Description

Knowing how fast a player pitches or runs can instantly influence a coaching decision. Enter the Bushnell Velocity speed gun, which tells you the speed of an object within plus-or-minus 1 mile per hour. The Bushnell Velocity is outfitted with digital signal processing technology, which can measure the speed of a baseball from up to 90 feet, or a moving vehicle from as far as 1,500 feet. As a result, it's a breeze to take a player's 40 time or measure the speed of a tennis serve. The Velocity is also a breeze to use, with a point-and-shoot pistol grip that displays the fastest speed timed once the trigger is released. The Bushnell Velocity radar gun offers easy point-and- shoot operation that can be used for tracking everything from race cars to pitching speeds. A large LCD display makes it easy to read the speed. Aim the Velocity at the target and depress the trigger. As a quick reference to accuracy, remember to keep your target’s direction of travel in a direct line with you and not perpendicular to you Specifications:Baseball/softball/tennis range: 10 to 110 mph (90 feet away) Auto racing range: 10 to 200 mph (1,500 feet away) Accuracy: +/- 1 mph Dimensions: 4.3 by 8.4 by 6 inches (W x H x D) Weight: 19 ozs Warranty: 2 years Operating Tips:To ensure accurate speed readings, be sure to keep your target's direction of travel in a direct line with the speed gun, and not perpendicular. The Velocity Speed Gun will measure the relative speed of a target as it moves towards or away from the Speed Gun. If the target is in a direct line, the measured speed will be accurate within +/- 1 mph.If you move either right or left of the target, the displayed speed readings will become progressively less accurate, with the indicated speed decreasing as you move off this centerline. This happens due to the "Cosine Effect", common to all Doppler based radar devices.Be sure to use only fresh, alkaline "C" batteries in the Velocity Speed Gun, both inserted positive (tip) end first, with the negative end of each battery facing you (towards the battery cover).

My husband absolutely loves this speed gun. He was convinced that people were speeding up and down our residential street. Well, we've only clocked one car travelling over the speed limit, much to his dismay, but he still enjoys using it.

  • Had to get a new toy to play with..
Recently picked up an old X-band police radar gun and got interested in how they worked. I found this one, price was right and it is a different band ( K, I believe ). First thing I did, was disassemble it, sure enough, it has an actual radar horn antenna. Yes, I am aware the warranty is void, but I don't care. The unit still works and now I know what's inside it. Seemed to be of decent quality construction, the molding went back together without much fuss. I've used it to track cars and other objects, not baseballs yet. So far, I'm happy with it. ... show more

  • Beginner Gun
Understand what this gun is before you purchase it. If you're looking for a radar that you can sit 30 rows up at a showcase and clock accurate numbers with, this is NOT your gun. This is not a gun for a pro scout, or someone who requires chronograph level accuracy. That being said, for 90 dollars, it gets the job done. As an owner of both this and a Pocket Radar Ball Coach, I can confirm that this gun is +/- 3mph with the Pocket Radar, under the condition that it is aimed precisely. The range is short, but if you can stand directly behind a pitcher, angling slightly downhill on the ball's plane, you will get an accurate reading much of the time. When you miss, you'll know as the reading will be well off. Hitting wise is where you will encounter the most issues. If you're trying to measure ball exit speed of a tee, you need to get on a knee, and aim the gun slightly up, so that the gun will be in line with where the ball will be hit. The battery lasts a long time, and there is no interface to learn, just point and pull the trigger. The gun is sturdy, and doesn't feel like you'll break it if you hold it wrong. All in all it's an excellent starting gun, and if you're buying this for your travel team, personal use, or just for fun, it will get the job done. ... show more

  • Works very well for me
I have checked it several times and it is very accurate for measuring the speed of the vehicles on the street in front of my house. It works whether a vehicle is going away or coming toward you. It works through the windshield of a vehicle so you can sit in your car and take readings. I have had it about a month and it is very useful. I consider it a good deal for the price. ... show more

  • Excellent!
I have to say that I'm VERY pleased with this product. I believe if you follow the directions exactly and make sure you are directly in line with the throw, you will be within 1-2 mph +/-. The readings are pretty consistent and I rarely get errors. Even my 8 year old can use it and he has a great time. I think unless you are a pro scout or have a kid that is college level or higher, you have no reason to spend more money than this product. It should meet the needs of 95% of customers. Definitely a good buy, ... show more

  • Simple, yet ENDLESS uses!!
Applicable to anything you want to use it for. I just happen to use to to twart potential speeders going through my neighborhood. Feel so easy in your hand, point and shoot like a nerf gun. With the local Law Enforcement acknowledging me using it to radar passing motorists and display their ridiculous speeders passing by on youtube, they told me I'm breaking no laws in what Im doing and actually aid in helping me patrol more. Fun Uses: -Speed Guess Drinking Game (use your own rules) -Set New Self PB run speed -Fastball Pitching -Trains, Cars, boats, jet ski -Drag Races -Race Animals -RC car speed #RadarDad ... show more

  • Not Accurate for Baseballs -- Add 5-8 mph to Recorded Speed
The reviews that say this gun clocks baseballs anywhere from 5-8 mph slower than actual velocity are correct. I have a high school player who was clocked with professional equipment at college prospect camps. This gun consistently records him AT LEAST ~5 mph slower, and often much more than that. The Bushnell gun can still be useful to get a general sense of how hard a pitcher throws and whether he's making progress. But you CANNOT use it to determine official velocity for recruiting purposes. It biases way too low for that. If I'm standing about halfway between the mound and the plate, I add 8 mph to recorded speed to get a general idea of a HS pitcher's velocity. ... show more

  • Our's works perfect!
Bought last week for my son's 14th birthday. I was worried due to reviews. At grandma's house we only had bean bags so we got familiar with the instrument and got 31mph with the bags thrown toward the gun so I was relieved. In the car going home, we gunned several overpasses as we drove under them on the freeway. The calibration was perfectly in synch with the digital speedometer on the 2017 Ford Edge, no over or under, even if gunned only from the last 60 feet! Sweet! By the way no need to stick it out the window it works through the windshield. When we got home we went to the side yard bullpen and got seemingly accurate readings with the gun over the pitcher's shoulder and the ball being thrown away from gun. I am totally satisfied, the build is very solid, my only complaint is I would appreciate a safety strap loop or a hole. There can always be defects, but I wonder if some bad reviews are user error, as in didn't bother to read the manual. You don't shoot at the target by pulling and releasing the trigger quickly. You HOLD the trigger during travel or flight, then release. Can't wait to sit in the stands and pretend I'm a scout. Needs two C batteries. Play ball! ... show more
