Description

A guide to building a canoe that contains scale plans, specifications, a tool list, step-by-step instructions, and even a helpful explanation of how to paddle the canoe. All the building operations are clearly illustrated with photos and sketches. The canoe is constructed from a single 4'x16' (or two 4' x 8' sheets) sheet of marine plywood and a few pieces of dimensional lumber and, with epoxy glued seams, is watertight from the moment it hits the water. When completed, the canoe is 15'3" in length with a 31½" beam. Inexpensive to build using ordinary tools and materials, the canoe gives everybody access to boatbuilding and a boat. Read more

  • Looks like a good easy canoe to build
I went to a river fest in cleveland and the local boat building club had one of these canoes on display. They pointed out they used this book and had used it for group builds. I found this book very easy to follow, and recommend it to anyone looking to build a simple canoe.

Six hours a day for three or four days is more true to being realistic! The end result is worth the effort. The boat is nice to use.

  • best option for homebuilder
I got this book to help me teach teenagers cheap entertainment projects form the outdoors. This book has been around years and is still the best self learning system. Any terms that are new to you can be googled, the net is one of the greatest equalizers. This book is the best starting place to draw in a generation brought up in a disposable society. It teaches self confidence, a pioneering spirit, a great sense of accomplishment upon completion. Introducing young to outdoors with this project using this text can change attitudes and lives. From humble mistakes to the grandeur of a completed project has and will build character that cannot be outgrown. Right up there with any philosophy breakthroughs, this simple book can add a lot of enthusiasm in your teen, preteen, scout, or outdoorsman. Recommended with great respect. ... show more

  • Easy boat, friendly book.
Easy read, simple methods, can be built from book (no need to buy other plans). Small book but well written in the how-to style. Bought with several other books, but this may be a great place to start, super simple design.

  • Not Complete
Book was in good user condition but the two layout pages were cut out . Would make it very hard to do a proper layout for cutting the panels .

  • I paddle
This is a great little book about building a great little boat. It is a little out of date though. If I were to build the boat today following the plans in this book, I would eliminate the chine logs and instead use the "stitch and sew" method of construction. Actually I would use duct tape to hold the pieces of plywood together and use resin (epoxy or polyester) and glass tape to fasten it all together. Then remove the duct tape and remove rough edges. Also I might call it a pirogue instead of a canoe. ... show more
