Through the winter and into April we had something scratching and making squeaking sounds in the ceiling of our finished basement, usually in the evening while we were watching Netflix. The squeaking made me think there was probably a family of rats, and you could hear them chewing on the drywall or something. It was super distracting and bothersome and was likely going to get worse and so we ended up calling in an exterminator to give us a quote, even though I am the kind of guy that takes spiders outside in a napkin. While we were waiting for them to show up I decided to buy the Brison pest repellent, put it in the cold air return near the area where we heard the noises, and plugged it in. It has been 2 weeks and we have not heard a single sound. I feel like its reasonable to give credit to the Brison, it could have been a coincidence but that would be awfully convenient timing, especially considering how consistent it was for so long. In the meantime we found a hole in our foundation and have patched it with cement so hopefully we are critter free. No need for the traps and poison the exterminator was planning on using! ... show more

NOTE: My photos show the device all the way around, the ultrasonic vents on each side and once plugged in. I did not test the nightlight feature. I've been a true believer in these ultrasonic, pest control devices for about 10 years, although I've only used the smaller type for ordinary house pests, like spiders. They actually work, but it ultimately depends on the truthfulness of manufacturer claims. This device has broader claims that include larger and worse pests beyond ordinary insects: Mice, Rats, Squirrels, Roaches. My concern has only been spiders and pesky silver fish that come up the drains and eat natural fibers in clothes. I bought my first Ultrasonic device on a lark, and turned into a true believer when I literally only saw 2 spiders afterwards in 10 years. And NO OTHER INSECTS OF ANY KIND. In one of my photos, I placed that white oval device laying sideways beside this unit for size comparison. This one is much larger, but claims to repel larger pests, so the size diff makes sense. In my experience, the units don't wear out. My old ones are still going strong. Admittedly, there's a level of trust in buying these units. You can't "hear" the ultrasonic waves they emit that annoy and repel "pests". "Seeing is believing" is your only proof that the device works -- if there are diminished numbers of or no more pests in your home. I know my old devices work. What I don't know is how effective this device is compared to my previous ones by a different manufacturer. The timing was right when I saw this device posted, and I wanted to add to my ultrasonic pest control arsenal. The unit is totally user-friendly. Simply plug in and it does the rest. This one has a red light when plugged in for verification that it's "on", and also has a night light that I'm not interested in using. This unit costs 3x as much as my other brand, but I assume that's due to the technology needed to repel a wider scope of larger pests. It's a wait and see for me with this brand, and I'll be seriously bummed if this unit is a dud, given the price tag. I'll leave others to judge the effectiveness against mice, etc., since I don't have any of those critters. Based on my past experience with these devices, I've got my fingers crossed and trust intact. For my needs, this device is overkill, and my only verifiable confirmation that it works will be if there aren't any spiders or silverfish.     • Cannot use outdoors where it might possibly get wet.
I have used ultra sonic pest repellents in my house before with acceptable results. I thought I would try this one because it said it could be used outdoors. Well, upon reading the enclosed instructions, I find it cannot be used were it might get wet. This certainly cuts down on the possible locations where it can be used. When I received this item, I was surprised by its small size. It was my fault as the product page has stated the dimension very clearly with pictures. I presume incorrectly to associate high price with larger size. I should have also looked closely the product page pictures as this unit will take out large area on the standard wall outlet that there is not enough clearance to plug in a standard three prong plug. You may want to check the area you want to use this unit to make sure you have enough clearance for everything. The more difficult issue is how to know whether this unit works or not. Well, it is summer and we have ants pop up everywhere. For the last 10 days or so, it did not visibly stopped much ant movements if at all. Although the instructions stated to ran it for a few weeks. last few days a cricket wondered into the house. It was making big noise at night and I thought it is good time to test this thing. I move this unit to the outlet very close to cricket. For brief time I can even see the thing. Well, for a few days in a row, this unit is on 24 hours, and each night the cricket was happy making its loud sound in the same room. I was hoping the cricket would at least move to a different room to show this unit some sign of working, it just happily stayed there. I finally gave up, caught the thing and let it go back to the wild. In the mean time, the ants still come and go as they please. I have tried many supersonic things before and none worked.
