Description

The Trident Maple, also known as Acer buergerianum, is a deciduous tree that grows to heights of up to 45 feet high and 25 feet wide in its native habitat. With its moderate growth rate, and easy maintenance, it is popular as a patio or street tree as well as being highly valued as a particularly beautiful bonsai specimen. This bonsai is quite hearty, but does require special care to survive well. Trident Maples are highly desired for bonsai due to their small, three-lobed leaved, thick gnarly roots that are perfect for the dramatic root over rock technique and a readily thickening trunk that boasts an attractive orange brown peeling appearance. In the fall, the attractive green of the leaved turns into shades of red, orange and yellow and in the spring, showy yellow flowers are to be enjoyed.

I bought 3 trident maples from Brussels and each of them arrived very healthy and with vigorous bushy growth. I have had them for almost 2 months now and they are thriving, even with them being heavily chopped and styled as shown. FYI - One of them I didn't water well during some of the 90+ degree days here and the leaves started to brown. I believe that is the reason people think they die quickly, because they need near daily (possibly twice daily) watering especially in hot sunny climates. If your tree has brown leaves, just start watering the tree daily (until water flows out bottom of pot) and snip off the brown leaves so the tree will make new ones. Your tree will be fine. It's hard to over water these since the water just flows out the bottom. In my opinion these are Fantastic Maple trees for the price. If you can commit to a proper watering schedule for your area, they are bullet proof trees. ... show more

Very nice little tree all i have done is water it with a diluted liquid fertilizer aand it has grown very well. The only thing is the wind blew it over and broke the pot ,so be cautious of that, repotted it in a little larger pot and i think it is doing even better.

The plant looks to be in great shape! the packaging was excellent these people know what they are doing! I will certainly buy more already added 3 more bonsais to my list. A friend came over this morning and wanted to buy it from me, told him where i got it from so they will be buying one as well! The plant came in a big box and was wrapped at the base allowing the leaves to be free during transit. The pot that came with the plant is really nice and if you were to try buying the pot alone locally you will pay about 25 to 30 bucks so the plant itself was a steal especially since you can't find trident maple locally in south Florida. The image is from the moment it was unboxed and the second image was this morning after it had some time to settle. I absolutely love it and am planning on buying a second one as well soon. Updated - 3/29/24. Picture of new growth with daily watering and plenty of sun. Update - 5/15/24. Purchased a second one and it is amazing looking. My Trident Maple arrived several days ahead of schedule... I opened the box it came in and saw that there was no popcorn styrofoam packing material around or on top of the bonsai, although it was securely mounted to a styrofoam base. The pot and soil were carefully wrapped in cellophane. The leaves on the tree looked a little droopy, Then I remembered that this was a deciduous tree and, it still being Winter, why hadn't it lost it's leaves? Anyway, I put it outside the next day.and misted it well. I live in Florida and the weather was warm and mostly sunny. In two days, the leaves perked up and now it it looks very healthy. I am a capable bonsai grower and this tree has slowly been dying since I received it. It comes in its own pot with soil. My climate is good(outside) by light and water is good.

This company is great! My Trident Maple bonsai arrived quickly and safely three days after ordering it. It arrived very well packaged, upright in a box with the base pot covered in plastic wrap to retain moisture and stabilize the tree in the box. I was pleasantly surprised to see the tree fully in leaf as the maples here in North Carolina are just starting to leaf out. The tree looks very healthy and the bonsai pot is very pretty. Arrived early, well packed and in excellent condition. The tree is a full 12" in height, and looks to be growing vigorously. This is my third bonsai- the first was a small juniper from a local nursery (Meehans Miniatures near Boonsboro, Md), and the second was a ficus from the local Lowes. The Trident Maple is a great addition to my small but growing collection, and I look forward to shaping and wiring it over the next year. Note: I was hospitalized last June for 4 days, and this tree did not get any water during that time. It lost all of it's leaves and appears to be dead, although I will wait until spring to be sure. My Ficus from Lowes also died, but the Juniper is still going strong. I will try again with the Maple, but be advised that several days without water may kill them. ... show more

I haven't had a ton of luck ordering trees from online, but this one is doing great. Trident maples are a hardy bunch. I could not be happier with this purchase.
