  • Build your own Pool
I bought this book after I decided to build my own pool. Pool builders were quoting me $70,000 plus for what we wanted. With the information in this book and help from the city I saved $45,000 building my own pool. I was able to spend extra money on equipment upgrades, design improvements and back yard furniture. If your going to build your own pool you will need alot of information and this book will definitely help. ... show more

  • Very Expensive and very poorly organized
I am building my own home and have literally read hundreds of books to educate myself. This is one of the worst. Besides the fact that the book has many typographical errors, sentences which don't make any sense becuase they are just phrases, it is very obvious that very little effort was put into writing this book. It looks like the author just cut and paste sections of other books, codes etc to try and make a book. Everything is out of context, there are no introductory paragraphs giving you some basic idea of what the heck the chapter is trying to tell you. For example, the author justs tacks on a section called Swimming Pool Contractor and copies the State of California requirements. This is not even in an appendix or anything. The whole book is like that. I am not a stupid person (Yale Law grad) and can barely understand this book. I purchased it in the hopes that I could learn about the process of building a pool for my new home. Do not buy this book if are trying to get help to figure out the design/specifications of your pool. The author also does not give any kind of advice or suggestions. I have returned my book to Amazon for a refund, Amazon is great to deal with. For $50, I would expect much more. To be fair, there is real information in the book, it is just so poorly organized and so painful to figure out that it is better to educate yourself elsewhere. ... show more

  • An awesome book
This is a great book and we are in Massachusetts not California. I don't know what the other reviews problem is. Help us tremendously with a great pool design. Has the ins and outs for this type of construction.

  • Swimming pool construction provides all about construction
Primary topic is the construction aspect, could have guessed that from title of course but had expected more about the technical stuff in and around the pool itself.

  • Don't Waste Your Money
This book sucks. It has nothing to do with the construction of a pool. It list all the materials needed to build one and describe each to the max. But I don't need to know everything about pipe,( copper, steel, brass, iron, galvanized, PVC) I wanted to know how to put it in a pool. This book rambles on like it was written by a mad man. I have worked construction all my life and I promise, you can not take this book and build a swimming pool. It has got to be the worst book ever. Example, He makes a statement that " To prevent voltage drop, make sure that long extension cords are of gauge wire." WTF? What he should have said that to prevent voltage drop the wire should be of proper gauge for the length of wire used. I have looked online at other articles and I feel sure at this point I have a better understanding of how to build a pool than this guy ever did. Don't waste your money on this book. You will be very disappointed. ... show more
