  • And the New Heavyweight Champion of the World is...
Color: Onyx Black
I don't normally take the time to write reviews but I simply had to after purchasing the Bowers & Wilkens PX8 S2 headphones. Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of Sony, I have both the WF XM6 earbuds and the WH XM6 over ear headphones and previously had both in the XM5 and I love them. Great noise canceling and great sound. Until...lol. Long story short but i needed a new pair of buds for cycling and came across the Bowers and Wilkens PI6 earbuds. I'm nowhere near what would qualify as being an audiophile but I have a good enough ear to know what sounds good and what doesn't and i was pretty blown by how good those PI6 earbuds sounded when i got them. So of course I start looking into the Bowers and Wilkens brand a little closer trying to figure out how I did not know about this brand. Low and behold I come across their latest headphones the PX8 S2. Eyes came out of my head when I saw the price tag, especially knowing I already had an excellent pair of headphones in the XM6 which weren't cheap either. But I made the mistake of reading some of the reviews and reading up on these headphones and before you know it I was putting my card number in to submit payment. Let me tell you, that was the greatest $800 I've ever spent on an electronic cause these things are absolutely amazing!! The sound is really beyond what I'm capable of describing. It's world class, clear, crisp, bass bumps but it's tight and just perfect. The sound is just big! It's like I'm sitting on the stage with the musicians while they play through a live show and these things handle EVERY genre like a world champion. They're incredibly comfortable to wear, call quality is very good and I can wear them all day with no issues or constant readjusting. Battery life is equivalent to the XM6 which is excellent. Connectivity is great and fast, has multipoint which was a must as I've been spoiled by Sony on that front. They definitely don't have the vast amount of features the XM6 has and the ANC is very good, close to excellent but not quite what you'll get with the XM6 which is the best ANC on the market right now in my opinion. But when it comes to the audio experience you get with these PX8 S2's, Sony and Bose will need to go back to the lab and find a new recipe to compete with these. I have literally not been able to take these headphones off my head since I got them last week. I even wore them to bed the other night and laid on my back just so I could fall asleep without having to separate myself from the sound (wife was not happy about that so likely the last time I wear them to bed lol.) And that's saying a lot because my XM6's stayed on my head all the time. Ever since getting the PX8 S2 headphones, I honestly have not touched my XM6 headphones. In fact, I took the very difficult step of removing the Sony's from my knapsack yesterday. I carry my knapsack everywhere with me and that bag always contains my headphones and earbuds in case I need them. So removing my Sony's from that bag is a major step for me but after getting these PX8 S2's I just couldn't see a scenario where I would reach for those instead of my PX8 S2's. I haven't gone so far as to sell them but I've definitely put them on the shelf. These are the best sounding headphones I've ever heard or owned and these are now my go to headphones for travel and leisure. It's a big number to drop on headphones but i have no regrets, these headphones are amazing! You will not be disappointed ... show more

  • This is Something Else!
Color: McLaren Grey
I do like good sound, but I definitely cannot be called an audiophile. For years I thought investing into a high end stuff was not for me due to somewhat limited hearing sensitivity, so I went with Sony XM, Sennheiser and similar, high quality but affordable gear. Boy, was I wrong! Out of the box, no equalizer, just turn on, pair and play something with high dynamic range and voila! No need to go deep into the details what makes the sound so good. Suffice to say it is impressive. Period. The noise cancellation is good, but honestly I did not look into that in detail either. Maybe it is impressive, IDK. I was happy that the street noise did not interfere. The build quality, look and comfort match the price. If you happen to have an extra dollar and love the great sound, don't hesitate. ... show more

  • Truly Best in class. Not for everyone. Perfection is found in balance. Not niche.
Color: Onyx Black
I had the PX8 and they were great, not the end all of headphones as advertised then again nothing is. Thier natural soundstage was very good, again not mind blowing. Thier 2 band EQ did not help. Who ever approved that product with a such limitation in this era did not know what they were doing. I got my hands on the PX 7 S3 on the cheap, I mean half price. They were excelent, everything the PX8 was on the verge off these finished the job. The bass was the star of the show right out of the box. The 5 band equalizer lefted the already efficient B&W app. The bass gave the mids and the highs a place to land without ever taking anything away from them. Almost too good to be true sound wise at the price point and beyond. What I didn't like about them, their plastic construction and fabric headband. Coming off the PX 8, it felt like a serious downgrade. Did not enjoy the esthetics at all. They were very confortable not likable. (For me). I could not shake it off, silly but thats the truth. Then the PX 8 S2 come into the picture, the reviews from my trusted sources were glowing. They are pricey but described as giant killers. Then I got hit by upgrade bug bigtime. Sold both the PX8 (not being used at all) and PX 7 S3 for a profit and I ordered these. Opening the box was like Christmas morning. The new car smell of luxurious leather, metal and elegantly exposed wire made me gitty. Then I heard them. So refine, so in control, so balanced, across various musical choices. So where is my issue you might ask. The hard bass I feel in love with the PX 7 S3. I can't recreate it. Don't get me wrong the bass here is very good just focused on critical listening. These are true audiophile wireless speakers, more than the PX8 ever were. A true leap forward not just a money grab. Working on breaking them in to see thier true potential. These are as good as anyone can ever expect to have on a wireless headphone regardless of price for critical (beautiful )music sessions. The plus side to this is that those high end recordings will blow you away. If you want bass sentric more consumer friendly the PX7 S3 are your only choice. As long as they don't stop working the PX 8 S2 are a keeper. Because music goes far beyond on single factor. When you listen to great recordings you are transported. What else can I ask for. ... show more

  • Superior Sound Quality
Color: Onyx Black
I tested a bunch of headphones recently to decide on some daily drivers. Ended up splurging on these and DO NOT regret it. Best non-professional headphones I’ve ever heard in my life, no competition. Yes they’re expensive and after using them for a while now, I see exactly why. The soundstage on these are just unreal….comfort wise they’re pretty good, little bit of headband fatigue from time to time, but with little adjustments here and there I can work through it. Connectivity is an 8/10…good most of the time, drops in connection happen rarely in my experience. Noise cancellation is a 6-7/10, fine for everyday use, but if you need the best noise cancellation possible I wouldn’t recommend these. Size wise they’re pretty good, I like the slim look over most others that have a chunky look on your head. Controls work great! Great portability as well with the hard case that comes with them. All in all, if you purely want the best sound quality headphones possible and have a sizable budget, look no further!!! ... show more

  • Best Sounding Headphones I’ve Ever Heard
Color: Onyx Black
I've owned these for 4 months now. I've previously owned the B&W PX7S2e and JBL's Tour One M3. I've listened extensively on Sony's XM5 and XM6, Bose's Quiet Comfort Ultra, Beats Studio Pro, and Apple's Air Pods Max. I've also owned and listened to many earbuds (Jabra, Apple, Bose, Sony, Beats) and speakers. Among all of these, the PX8S2 stand out as the best sounding, most accurate headphones I've ever listened to. The lows, mids, and highs are all balanced perfectly out the box with no need to adjust EQ, though you can. Everytime I listen to songs, I know well, for the first time on these headphones, I hear details I haven't heard before. The sound accuracy and clarity are so great that if you close your eyes, it feels like you're in the recording studio with the artist, listening to their music exactly how they intended. Truly audiophile-tier premium headphones. The build feels quality and durable with real leather and sturdy aluminum while not being too heavy. It's also much slimmer than its PX8 predecessor and the PX7S2e, which I appreciate. The difference between these and cheaper plastic-based headphones is insane. The build quality is not lacking one bit for this price point. Bear in mind, with real leather and aluminum, the head band will be tight initially. At first, it caused a headache after a few hours of constant use for me. However after consistent use, it will loosen up and mold to your head shape - so don't be swayed away right out the box. After the break-in period, these are extremely comfortable and sturdy on the head. I haven't had any issues with connectivity after setting up in the B&W headphone app - it's quite easy to switch from device to device. As for the ANC/transparency, these are a huge step above the PX7S2e and PX8 with twice the amount of ANC mics (8 vs 4 per ear cup). The difference is remarkably noticeable and is generally really good. I do think that, when compared to Sony/Bose/Apple, the ANC/transparency of the PX8S2 fall short - but not by much. I did just have one of the ANC mics start crackling (only able to heard when no sound was playing). This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars since I’ve only owned them for 4 months. However, their customer service was super nice and helpful. They have a 2yr warranty they honor and within a week of mailing my headphones to them, I received a brand new pair in the mail. The ANC mic was a mild inconvenience but was handled well by B&W. Overall, I think if you have the money and truly admire high-quality sound, you should look no further. What the PX8S2 lack in ANC, they make up for (and then some) in sound quality and accuracy. You get what you pay for with these headphones, and you get some really great customer service. You have to give these a listen to truly understand how great they are. The only regret I have is that these ruined other headphones/earbuds for me, as nothing comes close to the sound quality of the PX8S2. ... show more

  • Great with a few exceptions
Color: Warm Stone
The sound quality of these is amazing. They have a nice rich warm sound to them, the detail and clarity is really nice and they dont sound too muddy at all. The controls are very nice(I love buttons) and they are easy to press, without being so easy that they will set off by accident. The case is wonderfully made, very premium feeling. Now for the bad things. For some reason they feel like they have some slight balancing issues. Perhapse all the songs I listen to just like putting the vocals more on the left side, but on some songs its fine, on most it seems left shifted. Ive had skme friends who also notice it, and the app has no way of changing that. Another issue is the build quality. For the price they should have zero issues with the quality of build, this is also my second pair and on my first pair the headband adjustment got loose and when holding the headphones by the band, they would slowly slide down. Now on my new pair, its started happening on the right ear cup. Its not the worst thing, but its disappointing given the price. There is also very little customization in terms of the controls, it would be nice if I could set up Spotify tap on these things. ... show more

  • A New Level For Me
Color: Warm Stone
I'm not an audiophile. I had been using the S WH-1000XM5 but broke them and wanted to try something next level. These headphones reopened the world of music for me. Rather than almost tedious reproduction of classic rock albums these present depth which I never experienced before. I'm not sure how to explain it but it's like the music that was being stuffed into my head was now splayed out before me. Matched with excusive mode on my PC and streaming 24-bit/96 KHz (not 192) it brought new life to Aqualung, Money, Tusk and other streamed songs. Comfortable has heck! Compared to the sweaty plastic feel of the XM5s (which I loved until I got the Px8 S2) the leather muffs feel great for long (really long) sessions. Again, compared with the XM5s, the build quality of the Px8 S2s is miles and miles and miles ahead. Don't buy these for the ANC. The XM5s are better in this regard. Buy these for an excellent music experience when you have access to good source music. I use the "q" streaming service. I generally connect with USB for the best experience but bluetooth is so close that I can't really tell the difference when connected to my phone. Connectivity is BT and USB. It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and also a USB-C to mini-jack I guess for analog but I haven't tried this yet. The headphones feel substantial but the leather ear muffs and the padding on the headbabnd (leather also?) are comfortable. This is a product I would recommend to my friends without reservations. They've help reenergize my interest in music and, in my opinion, perform in line with cost. ... show more

  • Fantastic soundstage, great comfort, excellent detail
Color: Onyx Black
I tried several different headphones that could be used wired (for better sound reproduction) and settled on the B&W. I have a Polestar 3 auto with the B&W system so I’m used to their sound signature. The Px8s are very comfortable. Not to tight, not loose. The AirPods Max felt like a vice-grip on my noggin. The soundstage is amazing. I find myself getting lost in the music hearing details not picked up by other headphones. The ANC is very good. It’s hard to beat Bose for ANC, but these are very close behind. The trade-off (if any) for the ANC is the amazing sound reproduction. I am coming from the Sennheiser Momentum 4s - great headphones, but I’m giving the edge to B&W. Sounds is very subjective -some prefer highs, other deep bass. The best headphones are the ones that sound best to you (same with speakers). I find the B&Ws check all of the boxes, especially when used wired. The Bluetooth (wireless) function works perfectly well - no cut-outs or static. I highly recommend these headphones. ... show more
