  • Absolutely delightful and well written book Absolutely delightful and well written book
Format: Paperback
The author is such a good writer and communicator. I would even recommend this book to someone who never intends to make an animal balloon themselves! It is just a very well written book, engaging and often very funny throughout. The book has personally been an unexpected wonderful resource for me personally. I purchased the book while doing a very stressful and sometimes tedious major home renovation project after a serious water damage incident. While working I would listen to podcasts and during a comedy podcast someone made just an offhanded comment like, "Who doesn't love an animal balloon?" And I thought you know what thats right isnt it? I figured as I slog through the reno project it would be nice to have a little whimsical side project to break up the not fun parts. What I didn't expect was how inspirational the book would be to the art I make. I work mostly on paper and like to mix up basically anything that can be applied (pen, colored pencil, various kinds of paint markers, oddball paints like metallic water color, gouache etc) and my style is pretty loose and chaotic. Maybe the best thing about this book is that the author is a natural educator -- encouraging readers to learn the twisting techniques and then use their own creativity to come up with new designs. Or put another way, if you want to learn how to make basic balloon animal shapes there are plenty of youtube tutorials. This book is something bigger than that. If you want to understand balloon twisting to make something new then buy this book. Pictured is a work in progress of my first large balloon sculpture; it's a homage to 1990s conceptual artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres' heartbreaking installation series "untitled, portrait of Ross in L.A." ... show more

  • New to balloon twisting
Format: Paperback
This book is awesome. I am new to the art and needed a beginners book. The color pictures and directions are easy to follow and several of the designs are absolutely adorable and will make anyone smile. The author is funny and offers several tips. Some of the designs are really complex and I don't have the time to create these in my volenteer activities. However, almost all of the designs in this book can be made in around a minute with practice. Designs include monkey w/ banana, octopus, snake, flower, dolphin, flamingo, 3 mice patterns, moose, horse, pig, frog, lion, skeleton, bee, princess, helicopter, man, seahorse, starfish, jet, butterfly, dog, sword, and a few more. ... show more

  • Good Balloon Book
Format: Paperback
Got this for my daughter after receiving a balloon kit with pictures and no instructions on how to form balloons. This fit the bill. Some good step by step with pictures. I wish there were a few more beginner forms, but a good range of beginner to advanced. Helpful information on balloon choices, as well. ... show more

  • Not great for making balloons
Format: Paperback
Not a valuable book. Nice colors, but very little emphasis on a picture of the steps and too much reliance on text. Balloonists are visual. A simple picture of all twists beats all the words

  • Excellent instructions
This is an excellent book! Its illustrations are perfect. But this book if you are a beginner!

  • Great step-by-step plan for true skill building
Format: Paperback
I bought this book several months ago, and my 13 year old son and I have been slowly working our way through this book one project at a time. We have been learning so much and filling our house with new balloon creations. The author does not teach you simply how to make a few different things, but how to design, what each technique is used for, and why different techniques are used in different structures. My son and I read his instructions out loud together, and then read then again as we follow them. Pictures make the difficult spots much easier. We have had a few spots where it took us a few attempts to truly understand what he meant, but that is perfectly normal even when a teacher is standing right in front of you. The book is designed to work through in order, with each new creation building on the skills from the previous one. It is also funny. He strongly encourages people to make many, many of each item, making sure that you truly know the skill and can use it whenever you want to. We;re just a few chapters in at the moment, and my son is already making some of his own designs based on what we know so far. ... show more

  • Making my skills better and my creativity blossom
Format: Kindle
I've taken my limited ballon twisting skills all over the world where I've visited orphanages and primary schools. Though I wish I would have had this book sooner, I'm excited and pleased to have it now. Thank you Jeremy Telford for bringing skill and humor into a clear and precise teaching method. I'm looking forward to many more years of better balloon twisting as I visit new places and delight new children. ... show more
