MOVE VS. OTHERS :) Ever since the launch of Slim, the PS3 has been undertaking a quiet revolution or... could it be the console's midlife crisis? :) Here's what happened recently - and I will only note the more important developments going 12 months back (writing this in Oct., 2010): - NetFLIX streaming, now disc-less, 1080p, 5.1 surround sound - Much larger disc (this one is triple the size of the original Slim) - Move - 3D gaming - Blu-ray 3D This is a lot of new 'stuff' for a 4 year old console. I am not going to go into bean-counting mode and compare the PS3 improvements with what we see at the other guys but, clearly there is a lot of life in the PS3 and a lot of what the PS3 has to offer today - 3D gaming, Blu-ray 3D - either cannot be duplicated or is unlikely to be implemented by other consoles of this generation. WHAT YOU GET, WHAT YOU MAY NEED Briefly, this is what you get in with this bundle and I will make it very short because there's a lot of info. at the Amazon page: - PS3 Slim with... * 320GB HDD - as far as I know, the largest hard disk a console has ever had. You CAN upgrade it to a 500GB if you want but 320GB should probably be enough. See PS3 Slim reviews for details and features * Move controller, of course * PlayStation Eye camera (must have for the Move to work) * Sports Champions (Ping Pong is simply awesome, some of the games play much better with a second controller) * A demo disc so you can see what Move can do for you (most of the demos can be downloaded from the PSN) - DualShock 3 controller (rumble, motion sensitive) - ONE USB wire mostly to charge the controllers I marked with asterisks the items that come with the bundle are not included in the Slim 160GB package. Depending on how you are planning to use the PS3, this is what you don't get but may end up buying eventually: - HDMI cable for HD output (a component cable should work too but you can get a decent HDMI for $3-5 or so) - One or more extra USB wires same as above, don't pay more than $2-3 for one - One more Move Controller (some games will either require two controllers or will play better with two) - One or two Navigation Controllers (you can use the DualShock in your left hand but it feels weird) - Dedicated charger, especially if you have more than one Move controller or you also have a Navigation controller - PS3 TV remote controller to use when watching movies TO BUNDLE OR NOT TO BUNDLE We got the bundle because we really needed a fresh console but, it turns out, if you already have a PlayStation 3 Eye camera all you need is the stand-alone Move controller to be able to play Move games. If you don't have the Eye then it's going to cost a little more but the general idea is that it's possible to ease yourself into the Move universe and possibly stop if you feel that the Move is not for you. However, if you get yourself hooked, the odds are that you are going to spend A LOT on extras, eventually - see above. THE PS3 BUNDLE VS. OTHER OPTIONS At the time I'm writing this you can get a Move-less, 160 GB PS3 for $100 less. In my view, it's probably worth buying this bundle even if you do NOT want the Move because you should be able to sell your brand-new Move controller ($49), the PS Eye ($30) and the Sports Champions ($40) game and make close to $100 in the process and you will STILL have a console with TWICE the disc capacity. MY RATING This bundle is probably the best PS3 deal ever - see my notes on how you could sell the Move stuff if you don't want it and still end up ahead. I've been a PS3 owner ever since the 60GB classic became available and I've been impressed with the PS3's reliability, versatility and its sheer power - and I've owned both 'classic' and 'slim' models, upgraded most, gave away a couple. In the end it's a matter of personal taste but the PS3 is increasingly the most popular 'gaming' or 'entertainment' implement in our household. And we DO own an Xbox too. I will not go through the long list of PS3's features. It would be an exaggeration to say that it does 'everything' but, in my view, it does a lot more than the competition and it's doing it increasingly well. Agreed, features and capabilities do not come for free and sometimes they don't even come cheap (see my list of possible add-ons above) but I can't say that I have the feeling of being constantly nickeled and dimed when I upgrade my PS3. I will have no choice at this time but to order the extra Move and Motion controller from Sony but the charger, the larger discs I used to upgrade my old classic, all of the cables came or will come from third party vendors and even for the old SixAxis and the remote controller there were alternatives at the time I decided to buy the Sony-made ones. In addition, the 'basic' PS3 console can take you pretty far as it is and you can have a lot of fun without having to spend one extra penny. To conclude, this bundle gets 5 stars: - for being chuck-full of 'stuff' (controllers, game, huge hard disc) - for being the most cost-effective PS3 deal at the time I am writing this (Sep. 17, 2010) - for the PS3 being the most feature-rich, well-balanced console you can get these days ____________________________________________ Aug. 16, 2011 Note: Quite a lot happened to the PS3 since I posted my review. A week or so ago Netflix became part of a new category named TV/Video Services with Hulu PLUS, Vudu HD Movies, NHL GameCenter Live and MLB.tv. I've had Netflix for quite a while and if Hulu adds a lot of movies show to what I'm getting from Netflix I may say goodbye to my satellite provider. Under the Music tab I can see now Qriocity. I believe there is a 6 months free trial but I'm a Pandora guy so I'm not sure I'll sign up. It's good to know it's there. Oh and... funny coincidence. I just read that Sony cut $50 of all consoles sold in the US. I paid $499 for my first 60GB PS3 back in 2007 (came with 8 or 10 Blu-ray movies so it wasn't THAT bad a deal) and it's still one of our 2 PS3. Best Play Station 3 ever. Move wand option great
Bought my 2 daughters this Play Station 3 320GB bundle with Move wand for Christmas. They had it set up on the TV and Internet and working the same day. Easy set up. So much better than their Play Station 2. Oldest daughter invited her boyfriend over and they were playing one of the archery games supplied with the bundle with the Move wand. Really cool. They had it working perfect. Accurate and well done. Hit the target many times. Great game. A web cam camera is supplied with the bundle... easy set up. Its used with the move wand. One wireless controller supplied. Worked great. They got on the high speed wireless Internet with the Play station 3 and downloaded a Star Trek demo for me to play. Kind of cool. I may order Star Trek games for about $5.99 each via the play station 3 controller. There seems a lot of games that can be bought and downloaded from the play station website. Also Face book and You Tube were seen on the Internet via the Play station 3. Real fast and easy. On Play Station 3 via the Internet you can have other people around the world playing games with you. Sounds really fun. This Play Station 3 INMO is a quantum leap forward compared to Play station 2. With a 320G bit capacity with the memory card this Play Station 3 will hold lots of games. Some of the Play Station 2 games INM0 were just as good as the Play Station 3 games, however with the Play Station 3 there is so much more capability of doing other things with the machine. On some of the games the animation and graphics are better on the Play Station 3 games. Wife bought the kids an interactive plastic rifle and a hunting game. After zeroing in and calibrating the kids were "hunting" all kinds of animals and "saving" themselves from being killed or eaten by wolves, bears and lions. The interactive plastic gun works well with the Play Station 3. The rifle is made to look as a toy and is brightly colored and can not be mistaken for a real rifle. Called the Play Station phone number supplied about the basic standard warranty. Got through right away. Pleasant and informative person answered my question about just holding on to receipt (Amazon on line statement)for warranty. No problems. Kids will love playing games on this machine. Also some games grown ups will be able to relate to and enjoy Being ex Navy I enjoy any of the plane/ aircraft carrier games. Being an old "Trekkie" the Star Trek games look like they would be fun. Will have to restrict use of Play station to no more than 1 or 2 hours per day to kids as I can see these games can be highly enjoyable addictive... ( make sure they have time for homework, etc.). Enjoyable past time to play when the weather is bad. A small amount of game playing is fun. Go for it. 5 stars ... show more

The Best Birthday Ever!
My mother asked me if I would do my cousin a favor and order a Playstation 3 320 gb with the move at Amazon for his birthday which is on the 14th of October. Of course I told her I would when he deposited the money in the bank. I soon got a call from him saying the money was there and I ordered it. I was jealous of my cousin because that is what I wanted. When the mailman arrived on the day I knew it would be delivered my Mom insisted on going and getting it. When she came back in she handed it to me and told me Happy Birthday. Mine is on th 29th of the same month. Wow!! I was thrilled. I had debated with myself in what I wanted to get, a Playstation 3 or a XBox 360 and I had decided on the Playstation 3. I am very happy I did. With the playstation you can stream your media player from your computer to it and copy your media to the playstation. It is best for music to be added with a disc directly to the playstation because you may have Unsupported files issue. My downloaded files did fine though. I now use it for movies and my music as well as games. You can also have fun with pictures which I intend to do. It has become my Media Center! What was included with this bundle is the Move and it is fun with the Sports Champion which also came with it.. You only get one Move controller included with the system bundle. This isn't a problem but some of the games are best played with two even though they can be played with only one. For instance: Gladiator, Vollyball, Archery. There is also Frisbee Golf, Botche Ball and table tennis. They are all fun to play. So, with the playstation 3 you have a Blue Ray player for movies, you can stream your media (movies, music and pictures)with the option to copy them to the system and we cannot forget games to be played and downloaded. This I did not know, that you can go online for free with the Playstation 3 unlike the Xbox 360. I would recommend getting the playstation 3 first and later maybe getting the XBox 360. ... show more

Worth EVERY penny!
I love Amazon, especially the reviews, and I base almost all of my purchases, or at least am very heavily swayed, by the reviews, so I take the act of writing this very seriously. Having said that, the PS3 w/ Move bundle is the best thing I have purchased in a long time and that includes alot of other electronics. You can't go wrong. There are already a plethora of games for the PS3 that have been tested and reviewed many times over, so I won't go there. Instead I will focus on the Move system. WOW, truly, WOW. WOW sums it all up pretty well. I have played the Wii console and thoroughly enjoyed it, but the precision of the Move system combined with the HD of the PS3. . . just WOW! There are beautiful and fun games for all ages, and they are just starting to come out with the games. I am SO excited to see where the programers can take this new devise, because so far they have just scratched the surface of what really is possible! Oh, one down side, if you are buying this system, then right now purchase a charging dock for your controllers. You'll need it because the system doesn't charge the controllers when it is off. And be sure you buy a charger that plugs into the wall. Another note, we have used the Move system in a large open family room (24'x24') and in a small den (12'x10') where we keep it, and the system works great in both spaces. All in all, you WILL NOT regret spending the money for the best gaming system available! P.S.- So far our system as been enjoyed (and envied) by all ages. We all had alot of fun Thanksgiving! Amazing System
I got my PS3 from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and I've been playing and watching movies with it for like three weeks... Well I don't regret at all the investment I did... I mean there couldn't be a better deal out there. For an extremely reasonable price you get a 320GB PS3, the move bundle and a game for you to be "ON THE MOVE" (It's not mind-blowing but it's kind of fun). If you bought all of these items separatly, you'd spend 70$ or 80$ more so it's a bargain! The move bundle it's great, extremely accurate, it doesn't miss a single tiny movement, every move reflects exactly the same during gameplay. Great job SONY!!! As for the PS3, you all know how awesome it is, the only flaw that I can think of it's regarding to the design of the controllers, I mean they're way too small, I've never liked them, they always get me cramp... On the other hand I love Xbox controllers (Best design ever)... but I guess SONY is kind of old-fashion in that matter. And finally.... the blue-ray player which was the final "plus" that made me realize that SONY was the way... For those who haven't decided on a game system yet, I strongly recommend you buy a PS3, I love watching HD movies on my 42'' LCD, the graphics are unbelievable, plus, you get to play games and watch films with the same device (you save money and room). ... show more

Awesome Bundle...well worth the money
Everyone knows what a PS3 can and can't do...so I won't waste time on that. This one just has a larger HDD of 320gb. The bundle is well priced. You get a 160gb PS3 for $300 and PS Move Starter for $100. That's the same price as this bundle but you get extra space with the bundle. Let's focus on the Move. Most of us know what Nintendo Wii is. Move is the Wii on a PS3 plus more. The 'more' is actually the ability of the Move to detect 3D movement. Where the Wii can detect only 2D movement, Move does in 3D as it can figure out your distance from the PS Eye, Wii cannot do this. The advantages of this are better and more realistic gameplay. For example, playing table tennis on the Move vs. on Wii. On the Wii, you can just move the paddle (on screen) sideways to hit the ball. It does not detect YOUR movement. PS Move can detect if you move forward to take a shot or backwards to defend one. It is all-round family fun actually with the other awesome advantages of the PS3, especially as a network media player w/ youtube, bluray and Netflix. I truly hope Sony extends the use of the PS Eye camera and includes video chat through Skype or any other service on this. We'll see if they do that. ... show more

Good bundle
I bought this bundle for Christmas as an upgrade for my son's PS2. After some research I decided that the bundle was the best way to go. While the price comes out to about the same buying the PS3 and the move game bundle separate, in the PS3 + move game bundle you get a bigger hard drive for the same price. The PS3 and the eye for the move was easy to set up. The bundle came with Sports Champion game, one move controller and the eye. While most games on Sports Champion can be played with 1 move controller, it works better with 2. Like Gladiator, one controller for the shield, the other for the sword. The Sports Champion game itself is ok. It uses the same "flat" characters for all the different games (Gladiator, Bocca, Frisby Golf, Volley Ball, Ping Pong). There are not that much move games out yet (compared to Wii) and I find the selection currently limited. We downloaded the "Shoot" demo and the calibration of the controller is not the greatest. We have used the Playstation store to download demos and to buy and download Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Some people have said to have a hard time using a credit card, but I had no problem. We live in the country and do not have the fastest (cable etc) download and it took several hours to get Lara Croft downloaded. However, compared to the PS2 the graphics are great. Netflix. We have streamed several movies through netflix with no problem. It works great, also using the controller to navigate can be a learning experience. Blueray player. We have not tried out the Blueray player yet and I did not buy a Remote control for it, so I cannot comment on it at this time. CON: this is big enough for me to remove a star. Charging the controllers. All the controllers are wireless. There is ONE charging cable that comes with the bundle. According the the manual, the controller can only be charged when the PS is on and you can only charge one at a time. I can never tell if the controllers are charged. The regular controller has several lights, which helps you figure out if it is charged or getting low...the move controllers I cannot figure out (one light, flashing when it charges). You can check the battery life on the TV, but that means the controllers have to be connected to the PS3 and who wants to do that constantly. When one move controller is getting low and I try to change it to make the other one the "main controller" I have been running into trouble getting it switched and usually end up switching games, giving up. I am buying a separate charger to charge several controllers at the same time. While I think the PS3 plus move bundle was a good deal....it is just the beginning. Since I bought the bundle, I also bought a MOUNTING CLIP for the eye, a second MOVE CONTROLLER, a CHARGING STATION....possible future buys...a second controller, a remote control to go with the bluray player. ... show more
