I bought this knowing that it was not going to be an "out of the package" fit on the Baofeng UV-5R EX. After trimming and sanding the adapter shell to match the UV-5R EX battery, it now locks in place and the spring-loaded radio belt clip helps to hold it down. Since the 12VDC to 8VDC converter circuit is in the lighter plug, it is able to supply enough power to maintain 5 watts RF output. I'm happy with it and it works well. Once I have a battery that no longer works, I'll disassemble the pack and wire the adapter to the shell so it is a perfect fit for the UV-5R EX. ... show more

This is a key component of my poor man's mobile. I'm posting this same review for all the other accessories of the build, but not for the radio which I love and reviewed separately. Here's the build: BaoFeng BF-F8HP Nagoya UT-308UV 22-Inch Magnetic Mount VHF/UHF Antenna SMA-Female for AnyTone, BaoFeng, and Yaesu BaoFeng BL-5 12V Battery Eliminator for BF-F8HP and UV-5R Radios Baofeng BF-S112 Two Way Radio Speaker Regarding each part. Love the radio. The antenna is good and comes nicely packaged with all the needed parts. What is really nice is that the antenna, base, and feed lines are all separate pieces. Mix and match however you want. The base magnet is strong. The antenna and feed lines work well. The long feed line is about 10' which is plenty for me. The 12V adapter is also OK. It's a tight fit, but does fit. It's also pretty cheap - so modify it as you will to change connectors, move the input line, etc. Personally, I think feeding the wire gets in the way because it enters at the bottom of the radio. Such is life. Maybe I'll modify this thing to use a dedicated circuit instead of a cigarette lighter socket - and put on a longer power cord while I'm at it. The speaker thing. -hate- This thing almost kills the build. The first time I contacted someone they reported weak audio. I pulled the hand set and spoke directly into the radio and my audio improved. Also, the wire coil is too short and stiff. Wayyyy to short and stiff. You end up pulling the radio around by the wire. You might as well just hold the radio. But.... It turns out that wrapping the power cord of the 12V adapter and the antenna feed line is an OK solution. Anyways, this was a fun experiment but in the end it seems better to just use a handheld as a handheld and to get a real mobile for the car. ... show more

I wasn't a fan of Baofeng until I got one, and now it's my favorite radio. Not because it's the best, simplest, or easiest to use, but because it IS so cheap that if I lose it or break it, I'm not out a lot of money. And, I have to say, it does work well. My only beef was the battery life wasn't very good. The extended battery is the perfect answer. While it is just over twice the stock battery in listed capacity, I've had it on monitor mode for two days staight and it's worked fine. I couldn't get over a day with the small stock battery. I also prefer it's size - it actually feels better in my hand than the stock one, and I don't seem to fumble or drop it as easily. It also makes the radio feel a bit more 'legitamate' as a radio rather than feeling like a small plastic childs toy. I wish I had purchased it sooner. ... show more

Used these for a 4 day atv ride. Bought for capacity and usb charging so I could recharge from a battery bank. Used for a day and a half. Should have topped it off after about 12 hours of use. I was lead at. Calling out traffic. Day 3 they died due to me forgetting to charge. We got caught in a massive downpour and I was riding an atv in the downpour for 3 hours. Battery was undamaged it got wet but was under the rain coat. But I was soaked to the bone. I wouldn't recommend getting your radios as wet as mine was! Plugged in at the truck and it charged up with no fuss. Trial by water not fire, lol, but absolutely satisfied. ... show more
