I bought 3 bonsai’s. The blueberry and the Hawaiian umbrella are awesome and healthy. The Chinese plum tree looked healthy when it arrived, but immediately died, even though I followed the directions and environment - would recommend these as they were packaged well and looked great upon arrival! Maybe the plum is just a difficult variety to keep alive or don’t do well with transport and change of environment. ... show more

This is my third tree from Brussel’s and, like the others, it came well packaged, but one branch did get snapped and necessitated an emergency pruning. It may have been when the humidity tray was fit into the package and wedged up against the branch. Even so, the tree is so dense that it's hard to spot where the branch originated. The tree appears healthy with little leave loss and lots of new growth, and I don’t see any pests. It’s size and appearance are very impressive and I’ve included a photo. As I said, this is my third tree from Brussel’s and they all appear to be thriving and doing quite well. If I had more room, I’d get more from this dealer. ... show more

If you are on the west coast it takes 7+ days to arrive. The trees get traumatized and die quickly. I e bought around 10 trees of different varieties from Brussels bonsai. Both on Amazon and from their website directly. All of them had bugs. Aphids and larvae in the soil. If you put them next to other plants they will get aphids too. I have only received 1 broken pot. Customer service was a nightmare. Emailed them and they shipped a replacement pot. It was smaller than the original pot and would not fit. I called directly to get a proper sized pot. The first person couldn’t answer a single question. She put me on hold everytime. Then she put me on hold while I was talking. The office manager Lisa was dismissive and a bit rude. Buyer beware. Words cannot explain our unbelief when we finally got this tree unpackaged. It is 21 inches tall from the base and 21 inches wide.and very dense with branches and leaves. It has a very attractive shape and appears very healthy. It was not missing a leaf and nothing was broken. It was extremely well packaged to protect it. You thought "Snickers" was packed with peanuts. Have a garbage bag ready to hold all the peanuts and be very careful unpackaging it. My son was extremely happy with his birthday gift and we love the look of the tree in front of our picture window. it arrived earlier than promised. The expected delivery date was the 15th and it arrived on the 12th. For information I'll tell you what else you will need. You will need a humidity drip tray to fit the planter. The top of the planter is 13 by 10 inches wide but the base is 10 by 7 inches wide. You will also need slow release organic fertilizer pellets. The plant needs to be watered every two or three days and sprayed from the top every so often to remove dust from the leaves and trunk. A sprinkling watering can or spray container should do. In short I highly recommend this tree and it was cheaper on amazon than from Brussels Bonsai. They have some of the most amazing bonsai trees you will see on their site. Enjoy this tree! Also don't forget to watch Brussel's Bonsai's video on watering and care of Bonsai trees. There is a lot to learn about caring for Bonsais. It is not the same as caring for ordinary house plants. Also the care of each variety is different. Do yourself and your Bonsai a favor and purchase a book that has care for different types of Bonsais. The one we got here on Amazon is, The Bonsai Survival Manual. Although it doesn't have the care of this specific variety it lists clubs and other ways to obtain care info. Also a call to Brussel's was worth it, they told us to water every other day and fertilize every two weeks, but you have to water as indicated in the video. Good Luck! ... show more

The soil is comes with will run out of nutrients quickly, leading me to believe it is old soil. I didn't realize this until it started losing leaves after a month, and completely wilted at month 2. I purchased the small Umbrella with the ceramic pot. The pot is very nice, and the tree was in great shape and even had numerous new buds and growth in the first month. It is at the point of being the maximum size for the pot, and I was not prepared for the fertilizer needs or repotting to a larger container...or trimming the roots and adding fresh soil. Most of the complaints I'm reading are probably the same issue, but blame it on the plant and not the nature of the bonsai. I've always used fresh soil before, and never had a plant old enough to need constant fertilizer. I just assumed the soil would be fresher than it was. So with that caveat in mind, you will be successful. I had it in partial light all day and it was fine for a month. I am repotting it now and have it under grow lights to see if I can recover it. The trunk still has life, and there are still some viable roots... *fingers crossed* ... show more
