Description

Bulova made space history on August 2, 1971--during the Apollo 15 mission, a moon pilot chronograph, customized for lunar conditions by Bulova engineers, was worn on the moon. Now Bulova makes history again with the special edition Lunar Pilot Chronograph. Features stainless steel screw-back case in silver- tone finish and black dial and sapphire glass. From the Precisionist Collection. Featuring Bulova’s proprietary Precisionist accuracy, this advanced chronograph offers 1/1,000-second precision over a twelve-hour time frame, with accuracy to within seconds a year. In stainless steel with curved crystal, multiple-layer black carbon fiber, blue, silver and black dial, chronograph measurement of hours, minutes, seconds, 1/10-seconds, 1/100-seconds and 1/1,000-seconds, yellow continuously sweeping second hand, luminous hour and minute hands, luminous markers, tachymeter, calendar, screw- back case, screw-down crown, double-press fold-over clasp with safety lock, and water resistance to 50 meters.Providing an extraordinary level of timing accuracy, the Bulova Precisionist Chronograph is the only chronograph to combine stopwatch timing to 1/1,000-second with Bulova’s exclusive Precisionist-class torsional resonator movement, proven in laboratory testing to be one of the world’s most accurate.Easy and logical to read, each style features four subdials to display the cumulative time at a single glance, with individual measurements on the combined 1/10- and 1/100-second counter, as well as the hour and minute dials, dual-duty floating second hand, and a distinctive 1/1,000-second track with retrograde indicator.Precisionist TechnologyAt the heart of the watch is the Bulova Precisionist-class torsional resonator movement, custom-engineered to provide accuracy to within seconds a year using a three-prong quartz crystal that creates a vibration frequency of 262.144 kHz, the highest of any watch in the world and far greater than that of a standard quartz crystal. In laboratory testing, the Precisionist-class movement has been shown to be three times more accurate than standard quartz. This proprietary manufactured movement, including the signature floating second hand, also offers a resistance to gravitational error that makes it superior in performance to any mechanical watch on the market.Summary of FeaturesPrecision timing to 1/1,000th of a second12-hour chronograph functionOne of the world’s most accurate movements – accurate to within seconds a yearPrecisionist-class torsional resonator movement proven in laboratory testing to be three times more accurate than standard quartzStainless steel case and braceletSapphire GlassMultiple-layer black carbon fiber, blue and silver dialYellow continuously sweeping second handLuminous hour and minute handsLuminous markersCalendar windowTachymeterScrew-backScrew-down crownWater resistant to 50 metersAbout BulovaIn 1875, Joseph Bulova, a 23-year-old immigrant, set up shop in New York City and a legendary American watch brand was born. Since then, Bulova has stood proudly in the vanguard of timekeeping innovation, committed to the legacy of creativity and excellence established by its founder.A pioneering force in the industry, Bulova transformed how watches were worn and how time was perceived, registering over 50 patents as he and his company built a record of creativity including the first full lines of men’s (1919) and ladies’ (1924) wristwatches, the first clock/radio (1928) and the first electric clock (1931). To ensure the utmost in precision, in 1920, Bulova even established its own observatory – located atop its New York skyscraper. With that same spirit of innovation, following World War II, determined “to serve those who served us,” Bulova established The Bulova School of Watchmaking, using new and unique methods to train disabled veterans for positions in the watch and jewelry industry. Then, in 1960, Bulova changed timekeeping forever with the revolutionary Accutron, the world’s first fully electronic watch. An integral component of U.S. space technology, Accutron timing was used on 46 NASA missions, including Apollo XI, the first lunar landing (1969).Today, as one of the world’s most recognized brands, Bulova has expanded across the globe, with four separate watch brands, Bulova, Bulova AccuSwiss, Bulova Accutron II and Caravelle New York, as well as the award-winning Bulova Clocks. The signature Bulova brand provides an extensive selection of watches for every occasion, crafted of the finest materials, including 315L surgical grade stainless steel, diamonds, mother-of-pearl, carbon fiber, top-quality leather and Bulova’s proprietary Duramic nylon/ceramic composite, and powered by Precisionist-class quartz, automatic and quartz movements. An industry leader in diamond watch styling, with the new Diamond Gallery offering exquisite designs in stainless steel with sapphire crystals, Bulova is also known for Precisionist, featuring Bulova’s proprietary Precisionist-class quartz torsional resonator movement for accuracy to within seconds per year, the Marine Star collection, combining high-performance sports timekeeping with superior durability and water resistance to a minimum of 50 meters, and a comprehensive selection of classic styles, each with a three-year limited warranty. • 5 years later, still my favorite
Bought in November 2018 and it's still crazy accurate (of note, still haven't had to change the battery) and still just as beautiful to look at. I love that it's a sapphire crystal cause it's extra hardy and never scratches despite multiple accidental bumps from daily use. The raise crystal is district for sure, and maybe not be to everyone's taste. It is a large and heavy watch though, so if you've got dainty wrists, this is not your watch. Totally worth the money. ... show more

  • The Story Behind A Watch - Apollo 15
Not sold or marketed but gifted to an Apollo 15 Astronaut to take from Earth to the Moon. Bulova engineered it to NASA specifications for a moon watch. This is why the Apollo 11 Omega Speedmaster dial looks similar to this Apollo 15 Bulova dial. All watches submitted to NASA had to meet lunar conditions and function as a tool watch. To serve as backup timing devices. A unique history behind this updated new edition. How it made it to the moon and back in 1971 and then sold in 2015 for over 1 million dollars. This is the 2016 modern retail version, with features of that prototype. I own the bracelet model, and the quality is high end. The "story" behind this watch is very important to me. Whether it's a Cartier, Vostok, Omega, Seiko, Bulova, Rolex... Some of the most iconic watches have unique stories. A watch that recalls the Apollo 15 mission to the moon. And now an elegant modern version that we can wear on rotation is unique and special. The bracelet model is awesome and fits my 6-7/8" to 7" wrist size just right. Regarding the lugs... The pin placement on this model is closer to the watch case allowing the bracelet links to articulate closer to my wrist and does not look big at all. A G-Shock DW6900 has more wrist presence. Even the legendary "Original" Calibre 2100 has the same wrist presence on my size. And I love how those watches look on my wrist too. The bracelet is beautiful and at 20mm is the right size for bending my wrist and not digging into my skin. The face is extremely easy to read. I think it's due to the length of the Hour and Minute hands and being white on a matte deep black dial. Good moon specifications here NASA, very easy to read. I recommend the bracelet model for your collection and hope my review has helped with your decision. Update - I bought a Di-Modell Rallye strap. Now I have 2 looks. Curved Spring Pins were not needed. ... show more

  • A favorite go-to everyday that looks and works great!
I have a couple of go-to everyday watches - this is one of them. (The others are Citizen blue angels AT8020 and Tissot PRC 200 chrono - yeah, I like chronos.) It's got 'historical cred' - being (sorta) a moon watch. It works great - love the sweep second, looks as good as most mechanicals. But no hassle - no winding - no setting after it stops - just runs and runs. It's like most chronos, lots of stuff and so small details that are a bit hard to read. But the look, feel, and heritage are superb. (Some claim it's too big/flat for a smaller wrist - I have 6.5" and find it to be just fine. Guess I'm not an uptown connoiseur. Sniff.) The bracelet wears well but has no adjustments in the clasp - you have to add/remove links, so I don't bother and don't get as nice a fit as I get with my other watches that have 2-4 adjustment points in the bracelet. • Stunning looking watch.
The watch is great, it fits a little big on my 7 inch wrist but I can pull it off. My forearm is a tad bit skinny too. So it slides a bit on the wrist even with 4 links taken off. This watch is great, it's going to last you a long time especially if you do not use the chronograph pushers often. I've heard the battery life lasting over 3 years on some lunar pilots and I'm sure it can go more with minimal use. ... show more

  • Value prop alternative to Omega Speemaster Pro
I have always loved the omega speedmaster professional (moon watch) and was doing my research on the countless reference numbers when I stumbled upon the Bulova Moon Watch. I was torn between just saving some more and getting the omega speedmaster reduced (about 2k) or just scratch the itch and hope it's goes away with the Bulova. Since I recently made a big purchase and bought a new Rolex datejust II, I figured why not try the Bulova For the $370 I paid (now listed at $350). I have to say, I am pretty pleased with the Bulova Moon Watch. The bracelet is comfortable and butterfly clasp is outstanding. The watch is precise as hell. The monochromatic dial is appealing and I find myself staring at it often when I wear this on the weekends. The raised sapphire crystal is a really cool and unique feature that I look at often as well. There are some cons in my opinion. Firstly, while this watch is not too big for my wrist (7.25 inches in diameter), Bulova should not have gone larger than 42mm. Even on the substantial bracelet, the watch is top heavy.. also, I wish the bracelet tapered. Lastly, I do wish the entire case matched the brushes surfaces as the bracelet. It's not screaming at me when I look down but just a little thing to note. I do not think this watch is suitable for anyone with a wrist smaller than mine or 7" at most. It's a big watch (not like silly invicta big). I do recommend this to someone who is looking for an omega speedmaster alternative. It satisfied my itch and has a really cool story to tell when people mistake it for the omega or just wonder what's on your wrist. For me, it's in the weekend rotation only since I wear a suit and my Rolex to work everyday. I hope this helps some of you on the fence. ... show more
