  • Alot of Watch for the money
The hardest decision to make about this watch is do you want an all black watch with one leather band, brushed stainless with canvas band and nylon band, or brushed stainless with a stainless steel bracelet. Since I lacked a black metal watch that was why I chose this particular version. The band is soft leather and somewhat comfortable, however I may switch it out with a NATO strap in the future. It looks good, however it may have been nice to have the metal buckle and loops to be a bit thicker, however it is a perfect match for the watch so I won't be too critical. The watch itself is very nice, the dials are all very readable, and adds to the overall impression of purposefulness. The machining and finish are on par with watches costing many times more. The dial has the same precise look as well, and the raised crystal with frosted edges adds to the effect. The stem clicks into position with just enough friction to give it a feel of precision, and it just gets better. The pushers, obviously were designed for use with gloves, and both click with almost the same force. Worth mentioning, the pushers click even better than Tag Heuer chronographs, sorry Tag. The second hand almost sweeps, and gives the illusion of a mechanical or automatic chronometer. Great job Bulova! Another feature I like is the luminous dial. It glows blue. It is on par with Rolex chromalight lume, perhaps not quite as bright. I am not sure if it will glow as long as chromalight, but it is easily read in the dark. Bulova claims 10 second per year accuracy with its 262 Hertz quartz movement. I cannot attest to this yet, but the hands line up with the markings perfectly. I have absolutely no reason to doubt Bulova's claim. By the way, Rolex claims 2 second per day accuracy. Rolex however is a certified chronometer, meaning they have gone through exhaustive testing by a third party (Omega too). The box the watch came in was a nice touch, the presentation box is well made and comparable to the bakelite boxes that Brietlings come in. How does it compare with the Omega Speedmaster Professional (Omega Moonwatch)? I don't really know. I have an Omega, however it is a Seamaster, not a Speedmaster. I read reviews before I bought, and read some negative reviews. One complaint was of rattling pushers, I found this to be not true, at least with mine. Also a couple of complaints of the chronograph hands not lining up, my advice, read the instructions before starting the watch and setting it, yes it is a simple device, but it is also a complex electro mechanical device, so take five minutes to open the book. Make no mistake, you are not getting an Omega, Rolex Tag or Brietling, however you.are getting a very good wristwatch worthy of a high end collection. In short, I really like this watch. Even though it is not an Omega Moon watch I like this one because it feels like a watch costing much, much more, and has a bit of a maverick mystique about it tying in with the history of the Apollo missions. Worth mentioning, I have had this wristwatch for 10 weeks now, and it has not lost nor gained one second when compared the NIST time website. ... show more

  • A subdued yet powerful daily driver
A tremendous watch. I got another version of the Lunar Pilot Chronograph a couple years ago, which is also terrific. But that version, the 45 mm with the polished steel case and black nylon strap, played big on the wrist. This one has a more subdued look, albeit in quite large form. Also 45 mm in diameter, the dark side chronograph is less showy, but strong. And the black leather strap is very comfortable. At times I can forget it’s there. Until I look at it. It’s all black, of course, which makes the white hands and markers quite readable. Somewhat to my surprise, this watch is a daily driver — understated but strong — in a way that the original was not. ... show more

  • If Darth Vadar wore a watch....Or Always bet on Black! If Darth Vadar wore a watch....Or Always bet on Black!
If Darth Vadar wore a watch, he would wear this one. Black ion plated watch seems to have good plating on the watch but one of the keeps on the strap began to show wear after the first day of wearing (watch contacting my desk when typing) I was disappointed in the strap. Looks good, feels good but the ion plating on the keepers is suspect. As for the watch itself, very attractive and very legible. The lume could be better but will do as good as most regular watches. Remember, this is a pilot watch, not a diver which tends to have strong lume. I put an aftermarket pvd - black carbon fiber strap from badass watch straps or something. I would have rated this a total 5 star if not for the strap hardware. Truthfully, most people are going to take it on the stock strap anyway. One note about the size. It is a large watch but the black color makes it appear smaller. All in all, it does not feel big or wear big. Edit: on 10/29 I came back to raise it from 4 to 5 stars. Despite a subpar strap, the watch and it's PVD case is excellent. A top watch in my rotation. Edit 9/15/22 - A very accurate watch. Mine is running -2 second every six months. ... show more

  • Small amount of money for a piece of History!
Beautiful! Watch came with stickers and tags in original box and wears well for stated dimensions love the original text and the lack of date complication makes it more symmetrical and more like the original quality fit and finish I’ve tried different natos but haven’t found anything as comfortable as the leather strap the watch comes with my only gripe is the buckle and tang are a bit skimpy but I have a new one on the way all around great value for money for this historical recreation! And for all those leaving nasty reviews for certain sellers product review page isn’t the place for it this is a review for the watch itself not the seller and the seller will never see it so your wasting your time leaving it in this section ... show more

  • Great value watch
Fits great on my 7" wrist. This is the smaller model. Important to note that it doesn't have a date window like the original sized one. The lume is less bright then that of the Casio duro which is already dim. This watch is extremely accurate given it's high frequency quartz. Makes for a nice everyday business casual watch. ... show more

  • Watch, yay! Strap, meh. Watch, yay! Strap, meh.
While the backstory and lore regarding the Bulova Lunar Pilot make this a worthy purchase (or gift) for anyone with a love for space travel and lunar exploration, I contend the most compelling reason to own this watch is what literally makes it tick. Rated at +/- 10 seconds per year, the Bulova Precisionist movement is possibly the most accurate quartz movement available in a consumer product. Owners report accuracy well within the rated outlier, typically within two to three seconds per year. Good luck getting there with a mechanical movement, even a COSC certified one. The rest of the Lunar Pilot is up to the same quality standards as the movement, in my opinion. Indeed, it's a great looking watch, one that photos (including my own) don't do justice. The black, ion-plated steel case and dial give the watch a clean, stealthy look, while raised hour markers and a recessed minute track give the watch depth and dimension. The second hand and chrono sub dials are also recessed and have a subtle concentric circle texture. The sleek wing-style chronograph pushers are less intrusive than normal pistons and impart an elegant, streamlined look. The beefy steel case and screw-down case back give the Lunar Pilot the heft of a mechanical chronograph. This, along with its 45mm case diameter and 13.5mm case thickness make this Bulova somewhat of a behemoth in all dimensions. I am a big man in all dimensions, though, so the watch fits me well. That being said, anyone with a wrist smaller than 7 inches might want to give it a pass. Despite my accolades, the Lunar Pilot is not without a few flaws--none of them 'deal killers' in my opinion. First, while the pushers do have a nice snap to them, they must be pressed quite firmly to register. I've found I have the best luck by hitting pushers at their outer edge with my thumbnail. The upside to this, of course, is that you're highly unlikely to false start or stop the chrono by bending your wrist, a frequent flaw on quartz chronographs I have reviewed in the past. Second, the flat sapphire crystal protrudes from the top of the case by at least a full millimeter. I hope I'm wrong, but I can see myself banging this against a door or my wheelchair and chipping it. On the plus side, I do like that Bulova put the tachymeter markings under the crystal and not outside it. Third, this particular model does not include a date complication. Since it makes for a less-cluttered face, this is not a negative in my opinion, but it might be for you, so be aware. Finally, I must say 'tsk, tsk' to Bulova for endowing such a gorgeous, compelling timepiece with a strap even Vostok would be ashamed of. Seriously, I spent a year and a half as a Vine reviewer and reviewed dozens of cheap quartz watches and straps galore. I can say without hesitation that the included faux-NATO strap is the worst strap I've ever seen and an absolute embarrassment to Bulova's heritage. I spent a full sixteen bucks replacing this travesty with a nylon strap (see photo) that is truly 'orders of magnitude' better. This is the *only* reason I gave the watch four stars instead of five. Final Analysis: If the prospect of owning a quartz doesn't turn your stomach and you don't mind a BIG watch on your wrist, I don't see how you can go wrong with the Bulova Lunar Pilot. Yes, it's on the pricey side for a quartz, but given its heritage and overall build quality--minus the strap, that is--I believe you get what you pay for. The price does tend to fluctuate regularly on this item, so wait for a sale in the $400 USD range before you take the giant leap. ... show more

  • Great Watch! Great Watch!
Finally pulled the trigger on one of these and glad I did. Great fit and finish and it is easy to read for aging eyes. On the large size but if you have a 7 inch wrist ( mine is 7.5" ) or larger it will be no problem. Did not really like the strap that came on it but this watch is made for changing straps and at 20mm the choices are endless. Smooth sweep of the chrono hand is a nice touch and a pleasure to look at. Overall a great watch with a bit of history behind it and a nice addition to my collection. ... show more

  • Wears smaller than the dimensions would have you believe. Wears smaller than the dimensions would have you believe.
I'm going to try and keep this as short as possible, since I only got the watch today and have totally fallen for it. I was a little apprehensive at first, since all the skinny wristed YouTube reviewers all mention how gigantic this watch is and how the more expensive and smaller 43mm version of this watch is better. I'm happy to report that this is not the case at all. Now, this comes with some exceptions. I'm a slim guy, 5'6'' 155lbs and I have a, little as makes no difference, 7 inch wrist. This is the lower limit for a watch like this and have it look right. Once I tried it on, I was blown away with how great this watch looks and feels on my wrist. Since I'm saving up for an Omega Speedmaster, I bought this variant since I wanted an all black "moon" watch anyway and it's the closest thing I'll see to a proper mechanical Moon Watch before I turn 50 anyway. All the concerns I had just disappeared as soon as I saw it on my wrist. It fits great, it's not that thick at all, and it just feels great. The measurements are indeed accurate, but they don't tell the whole story. This watch wears smaller than it's measurements dictate and as long as you meet the minimum criteria for wrist size, if you like it then buy it! My only complaint, which I solved 5 minutes after getting home, and which others have mentioned is the strap it comes with. It's shocking that Bulova would include such rubbish with such a beautiful watch. I actually had to cut it off with a razor blade because I couldn't get my spring bar tool between it and the strap. Once I had it off, and tossed it in the garbage, I replaced it with a Barton black leather and white stitch band I had for my Hamilton Khaki Field King and in no time at all, this watch just melted onto my wrist. I have no idea so far how accurate this is going to remain or how long the battery will last, but I'm wagering that it'll probably be as accurate as my G-Shocks, +/- 10-15 seconds a month like any good quartz. I can't wait to find out. Also, the buttons for the chronometer are a little stiff, but I don't imagine I'll be using it all that much anyway, if only to occasionally watch that seconds hand sweep like an automatic watch's does. In summary, if you like the look, have the wrist for it, and weigh more than 140lbs(65kg), then by all means, get this one or the traditional stainless. You won't be disappointed... ... show more
