  • Stunning performance with fantastic, versatile tone!
Style: KTN-50
This amp has changed the way I play guitar. Upon becoming a father I put my 2x12 combo in the closet and thought that it was a lost cause trying to play electric at living room levels with any tone whatsoever. I was a lost soul until a friend introduced me to the Boss Katana. The whole range of the series is impressive, and I went with the 50 for the size and versatility. Boy has this little thing blown me away! It has a 50/25/.5 watt selector which allows one to load up the preamp in each setting. The result? On the .5 watt channel I can get that sizzling hot tone that I used to think was only attainable with massive volume at levels low enough that my 17 month old son can be right there with me attempting to sabotage everything he can - all without hurting his ears! With all the effects and the tone lab (which I will say could use some work when it comes to usability...) you have so many options it's nuts. Get a foot switch for it and you have four preloaded channels you can set up any way you please. Living room level awesomeness aside, if you want power, this thing has it. The 25 watt setting is loud, punchy and growly, but when you set it over to 50 it opens up a ton of headroom. I've had the Katana for months now and I still can't get over how much air this thing can move. It feels like you've got a 4x12 cab behind you. It will match a drum set, and fill all but the largest rooms. I wouldn't hesitate to bring it gigging to a bar or smaller venue. All in all this is just an amazing modeler. It's light, versatile, packs a bloody wallop if you want one, and delivers amazing tone at family friendly levels without sacrificing. There's a good reason why these have become massively popular - I am so thankful to be back in the loop! Buy this this or the (more expensive) Mark II. You won't regret it for a second. ... show more

  • Awesome Value for the Money
Style: KTN-50
This amp is small but packs a punch! The tones are excellent from a 1-12" speaker. This thing gets LOUD when set to the 50 watt mode. I am a seasoned guitar player that has played many small bar gigs and bigger stages as well and I can say that this amp could keep up with other players stage volumes in a live gig. Does it keep up with my full Marshall Stack??? Not for volume, but for the tone... definitely. For me, it is the perfect practice amp. Once you connect it to a computer via USB, you unlock a whole slew of effects and settings. I would recommend this amp for everyone. Shipping is fast and arrived in perfect condition. ... show more

  • So simple, so good!!
Style: KTN-50
I have a number of amps - mostly Fender and they are great for each application. But this amp is light, versatile, easy to use for so many different situations and sounds beautiful. My first modeling amp was a Line 6 Spyder and I never did warm up to it after playing Fender origninal vintage Twins, Deluxes, Princetons, and Bassmans over the years. Modeling has come so far now that side by side with my Deluxe - with the right settings on the Katana - it is simply not enough difference to fuss with a heavy demanding tube amp! I use the Katana 70% of the time now and I love it. I read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of youtube videos on it before purchasing and now I know why everyone raves about it. It is likely the best amp I have ever owned. ... show more

  • Great amp with 1 reservation...
Style: KTN-50
UPDATE: Called Roland about the clean channel. There are 3 volume controls: Gain/Volume/Master. You have to use the Gain on the clean channel because they modeled the pre-amp separately from the amp stage. I understand, but it's counter intuitive. Whatever. Turn the gain up on the clean channel and all is well. Still 4 stars because AMAZON won't let you return it, but, this AMP sounds great with a full on band/live gig. I'm actually pretty amazed it is about 99% as good as my Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue which is now up for sale on CL and has replaced it as my go to gigging amp. Didn't think it would be that good, but it cuts through with thump and sounds like a tube amp at 1/3rd the weight. How did they do it? Great feel as well, and the built in effects are perfect for a simple rig that does it all. 5 Stars for the Amp. Clean channel is really quiet. Like I can play at full maxed out everything on 12 (gain at zero) and my wife can't hear it in the other room. Clean channel is un-gigable. Amp needs to be dialed in to not sound so small. Doesn't have the thump of a Fender Blues Jr for example which I also own and my Blues Deluxe blows it out of the water. Does sound digital but not as bad as they used to. And be advised: if you buy this and don't like it for some reason Amzoni won't let you return it. It's "hazardous" material somehow??? I called customer service, only option and after a half an hour on the phone speaking semi english slovakian and explaining to Amazoni that no where does it say it's not returnable, they took $70 off the price. Fair enough, I can sell it used if I really don't want it for the $160 I paid... Your milage may vary. Best of luck. Great practice amp though. Might be gigable for me with tweaking (my band plays clean and bluesy crunchy stuff always miced through a PA) The gain channels are plenty loud enough, though. ... show more
