Easy to replace old drums. Please note; You still must RESET the drums even after replacing old drums with new drums. You will be able to print if you just replace the drums, but you will still get the "Replace Drums" message on the LED screen. Easy to reset the drums by using the printer panel up & down keys. The item worked like a charm, completely fixing drum error messages that had started getting annoying. I've only had the new unit a little while so I'll start with 4 stars. Also, the brother printer's error message was not really clear about which drum was having the problem and wasn't keeping track of drum life. We do print a ton of stuff though so it is certainly possible that we went through 15,000 pages on the original drums. In anycase, the printer started to complain hourly and I eventually realized I had to buy this item. And it did fix the problems so... 4 stars for now. -Matt ... show more

After applying the September 29th Main:1.25/Sub:1.05 firmware to our HL-3170CDW printer, we started to get quite a few Drum! errors pretty much after or before every print job. While the error could be cleared by simply opening and then closing the top cover 5-6 times, it was becoming a real hassle. Even though the existing drum units were only each at 50% used, I decided to purchase this kit in hopes of eliminating the constant Drum! error. Installation was very easy following the included paper instructions, doing one color at a time and the individual packages are clearly marked. Once all four were done, the printer went through a number of things internally, but after about 2-3 minutes was at the Ready prompt. I went through the process of resetting the drum counter for each color and then ran a manual color calibration test. We have since printed a number of jobs and we no longer get the Drum! error. Even after taking with Brother about this issue, since I believed it had everything to do with the firmware update, they would not do anything for me since the printer was out of warranty. As I write this review, I see that Brother has posted a new firmware, but I will most likely avoid it for quite some time. ... show more

I purchased these as my first ever replacement drums form my Brother MFC-9130CW. I purchased the replacement drums after my printer message appeared on Nov. 19.2020. They were installed as per instructions and have been fine until today, 10/08/2021. My printer message states the drum life for each of the four colors BLK, C, M and Y are nearing their end of life and will need replacement. I checked my printer and found the drums are rated now having 10% life left. According to manufacturer documentation they should be rated for a life of 15000 copies each. I am no where near 15000 copies on a home computer within 11 months. I've had this printer a while and never had issues for years, but the OEM parts seem to work longer than the replacement parts. Ordered this drum to replace a Magenta Drum that was smearing the left edge of every print job that called for color. Before buying, clean the drum wire on your current drum and, if that fails to fix it, clean the drum surface GENTLY with an alcohol swab. If that doesn't work, then you need a replacement drum. When I ordered this, I thought it was expensive - only to learn, upon arrival, you get 4 drums. So now I'm ready if another drum goes out - and I'm sure it will at some point.     • They're working great! I was wrong!

Once inserted, these drums did not register with the printer. Therefore, it continues to tell me to replace drums. Up to this point, they seem to be working, and the reminder to change them is simply a nuisance. However, I'm unsure if at some point, it will shut me down like it does with toner. I think had I known this would be the case, I'd have just started over with a new printer...price deferential is nominal, considering you are starting off with a NEW printer! Overall, though, I've been SUPER pleased with my Brother printer! I just have to question the authenticity of these drums, since they aren't "communicating" or registering as replaced with the printer. Update! My apologies! It was user error!!! I was unaware that you had to manually reset the reminder on the drums!!! I have since done so, and everything is great! If it will let me change the stars, I'm going to attempt to change it to 5 stars! I thought I had been taken advantage of, but it was all on me!! ... show more

I never write reviews but I felt this case warrants an exception. Purchased genuine rollers and toner to a Brother printer. Worked great for about one month and then the yellow started to streak. Trying the usually cleaning to no avail. Called customer support and spent hours and hours on the phone with them. After submitted all the documentations and information that they requested, they just keep you running in circles chasing your own tail. For the price they charge, you would think there replacement policy would be straight forward but no. they will only honor their products for 90-days. After the 90-day period, you are out of luck. We start the process of with customer support prior to the 90-days and then it lapsed past and now they will not help us at all. Save your money and just purchase the generic toner and rollers. I used to be a fan of Brother but not anymore and will be taking my business over to HP. ... show more

    • Those I Got Didn't Work
I am giving this one star because I still get an error message to replace the drum unit. Copies still look as though the ink cartridges need to replaced so I just print instead of copying. Will order one more time to give Brother the benefit of the doubt. Bottom Line: not pleased at all with this product. ... show more
