  • Great product by itself, even better if modified!
Style: BL-5 12V DC Eliminator Battery Pack Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
It feels solid and it is great quality considering the price. I didn't have trouble locking it into place on my Baofeng F8HP like other reviewers have said. Anyways one big flaw I found with most all ham radios is the ability to charge the battery. I bought a HAM radio for emergency preparedness and one thing I quickly saw is that all I have is a wall adapter to charge the original battery. If power went out for a long time and I had no gas in my car then I couldn't use my radio. I've modified most of my equipment to work with 18650 lithium-ion batteries. I have created a solar charger that can charge the 18650 cells so I can charge most of my equipment via solar when other methods are not available. So naturally I made an adapter for my radio so it can work off of 18650s. The original battery voltage is 7.4v and that is exactly what 2 18650 batteries provide, so all I had to do was solder on power connectors to the car adapter, radio adapter, and my new 18650 battery pack. So I can still plug it into my car if needed or use my 18650 battery pack to power my radio. See pictures for proof that it works! When I get survival gear I need to have it work in the middle of nowhere. Solar charging li-ion cells and modifying equipment to work with them is my solution. ... show more

  • I am impressed! (See Attention)
Style: BL-5 AA Battery Pack Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
I am impressed! This is a quality piece of work. The plastic is high grade and thick enough to be plenty durable. It has a very solid feel, and is a perfect fit to my radio. With the batteries installed, you can't tell it form the 3800MAH battery. Battery performance will vary depending on the batteries you use, but with 3800 MAH NiMH batteries, It lasted far longer than the 3800MAH LiON battery I bought with the radio ever did. BTW, that is why I bought this battery box. The Baofeng 3800 MAH LiON battery I bought was thoroughly depleted after just 6 months of use. I figured I could do better with NiMH batteries. I highly recommend getting this instead of the standard 3800 MAH battery. ATTENTION: Reviewer, For Realz pointed out a design flaw in this battery box that could cause injury. There is good chance the battery pack can short out if the middle battery contact comes in contact with the radio contact. There is only a small air gap between them. I used a piece of credit card plastic to insulate them, It wedged in tight enough it won't come out, but to be sure, you can SuperGlue it in place. This will solve this hazardous problem. This does not change my rating, but this *is* something you need to know. ... show more

  • Excellent extended battery. Could use one upgrade
Style: BL-5L Extended Li-ion Battery Pack Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This is an excellent addition to your Baofeng radio. It truly does extend your talk time exponentially. I like that I can charge it by USB Cable, or charging dock (reason for that is because when you have multiple of these batteries for doing ARES stuff you want plenty of batteries, and you may need to charge more than one at a time). My one suggestion for an upgrade would be to add a tethered plug of some kind, for plugging up the USB charging hole on the side. The reason a plug would be a good upgrade is two fold: 1. if you're outdoors in a dusty or dirty environment, dust, dirt, and other debris can get trapped in the charging hole rendering it useless. 2. if you're outdoors and it's raining very lightly or misting, that moisture can get trapped in the charging hole which in turn could lead to corrosion or a shorted out battery (and possibly radio too if the short is strong enough). Other than that suggestion for an upgrade, I would say this is a solid battery to add to your setup. I very much like them. ... show more

  • Perfect fit and very tactical looking
Style: BL-5L Extended Li-ion Battery Pack Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
I got this as a Birthday present from a wish list of Ham radio equipment. The first thing about this battery is you don't need a base charger to add juice to the battery. You just need the power adapter sold separately great for traveling or hiking with a roll out solar panel sold separately. The traditional way to get this battery up to full capacity is to fully charge it on the base recommended to charge without it being attached to the Radio. Once charged attach to radioand turn on and press an hold number 0 and the voltage should be 8.3 - 8.4v. Use the radio to bring the battery down to about 7.4v and do a full charge cycle about 5 times and the battery will last longer and have a great shelf life. My original battery lasted for 5 years using the recommended charge/discharge mentioned above. Also it's light and not bulky perfect fit for inside jacket pockets. ... show more

  • Good, very good *evil freebander laugh*
Style: BL-5L Extended Li-ion Battery Pack Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
BTech/Baofeng are one of the few Chinese manufacturers that I can trust, and that’s saying a lot. This product is great. LiPo battery exactly as described, with 0 cycles. Everything matching 1:1 with product specs, no bait and switch which can be common with custom battery adapters. Crazy how long this battery lasts compared to the stock Baofeng 7.4V 1800mAh. I’ve had it idling for three days now and I still have 3/3 battery bars. Low SWR + this battery = will it ever run out??? Quality is excellent, I abuse the bajeezus out of my radio kit so if anyone can break it, it’ll be me, and if I do – I’ll update this review with. So far, it feels extremely sturdy. Another user mentioned that it’s easy for the battery pins to short out. I also noticed that but realized it’s the same on Baofeng’s stock batteries too, so would be unfair to critique this product in particular over Baofeng’s entire design ideology. ... show more

  • Should have bought this one first....
Style: BL-5 12V DC Eliminator Battery Pack Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
OK, bought a similar item from another seller for about half the price -- it fit the radio, but was frustrated it could not provide the electrical demand while transmitting. Went ahead and ordered the BTECH version of the battery eliminator --this works great! Yes a few more dollars (really, not that much), but fits the radio perfectly, and I no longer see any drop in electrical demand of the radio. Forget the others...go with this! ... show more
