  • Fits the need
Model name: New: MFC-J1205DW 1 Year of Ink in Box
After years of not having a printer at the house since my last died, finally had to bite the bullet to get another. While not a whole lot of printing happens at the house, it became clear that going to the local library to print things off when needed was annoying. The price of the device was fair. I found it pretty easy to set up and be able to print to, modify default settings, etc. The print quality is not the best, but I also wasn't looking for something with premium print quality. Not to say that I have found the quality to be poor, because it is not, it does a fine job. ... show more

  • Outstanding Printer, better than other brands.
Model name: New: MFC-J1205DW 1 Year of Ink in Box
Many years ago, I bought a generic inkjet printer at a big box store that was inexpensive but printed beautifully. Since then, I've had several color inkjets—including some very expensive "photo" printers—and all have either been finicky or unreliable. So, a while back, I "invested" in an inkjet made by one of the big printer companies, and it was ok: slow, expensive cartridges, the cartridges dried, etc. Then, after a few years, the company stopped supporting it and rescinded all the drivers because it was now "obsolete." So, after 25 years of loyalty to that company, I jumped ship and tried this Brother printer. Let me say, I very rarely feel moved to leave reviews. This printer is amazing. As a graphic designer, I have a very discerning eye when it comes to print quality. This printer is unrivaled for its simplicity, ease of set up, and print quality. I had it out of the box and was printing greeting cards to go into today's mail inside of 15 minutes. The print quality is amazingly sharp, and I find the print to be VERY fast (make sure to do the firmware upgrade). It's faster than my laser jet and way faster than any other inkjet printer I've ever had. The most amazing thing is the fine resolution of the line that this printer is able to print. The most delicate lines print beautifully. Don't hesitate, this is the one to buy. ... show more

  • Nice little printer for work from home use
Model name: New: MFC-J1205DW 1 Year of Ink in Box
Long time HP user, decided to try another brand. I was sold by "a year of ink in the box". Super easy to set up, prints are slower than HP but quality is adequate for those of us in a hybrid WHF status now. Overall happy with the printer and functions. There is no way there is a "year of ink in the box" though. I purchased in November and only printing 2-3 pages every few days, my ink is already half gone. ... show more

  • WiFi bricked out-of-the-box and bad software
Model name: New: MFC-J1205DW 1 Year of Ink in Box
After trying to set up wirelessly for 2+ hours I concluded that Bluetooth was bricked out-of-the-box. The light never came on while pressing the wireless button. I attempted to salvage the printer by using a USB cable. (NOT supplied with this model I note, but I already had one - curious because if Wifi setup fails their software asks you "Do you have a USB cable?" This was a little irritating.) Windows picked up the printer over USB right away so I thought my problem was solved. Unfortunately, the setup program still detected a "USB Connection Error" so I am without a printer. I have found no way to install drivers/setup besides Brother's enormously convoluted, fragile setup utility. Besides all this the test pages on 1st power-up came out blank. The iPrint utility seems to stack up mystery print jobs like popcorn in Windows print queue no matter what the printer's status. This prevented uninstalling the iPrint/Scan software so I could reinstall (because software was "in use"). I eventually solved this by cold boot and uninstalling the software VERY quickly, before it could autorun its psychotic test procedures and repopulate the print queue. (Strange it could somehow achieve this without the printer setup ever finishing.) Basically, I think all this (except the bricked Wifi) indicates a circular setup design: If Wifi doesn't work it attempts to connect via USB, but fails USB connection because Wifi doesn't work. And the driver in Windows get these mystery test prints all the while that setup is stumbling: I never ordered these documents, they just "happened." Now that I have finally managed to uninstall the software I will yank the power cord (the printer has no regular power switch!) and leave this terrible monster tucked safely in a corner until I can send it back. Thank you Amazon, for your sensible returns policy! I hope you save my bacon. ... show more

  • Works well

  • Great for non-tech sappy old people!
Model name: New: MFC-J1205DW 1 Year of Ink in Box
This printer works very well. I had no trouble getting it set up. I needed more ink-the ones that came with it were dried up, despite what the ad reports. I am using a cable to connect to my laptop and there is no internet instructions for the most part. Just connecting the cable and the minimal task of setup. It only will print single pages, increasing the cost of paper. but it is oh so easy to use. I bought it for a second printer since my expensive one malfunctions about half the time. Glad I did! My final cost, with rewards was about 71.00. Making me even more happy. ... show more

  • Documents ok- Color is really washed out
Model name: New: MFC-J1205DW 1 Year of Ink in Box
This is an ok printer for some usages….at least claims to have low ink costs and the printer definitely falls into the economy category…the documents print pretty nicely albeit rather slowly. Nice, smooth operating sound. Interface buttons are not really to my liking…you really almost need a cheat sheet next to the printer to remember the “how to’s” of anything even a bit out of the straight document printing. For any real adjustments, you have to use the app or program on your pc or device. The setup was not particularly hard but somewhat time consuming. My biggest complaint is the color printing quality. For just routine, “a little color here and there”, in a document, for example, it’d be fine, but otherwise I find the color really washed out. Really missing vibrancy. This is enough of a negative for me that I’m returning this printer. One last comment…”enough ink the box to last up to a year”? Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding! When I packed this back up to return, after printing maybe 25 pages, I pulled out the ink cartridges and checked them… there is very little ink left in any of them, especially the color ones. So maybe a years worth if you print one thing per week…NOT IMPRESSED ... show more
