Top Amazon Reviews

  • It's a hundred bucks good people
Color: Black
Writing reviews is not my play, which is kinda funny since I do read them and they do influence my decisions...but I digress. In my humble opinion, for a hundred bucks, it's fantastic. I took a chance on simply the manufacturer. Distance measurement and focus is kinda what they do, going back to the early days of binoculars and their founding. Trust in this history was the ultimate deciding factor after reading some of the not so great reviews. I suppose value is always key, and in all due respect, maybe others expect more for their hard earned 100 bucks...err expecting the features of a unit retailing 2-3 times the Phantom street value yet all bundled up neatly into a $100 price point. This just isn't gonna happen. That being said...my rebuttals on the negative points found in other not so great reviews. 1. No, the magnet does not possess superpowers, but it is also not crappy. I use without issue both with the clip on a side pocket on my trousers and directly onto the cart inner frame. Yes, it does require the player to be mindful of the potential errant dislodging but I cannot support other review claims of failure. The magnet is a dope idea and works. 2. It's made of plastic. Yes, it is made of plastic. Everything is kinda made of plastic, especially at this retail price point. No issue. 3. Again, the magnet. OK. So you're on cart path only days. The magnet, although I haven't experienced such dislodging, isn't holding to your clip. Fasten to the inner cart frame, take the unit to your ball position, get your yardage, pull your club. Fasten the unit back onto the inner cart frame. I don't see the issue. 4. No, it doesn't provide pin placements. Again, with all do respect, maybe your game requires perfect yardages. If so, I'd question your critical thought process on how a unit for $100 is gonna meet your expectation. The unit does provide beyond reasonable accurate distance to front - middle - back. I would also hope we could all agree that when using the scoring clubs, you'd be in a position to more than not get a visual on the pin placement. Is it front, middle, or back? 5. The Phone App sucks. I'm at a loss here. I think the App is great. The entire hole is covered. It's touch sensitive to whatever strategic landing spot you desire providing yardage. All hazards are represented. It updates to your location on the hole. All good in my book. 6. No, it doesn't account for slopes. It's a hundred bucks good people. In all fairness, if your home course greatly exceeds the US 113 standard dificulty rate, this might not be the best fit product for your game. You are gonna have to pony up. This is a handy little device. The read out is large and clean. It's super easy to track shot distantance by club. Markers to hazards are clean. No, they don't include the cover of hazards but for a hundred bucks, I'll take the front hazard info and plan accordingly. I'm a scrappy 7 all day. I shaved down to 2 with this piece. I believe it's for the purist. Front - Middle - Back. Go get it. I did an A/B test against my mates $500 laser unit. It was within 2 yards. That's reasonable in my opinion of value for a hundred bucks. Our game requires effort. Personally, putting cut down my scoring average. This device allows more opportunity for said putting opportunities because of reliable FMB yardages. Maybe I don't expect enough for $100. Maybe the unit should have magnetic superpower for $100. Maybe we should live in a place where all features (slope - pin placement - wind accounts) should be available to all of us for $100. I dont' know of this world. This device is well valued in my opinion, offering solid and reliable data for a hundred bucks. And yes, I've had 2 glasses of wine...ok, maybe 3. I hope this brings benefit. Be well. ... show more

  • Great for 2 weeks when it worked. Amazon return policy was key, waiting for new one now as exchange
Color: Black
I had always been looking at the Garmin watch units and didn't like the fact that they had a proprietary charging cable. After golfing with two buddies that had GPS units, I asked what they used. One used a Bushnell watch and the other used this unit. His comment about the Bushnell Phantom was that the numbers are super huge on the display compared to most other units. When I looked at it and saw it used the standard micro USB plug to charge, I was sold. He put it in the cupholder on his cart and said that if I relied on the magnet, it would come off with any bumpy ride. Since I walk, he told me not to rely on the magnet for my cart but to get one of the Jonovo (sp?) cases. I got the unit and the case and it worked well for a couple of rounds. There were some hiccups, can't be used as GPS when charging, and stays on after charging so you need to remember to turn it off. all that was pretty minor. It has a large readout for distance to middle and front/back of green, an easy shot distance measuring function to set where you hit from and look at when you get to your ball which helps you decide what clubs get what distance. Also has distances to hazards such as water, bunkers, etc and carry distance to get over water hazards using initials to describe the hazards, not hard to remember \. Bushnell has a free app that registers with the device serial number which gives a good flyover of the hole if you're new to the course. this all sounds pretty good, why did I give it only 4 stars? well, after about a week of use on three rounds, when I went to unclip the case from my cart before putting my clubs in my car, I noticed it was on it was on the initial power on screen, even though I had turned it off at the 18th green. Strangely, it was not responsive to any button, even trying to reset it by holding the down button on the left and the power button on top as suggested by Bushnell. Thankfully I had it for only a couple of weeks and it was still in the Amazon return window. Since I got it on a black friday special, I didn't want to have to return it and have to buy a new one for 50% more but , Amazon offered the option to get a direct replacement. so I took that. hopefully my first unit wasn't the harbinger of poor quality control. Anyway, while it works, it was great for me. Pros: *Good accuracy *Large display, *easy to navigate to different functions *standard micro USB charging connection *iPhone app is a nice benefit. I haven't used it in the field as i was at a course I knew well *Amazon return policy is top notch! Cons *needs a 3rd party option of case to not lose. It would be nice if there was some sort of ring or something to firmly attach a lanyard or other method to secure other than the magnet *stopped responding to the buttons after < 2 weeks use leads to questionable quality control ... show more
