I would return it and buy another Joola. So, here's my review: PROS: - Arrived without shipping damage. Although the box had some inevitable damage to the corners, there was no shipping damage to the conversion top. - Heavy, thick play surface, as expected. Nice bounce. - Overall quality build, structurally. - The Butterfly clip net is quite nice. Easy to setup and has adjustment to tension. CONS: - Paint/finish is bad. SEE PHOTOS. Part of the text BUTTERLY on the side is smeared/bleeding. It's like it was still wet when they put in the box. Part of one half section of the top (near the seam between the two halves) is darker blue color than the rest. Various spots where there are specs of debris clearly underneath the paint, causing a small chunk spot on the surface. Like if you painted a wall in your house and a small flake of old paint got loose and stuck in the fresh paint. White lines are not clean on the edges. Like a bad masking tape job. Small spots of white paint splatter on apron and here and there on the blue surface. The most annoying finish blemish is what looks to be a scratch or gouge maybe an inch long, revealing black underneath, but I think it was simply some debris that was on the surface when painted. And after painting, they scraped off the painted debris and then tried to make it less noticeable by sanding it down or rubbing it with something. There are rub marks on and around this blemish. I believe this is in the 2nd photo. Overall, just a bad paint job from a factory. If I had painted it myself, I would think I did a great job. But for a new factory made product, not good. - FULL FOAMING BACKING IS NOT 100% FULL FOAM BACKING. It's only like 99.5%. THE BRACKETS AND SCREWHEADS FOR THE APRON ARE NOT FOAM COVERED. We are using this on a pool table, standard 8' table with what I would consider to be standard rails. It's a relatively expensive oak table. And preventing damage to the rails is very important to us. Once the conversion top is on the pool table, there is maybe 2 inches of space between the pool table rails and inside of apron. So, when you lay the conversion top on the pool table, perfectly centered, sure there are no issues. Every area resting on the rails is foam covered. However, the L brackets that attach the apron to the bottom of the conversion top are NOT foam covered. The screw heads protrude out further than the foam backing. The bracket is about 1" long. And I have maybe 2" between the inside of the apron and my oak rails. So, when the top is perfectly centered on pool table, there is about 1" of space between my pool table rails and the exposed metal apron brackets. IF THE TOP SLIDES MORE THAN AN INCH, the bracket and screw heads will start gouging into my rails. NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I am going to resolve this issue myself by attempting to glue some pieces of foam, say 1.5" wide, where the bottom surface and apron meet. Preventing the top from sliding to the point where the bracket will touch my rails. Frankly, this should have been done as part of the design. Joola makes a full foam backed two piece conversion top, without apron, for a lower price. I bought the butterfly because my impression was that Butterfly was better quality, and I liked the idea of the apron, thinking it would result in a more solid and consistently flat surface. If I had know that the apron brackets were exposed, I would have bought the less expensive Joola top. The Joola Tetra surface finish is much better, but I think it's a laminate and not painted. Not sure which is better, but I can tell you that after using the Tetra for nearly a year, the surface finish is still better than the new Butterfly out of the box. ... show more

I bought this because it was the only one that had full foam backing and could fit on my 8 1/2 ft table. One was the corners was damaged when opening but it was a spot where the clip for the net goes so I let it slide. My major complaint is the quality of the finish. I sat a dry bottle on it while moving things around and it left a mark. Then there are marks just from where you set the paddles down on the table. This thing would probably scratch if you were to blow on it. Very disappointing. ... show more

This conversion top by Butterfly sold by Bowmar sports is extremely well made. It is very sturdy and the bounce is as good as my $1,800 dollar foldable professional table. Installs very easy and the customer service was excellent from Bowmar sports. From what I understand, Bowmar sports is the official distributor for Butterfly tables in the USA. I ordered from them to insure I got a genuine butterfly table as it is generally known as the best table in regards to quality. I highly recommend this table! ... show more

    • Excellent quality - the perfect conversion top

We love this ping ping conversion table. Compared to the old one we are replacing, it is night and day. Our old table was also the higher quality 19mm thick (you won’t want thinner), but the metal supports found on the Butterfly (on all four sides) will prevent this top from eventually warping and that is a huge plus. MOST IMPRESSIVE is the padding underneath. Pre-installed and covers the ENTIRE back of the table. Our old top had excellent pads, but it took forever to perfect placement so that the top would not hurt our pool table. When our older kids would take it off and on, they would never put it perfectly back in place (I mean who would - give yourself a week and you’d be throwing it back up there, too). No worries with that AT ALL given the full pad. We did not have any issues with paint peeling as we unwrapped the product, as other reviewers have suggested. Paddles have already rubbed the surface during play and we have had no scratches or marks at all. Quality is fantastic for recreational use. If you are buying this for your family, you will not be disappointed and other websites are at least $100 more. We are not pro ping pong players but unlike a few comments, the net was perfect. Tension can be adjusted, unlike most others. Plays evenly. VERY HEAVY so pay the $19.99 to Amazon for placement delivery. So worth it and wish we had done it!! Thought I would need PT after dragging one half to our basement with another adult. You will need two teens or adults to lift these halves on and off - your ten year olds will not be doing it. Each piece probably weighs close to 75 pounds. However, that is what makes it such high quality and so durable. I don’t normally write reviews, but I was so impressed with this conversion top. We ordered the blue and the color was perfect. For $335, the price cannot be beat. We did have one small plastic piece underneath where the net attaches that we had to superglue, as it was coming off a bit. No issues and could not be seen. One of the pink plastic pieces on the corner was cracked, but after calling mfr, they sent me two more for free. Wasn’t a deal breaker anyway and would not impact play. I just didn’t want to look at it if it wasn’t perfect. Look no further for the perfect ping pong conversion top. This is it. ... show more

Product was delivered into room but not sure why I paid for setup. They just put the box in the room and left . There was no unpacking of the item especially since the box was so damaged . But to the fine packing of the table in the box there was very minimal damage to the table . Not worth my time to send it back . The net is professional grade and the table is a great color of blue . Extremely well built. Love the pad that’s permanently installed on bottom side of table. Which was one of the main selling points for me. Easy install but very heavy two pieces. Best to have two people just takes a few minutes. Not a tabletop you want to be putting on and taking off all the time. Highly recommend this tabletop! Got the run around with the delivery.
