These are suitable for oil portrait painting after a few coats of gesso and sanding in between coats.

The panels arrived with nicks on the edges and torn plastic packaging. The mailing box was not damaged so assume they were like this when they were packed. They are "usable" for collage work, but not perfect if used for a gallery painting. The birch wood is nice and smooth.

Canvas painting poses a few annoying issues for me. I prefer a smooth surface and these provide that. I prefer my paintings to not be fragile when I move them from place to place and these boards provide that. I like sometimes using the wood grain lines in my paintings and these provide that as well.
