Description

Thatch is a layer of built-up organic material (grass clippings and dead roots) between the top growth of grass and the root system. Too much thatch can create a barrier that keeps moisture and air from reaching the roots, stunting your lawn's health. A tine dethatcher uproots dead grass and large clippings, as well as dislodges compact dirt for better planting. Use the Brinly 48-inch tow-behind dethatcher in the spring and fall to help gently remove the thatch that can harm your grass. Once thatch is pulled to the surface, it can be easily mulched or collected. The ideal tractor attachment for large yards, the working width extracts thatch in 48-inch-wide swaths. The unique inline transport wheels easily cross paved areas, minimize footprint width, and facilitate leveling. While raking your yard can be back-breaking and time-consuming work, using the Brinly Pull-Behind Dethatcher cuts job time and lets you get back to your weekend. Indiana-based Brinly-Hardy company has been manufacturing quality lawn and garden attachments since 1839. Taking the work out of DIY yard maintenance only gets more effortless with each Brinly product in our broad line of durable attachments. The best yards require the best tools-- get a yard like the pros with Brinly!

  • Did much better that I thought it would
Color: Black
Very easy to assemble. You will have to cut off one bolt to bolt on the Tow Bars on the Right Side Front. Other than that, no issues at all. I pulled it behind my Textron Stampede and ran my back pasture first with a 50# bad of Play Sand strapped on. There is no crab grass on that pasture and last year it did not grow very well at all. The photo on the left is why. All that came from an approx.. 10 by 15 area. My Front Pasture due to an irrigation issue on my neighbors ranch had alot of crab grass grow in it late in the summer, The photo on the right is from that front pasture. It removed almost all of the long arms of the crab grass and left very nice water rows. It worked so well on my back pasture it would take me 3 or 4 straight days to clean by hand so I ordered a lawn sweeper to speed things up. I wont put my Steers on it until it greens up a bit. All in all I would recommend this to anyone that does not want to buy a full blown harrier drag. My neighbors thought it was cute and a waste of money..... He's using it to do his back pasture today after seeing how well is did. On a straight lawn with pop-ups I would not use the weight. I did the front lawn behind my zero turn and it cost me 4 sprinklers so I speak of what I learned. This is a SOLID PRODUCT and worth the mild amount of money as compared to larger hard to handle and storage options. ... show more

  • needs weight added, but works good
Color: Matte Black
with added weight it will pull out severe thatch quite well. Can also loosen soil but of course will not break up hardened Texas Clay soil. Seems to be a decent value. Used behind a ride on 42" mower with two different tow heights. The tow height is important to how well it works.

  • Really works
Color: Black
Took several attempts to get correct placement for use • I discovered placing weighted concrete blocks on each side makes a tremendous difference in crabgrass removal • Trial and error is the best was to determine your specific settings due to mower mounts and depth of use needed • after 4 uses and multiple adjustments, I HIT PAY DIRT!! The dethrasher removed over 50pounds of undergrowth and dead grasses! From a 3/4 acre yard! • My yard now has lush grass • Minimal undergrowth • Allows for excellent absorption of fertilizer and weed killers • Allows grass to actually grow and reach its full potential **I recommend using this several times a year to keep crabgrass’s at bay! ** supplementing yard with weed control and fertilizer to achieve a lush lawn • I have the best lawn in my neighborhood and have been paid to do neighbors yards so this actually paid for itself in one summer!! Something to think about:-) • For the price, this is an excellent value! • made of strong materials and built to last! ... show more

  • Highly effective, rather heavy duty, assembly is fairly easy... a few tips on that.
Color: Black
After assembly and set up this operates flawlessly and can really get out a lot of thatch, moss, etc. It's quite heavy duty and will no doubt last my lifetime as long as I don't abuse it. I have the lawn rake Brinly STS-427LXH 20 Cubic Feet Tow Behind Lawn Sweeper, 42-Inch and got 5 full loads of thatch out of a bit more than 1/2 acre of lawn. The lawn looks amazing, it's easy to use and has held up well. Assembly is much easier than the lawn sweeper ( see my review there ) but it isn't a walk in the park. The instructions are a bit better probably only because it's a much less complex product. A few assembly tips follow. My unit didn't come with carded and identified nuts and bolts, they were simply randomly dumped into to plastic bags. Go through the nuts and bolts and sort and identify them as some of them look close but are slightly different. Having a small 12 volt drill/driver and a nut driver set really helped putting this together. Wear safety glasses and gloves, the rake prongs will often be aimed right at your eyes during assembly and it's easy to bend over into them. As you get to each stage of assembly set your fasteners out in an easy to reach place as at times you'll be upside down and backwards. Don't lose any nuts or bolts...there are no extras! The assembly instructions have you putting the draw bar together piece by piece on the de-thatching unit... don't do that! Assemble the draw bar as a unit and then mount it, it's far far simpler and easier to get all the angles right. After assembly make sure all your bolts are properly tightened and seated as it's easy for one to slip out of register. It works really well, I added three regular sized red bricks to add a little weight and it runs right along digging out piles of dead grass. It's a bit of a bear to put together but nothing like the devil's spawn the leaf sweeper was. It's worth the money. ... show more

  • Great product that actually works!!!!!!
Color: Black
This was not my first choice for a tow behind dethatcher. I was look at these three brands Craftsman, Agri-Fab, and Brinly Hardy 48-inch Dethachers. The Agri-fab and Craftsman dethatcher need to add weight(two cement blocks) to work proper and for that reason I chose not go with those two brands. The Brinly DT-48H Tow Behind Dethatcher(built in the USA!!!!!) was the only Tow Dethatcher where no added weight is needed to work properly. The assembly was not too bad but if you have no experience with assembling large mechanical items I would not recommend this product( for a novice, the assembly can be challenge). After the assembly, the DT-48H is solidly built it will not fall apart( make sure to tighten all those nuts)and will last a long time. Before you take this lawn dethatcher on your lawn you must place the dethatcher(connected to lawn tractor) on a flat surface to perform a towing arm level check. Once that is done you are really to begin dethatching your lawn. I could not believe the amount of dead grass, moss, and other organic material that was coming up. My grass looks a lot better for it. If you are in the market for an excellent tow behind dethatcher look no further and get the Brinly DT-48H. What a great buy!!!!!! One last thing, watch the package of this item. My box was open the three plastic ring to keep the box together were to big and did not do their job. I was missing a total of four parts. I called Brinly customer service(do not call Amazon for missing parts) told the operate what parts was missing and two days later my missing parts were at my door(Fedex delivery). ... show more
