  • Always stick with Brother, brother and a Pro-Tip!
Color: Magenta
Always stick with the Brother branded toner. You can read a million stories of toner leaking into some one's printer and ruining it or making one hell of a clean up job (ask me how I know heh). I have never had a Brother toner leak or have any problems and they always work and are always compatible. Pro-tip: Avoid the off-brand toner for more than the reason it might leak but because they cheap out on the amount of toner they have in them (less pages by quite a margin) and they can cause extra stress on the printer. These printers are workhorses but non Brother toner can damage the toner pumps, put stress on the drums, force photo conductors to work harder, and cause sensor failure. These won't be readily apparent with one change, but over time, you'll thank yourself for investing in the right stuff because I have several Brother printers in commercial locations that last a long time, always producing, but the ones that got non OEM replacement toner over and over again ALWAYS wear out faster and break down more often. ... show more

  • How to print a lot more--override the automatic stop
Color: Black
I love this printer, although you have to override the feature that automatically stops printing when the toner is low. I've found that I get many pages of good quality copies even after the printer said that the toner was out, but you have to manually reset. It appears that there are a couple of warnings. One warning lets you know that you're getting low on toner, at which point you better buy another cartridge. The printer keeps printing, so no problem. Then later, in my case many weeks later, another warning kicks in and completely stops you from printing. You could just replace the cartridge, or what I do is override this and just keep printing until I decide that I don't like the look anymore. You'll lose a little paper at some point because you'll have to reprint, but paper is cheap and toner is expensive so it seems like a good trade-off to me. Here's how it works on my machine. Yours might be a little different, so experiment to make it work, but just remember that there should be a way to override and keep printing even though the toner's low: 1. Open the door as if you're going to replace the toner (but don't replace). 2. You might have to press the "menu" button. 3. Press the "clear" button. 4. Scroll with the down arrow until you see the color that has "run-out" 5. Press "OK" to reset (#1 on my machine) 6. Finally close the door again. The printer should now reset itself and keep printing. You might have to press "start" or cycle the power on and off again. 7. Remember that you're almost out of toner, so make sure that you have a replacement cartridge available. Enjoy! ... show more

  • A bit pricey, but well worth it!
Color: Black
This is our 3rd replacement Cartridge. I wasn't happy with the price at the time I needed it, 49.99. The highest it's ever been, but since we live off grid, and it's 1 1/2 hours to the nearest store that sells them, there wasn't much of a choice. I've read reviews on aftermarket Cartridges and on another brother Laser we had, I had luck with them, but after reading reviews on the one for this expensive printer, I would not dare to experiment with one. Great product, and as other reviewers have mentioned. When the warning comes on to replace your cartridge, it's ONLY time to order a replacement. I would venture to guess we we able to get at least another 100 pages out of it. ... show more

  • Terrific price on OEM toner
Color: Yellow
This yellow toner cartridge was priced right and works as expected in my Brother Laser Printer. I have had other laser printers and the cartridges in some of the others just don't seem to have the same quality that this Brother cartridge has. I expect this will last me for a very long time. Not much else I can say. It is what it is and is working perfectly in my printer. It's great quality and the price I paid was much less than buying it from Brother or from a Big Box office store. I thought I was ordering a remanufactured cartridge, but this came in a Brother box and as far as I can tell, is an authentic Brother cartridge. So I'm a bit confused, but am not complaining at all. Works great and was a great price. ... show more

  • Great cartridge and a helpful tip for those of us who want ALL of the toner that we pay for!
Color: Black
I print a LOT, and I always buy my cartridges from Amazon because they are SO much cheaper than anywhere else! I would like to add that my brother printer, always alerts me that the cartridges need changing a LONG time before they actually do, you can ignore this for ages, but finally it will stop printing and demand that you change the cartridge. But still, there is a lot of toner left! For the eco and budget minded customer, you can easily reset this to continue printing until you have used ALL of your toner Why pay for stuff you don't use, especially as many of us take the cartridges in for recycling - do they go back to Brother? Does Brother clean them out before refilling? Or do they just reclaim what is left and resell it? I dont know, but I want what I paid for, Brother! So, to use ALL of your toner, simply lift the whole lid up as if changing a cartridge, click the clear/back button while the lid is up, scroll through the cartridge colors until the color that is "empty" is on the lcd screen (for those who are unsure, K is black, M is magenta, Y is... yes it's yellow! and C is blue (cyan) Then click the OK button, then you will be asked 1.for reset, 2. for cancel. You should probably click 1 to reset, at this point. Close lid. Taa Daa! Cartridge is reset and you will get many, many more prints out of the cartridge before you notice any deterioration in your prints. Shame on you, Brother! ... show more

  • Arrived quickly and packaged well
Color: Black
We received the package quickly and it was packaged sufficiently to protect the cartridge. No complaints. Oh--if you're getting notification that you HAVE to replace your toner immediately and cannot print anymore until you do, I found override instructions (google can be great!) that has reset my printer and I'm printing away without changing my toner cartridge. I can't believe how much toner would have been wasted if I had simply replaced the cartridge as instructed! OK--this is what I did (I did this 3 months ago and have had no problems.): Turn on the machine. Once the machine has completed the start up process, open the toner access door. The LCD screen should say that it is open. While the door is open, press the Clear/Back button. You will then see the toner reset menu. If you have the starter cartridges, click the "TNR-STR" and the color and then reset. Do this for all the colors. If you have the high yield cartridges go to "TNR-STD" and reset all the colors. I wish I could remember who I got this from. I have these instructions taped to my printer. ... show more

  • Poor quality control Poor quality control
Color: Yellow
I've owned a Brother multi-function unit for nine years. Over those years, I've ordered replacement Brother toner and drums and occasional aftermarket brand drums and toner. Like others, I believed that Brother toner and drums were superior to their cheaper, generic counterparts, and they were -- for a while. Sadly, as a few recent purchases have shown, that's no longer the case. Though the toner cartridge I bought was new in the package, it looked empty, and test prints confirmed this. I returned the cartridge to Amazon and they promptly sent another one. Again, as pictured, though the replacement was also new, it appeared to be a used, empty cartridge. No shaking would have fixed that (as advised in the instructions). This time, Amazon promptly gave me a cash refund. On top of that, around the same time, I bought four new Brother replacement drums from another seller and found that one of them wouldn't fit the new V4Ink brand cartridge I installed or lock into the printer properly. I had no problems with the new drum in that same package. The V4Ink, which I've had luck with in the past, hasn't leaked and works fine. I've been happy with Brother products before, but as a result of these experiences, now feel that the company should improve its quality control standards. ... show more
