So, as much of an American as I am, I'm also someone that appreciates the over-attention to detail only found in German-made products. In fact, I admire that they over-engineer everything and is why I own a Bimmer, a Benz, and Audi and have a VW. That's also why I bought the Braun 9 Series shaver, my second Braun... had one 16 years ago and lost it in a move. I LOVE this shaver. For about 12 or 13 years now, I've been exclusively shaving with Gillette or similar razors. Actually, most recently the Dollar Shave Club. But out of nowhere my skin became very sensitive and irritated. I have no idea what was going on but it was bad. I shave not only my face but my head too and that got so irritated, it would scab up. Not a pretty sight. Well, I researched and decided on the Series 9. Yeah, 300 bones is a lot for a shaver and I really hated buying another one since I invested better than $200 back in 2004. Well, so glad I did. Not one bump/ Not one scab. And my skin feels baby smooth. I'm a black man with fairly conditioned skin. But the occasional in-grown hair can be an issue. Not with this shaver. I use it everyday with no issues. Now, I do have a technique. I warm the water first and apply an ample amount of Gold Bond Healing lotion into my hands and spread it around every surface that will be shaven. I'm pretty slick by the time I'm done. That's when I use the shaver and I rinse it under the faucet every few passes. I also shave in small patched after doing long runs and I shave in 4 directions. This method really works well for me. I hope you can get some relief too if your skin has been problematic.

I rarely take the time to write reviews. The Braun Electric Razor Series 9 9296CC arrived two days ago and I've used it once. I will update this review if anything changes or I learn something new. Since the start of working from home, I've been shaving about 1x per week. I also shave my head (Harry's shaver & gel) which roughly doubles the amount of time and energy I have to put into it and no electric razor I've previously tried, ever got the job done - even when pulling the skin and rubbing my scalp raw. The Braun arrived and I had 5 days of growth - I'm not the hairiest, don't really get a 5 o'clock shadow, but I've got decent growth after 5 days. This electric razor blew my mind. It took next to no time and left my head just a smidge less smooth than a blade. The longer length of my hair and beard was hardly and issue. Even at the top of where my ears meet my head (hard to reach area), which with a shaver and gel can take a few strokes, this razor had no issue. You get what you pay for, and this electric razor is worth every penny of the price (if it keeps performing like this). I'll also note that this is classic German engineering, so the odds are that it will keep performing and last a lifetime (or until I get lazer hair removal on my scalp - which is unlikely). I got this on Amazon Prime Day and saved ~$100. An early Christmas present for me.

Let me start by saying I've only had it for a little while so I cant comment on longevity. I have had an old Panasonic ES something that didn't stop working after 10 years but I couldn't find a replacement head for so i was getting some consistent tug and pull... after research it was pretty unanimous that braun series 7 or series 9 is the way to go but I couldn't justify spending that much. Prime day rolled around and I was loaded so what the hey I snagged a series 9. It feels like a piece of cheap plastic in your hand. Its light which is good, but it feels like you could squeeze it and break it in half in 1 hand if you wanted to... not ideal for a 250dollar piece of equipment. The dock also looks and feels cheap... apparently it doesnt seal the alcohol in it so itll slowly evaporate whether you clean it in the dock or not which sucks. The long hair trimmer sucks. Now that that is out of the way. The razor shave is top notch. 2 passes max and you have a wickedly close shave. It cant be any better than it is. All in all... it's like an old cheap Hyundai with a plastic frame, weak body panels, that has a hellcat or Corvette motor in it.

I am in awe! This is like shaving in the hot shower with a 5 blade razor close shave. I have very thick beard and even though it might take a bit to catch those stubborn single hairs that seem to resist being trimmed, a pull here and here with a weeks worth of beard, I am so happy with the time, effort and outcome of it. I think about writing a review every time I use it so here I am after two and half months. I’m seriously confused with what people expect from an electric razor for those of us with thick beards (1 star reviews for hair pulling I read here on Amazon), especially if the Karen complaining is the wife who bought it not the person using it. I will trade a slight pull of hair maybe once every time I use it for a n incredibly close dry shave in a matter of minutes. I have been recommending this to all my male friends.

Bottom Line Up Front: If you can get this razor at a good sale price, then don't hesitate to buy it. I have been using electric razors for a couple of decades now, starting with the Philips Norelco rotary style and moving to the Braun razors about 15 years ago. I have owned model 3s, 5s, and 7s, and this blows them all out of the water. I did not know it could be leaps and bounds better than my current 7 Series Braun shaver, yet it is. The charging/cleaning base is larger than any of the previous versions, but it seems to work just as well, if not slightly better. That said, there is a big negative with this razor, and that is the price. At $300 it is really hard to justify spending that much on a razor when there are so many other priorities in life. Is it really worth that much money, it depends on how it holds up, but only time will tell.
