  • Plug-N-Play golf cart charging....
Size: 40A BT-48V
Really liked the plug-n-play aspect of this controller set-up. A quick Email to the manufacturer confirmed that this charge controller would work with a 327W panel to charge a 36V golf cart battery bank. The panel provides ~50V/4-5A in strong sunlight and the controller works seamlessly to charge the batteries. The instruction booklet was accurate enough and online help has been quick to respond. My purchase was ~$149 at the time and I see the price has dropped further making it a great bang for the buck as long as it remains robust in its performance. With our moderate solar potential just south of the Canadian border, have not had to plug the cart into a wall-charger in weeks! The phone app is pretty useful, enabling the setting and tracking of several charging parameters as well as allowing a comparison between what the controller is providing vs what the cart meter is reading for state-of-charge. So far, very pleased and enthralled with the final build. Edited many months later: The golf cart was garaged for the winter....unheated with temps dipping to -20 degrees F. The batteries (lead acid) in the cart were topped off every few weeks with the plug-in charger that came with the golf cart. No modifications made to the connection of the BougeRV to the battery terminals during this period....it stayed in the cart all winter. When spring arrived, drove the cart out into the sun and charging through the BougeRV controller from the solar panel started right up....no hiccups!.....and phone app worked flawlessly as well. So far, a robust product. ... show more

  • Excellent unit for the price
Size: 40A BT-48V
Here is a further update The BougeRV 40 amp MPPT charge controller has now been working fine for over 7 months. I have also doubled the panels to 2,000 watts now. It appears my issue with the lost settings was due to going into the setting page with a poor blue tooth connection. They only rate it for a 15 foot range, but it seems to work pretty well to much further. I can connect to about 40 feet. But that is when I had it lose the settings. Monitoring it at distance does not seem to cause any issues. But if you go to the setting page, be closer than 20 feet to be safe. With the 2,000 watts of panels, I have now had a week where it has produced over 10 KWHs every day. The only small issue is when it is cranking at 25 amps, it's getting a bit hot. It never has an issue, but when the case get's over 50C you don't want to touch it for long. I added a temporary fan with this hot weather, and it dropped the temp to 36C in a few minutes. I may make a permanent fan setup with a temp switch to turn it on when it goes over 40C. Total production is over 1.3 Megawatt Hours to date. This is an update. Since my initial review, The tech support at BougeRV has gotten back to me. We are still in contact and they are trying to replicate the issue I had. The problem is rare. It has been another month and the controller has been working fine without losing settings again. The days are getting longer and it is really starting to produce solid power. With just 1,000 watts of panels, it produced over 4 kilowatt hours in one day in January. This is my original review... For the price, the unit seems well made and it has been working well for 3 months. I am only having one issue. Three times now, I noticed it stopped putting out current, even though the sun was shining and the battery was only at 75% charged. When I looked into it, the BougeRV charge controller defaulted back to the factory settings, auto voltage and flooded battery type. It does not hurt anything because the default voltage is lower, but it ends up stopping charge too soon. After I re-enter my charging parameters under USE (user) mode, and it goes back to working fine again. Hopefully they will find the cause and fix it. ... show more

  • Hard Pass _ Edit, not as bad after giving it another shot
Size: 30A-BT
Update 4: The Bluetooth on this really does suck. I accidentally ordered a Renogy BT-2 module (needed BT1 for another project), and since i was getting ready to return it anyways, I went ahead and plugged it in to this, not bothering to unwrap the long cord, just right next to the controller. Like night and day. Works both with the Renogy app (minus the load part, but it tells you all about the panel-battery charging), and the Solar App that comes with the controller. Suddenly this is perfectly reliable using Bluetooth. I suspect that other 'built-in' Bluetooth modules like the one that comes with the controller are flakey as well, so if you get something that requires a good bluetooth connection, be prepared so shell out some extra bucks to get a good external bluetooth module as well. Full disclosure: They did refund me on this, without requiring anything in changing the review, they just wanted to know more, and see if I would give it another shot. I feel I've put in the extra time involved to give a more honest review to justify it, instead of just returning it as I was going to do. I am now pretty happy with the controller, and with their level of support. Update 3: I'm gonna add a star, it does put out a lot of juice, and customer support is very responsive, which can account for a lot.. However, the bluetooth keeps disconnecting on it. I got it to work with the Renogy app, but it's not as compatible with all the settings. I may try other apps. Update 2: After checking further, the QRCode they have you go to is on a server in Shaghai. But, it then points back to the Apple app store (for my phone) to download the app, which means Apple at least took a look at it. However, it immediately want you to upgrade to the 'latest' version, which it bugs you to do. I also noticed the Apple appstore had no idea about this 'upgrade' So I am assuming that it goes right out to a server in Shaghai to download the update, thus negating Apple having anything to do with it. Question: Why is there a server in Shanghai when Apple has their own Appstore we rely on? Seems shady indeed. Their QRCode should go to the official appstore, and any updates should come from there. Period. I can only recommend you install the app, not through their link, but search on the appstore for 'solar app', which is the app they use. And don't update it unless the update comes from the appstore, not some anonymous server somewhere. Bottom line, the display on the unit is still unusable , that needs fixing. And the app needs to use the official appstore, and quit sending people elsewhere without their knowledge. Update: Cust service has contacted me, wants me to give it another shot. Will see... At least that's worth moving up few stars for at this point. Hopefully it turns out a 4 or 5 star after all. Original review: TLDR: If they can't pass basic security checks to get on an appstore instead of downloading from some random place in the net, hard pass on the app. which makes the blutooth useless And the display on this is unreadable, especially when changing settings. 1st off, The display on this is a complete joke. I need a very high powered magnifying glass and reading glasses just to read it just to set the battery type. Those options started blinking so fast it changed before you could make anything out, making it totally and completely impossible to read. Add to a crazy short timeout, and this thing is a mess. But that's OK, because they have you scan in a code to send you to Shanghai to download an app that HAS NOT been cleared by either Apple or Google, otherwise, it would be on those appstores, not some random place in China. There is just too much at stake with my phone to download an app from some random server on the net. If they can't even pass basic security checks to get on an appstore, hard pass on the app. Which makes this totally useless to me. ... show more
