    • Pricey and not as private as I hoped, but still a really cool product

These are pretty cool and are a really interesting new concept. The sound is really great considering the physical size of the drivers and hardware involved. As usual, Bose has really thought outside the box and come up with not only a new way to listen to music, but a really creative implementation. The vibrations/air pulses generated by each driver pass through a "wave guide" tube/channel that runs around the back of your neck and exits through the bass port on the opposite side. This results in really incredible bass that you can feel in your neck and shoulders with the right kind of music at the right volume. The orientation of the drivers results in a really nice sound stage and pleasant audio quality (just be aware that although this will sound great, it will never sound like a good pair of closed around-ear headphones due to the physics involved with this kind of design). Build quality is on point...you can really tell they used premium materials here. The cover is soft and well made and the speaker itself feels like it can take a beating and be just fine (love that it's water resistant). I personally like the design (even if it does look a little like a neck pillow as some have said) because its simple and non-intrusive. At first, when I saw this advertised, I jumped on it because it seemed so innovative and cool. When I finally got it in the mail, it took me some time to fall in love with it because at first, I was having trouble deciding what niche this device filled in my life. In the end, I really only have two issues with this product that have made it hard for me to give it a full 5 stars. First, I felt that it was advertised as a semi-private listening device (ads and reviews were claiming that it created this magical bubble of sound around your head that no one else would really hear unless they got really close to you). This isn't true at all really unless you keep the volume super low (really, the only thing you hear prominently that others don't is the bass). Secondly, despite the amazing build quality, innovative design, and great sound, I still think $300 is a bit steep for this. I feel like as nice as this is, probably $200 would have been a more fair price (considering Bose's ear buds are typically 100-150, I doubt you'd ever see a product like this any lower than that). All in all after 10 days of ownership, I can say I'm happy with the device and think I'll end up keeping it. It's nice for audio books, podcasts, and light music when cooking, doing housework, sitting at the computer, etc. It's nice to have your music move through the house with you and I like that I can have music at a level that sounds loud and immersive to me, but doesn't bother others too much. I'm considering buying a Bluetooth adapter to pair with my TV so I can watch movies in the evening without waking up our daughter when she's asleep. Also, FYI: there are many nice hard-shell cases popping up on Amazon for this device if you have an interested in carrying this with you when you travel back and forth from the office. UPDATE: I've now owned this almost 3 weeks and I have to say that it's really grown on me more and more the longer I've owned it. I went ahead and ordered a hard shell case (ASIN: B077HKP39B) and have been carrying the Soundwear to work with me every day. I work at a computer and with the volume moderately low, I can hear the music just loud enough to keep me in the zone without anyone else hearing it in my office. I connect it to my Echo when at home and can walk all over the house doing chores and my music goes with me (excellent range!). The best part is I can hear really great quality sound without being closed off from my environment. Battery life has been great and I've taken several phone calls on the Soundwear since writing my original review and they sound amazing (not just to me, but to the person on the other end). These fill a niche between speakers and headphones that I never thought existed until now, but I'm glad to have them. They really are a joy to use and I'm glad I ended up giving these a chance to grow on me. Bose offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee...I recommend you make use of that and really give these a chance to prove themselves to you. They seem hard to justify at first because they seem to fill sort of a narrow set of use cases and are pretty costly, but for that price you're getting great sound quality and a super cool and innovative piece of new audio tech. Bose build quality. Its comfortable to wear even laying down which I'm doing right now as I write this. Sound is good not great but good. It's missing the deep booming bass that Bose is known for. It's more thumpy on this one and highs and mids sound a tiny bit muffled depending on what you're listening to. Many reviewers said it has a deep rich bass and that the sound was immersive like you're in a bubble that the sound surrounds you. It is not it does not. Get some good mini speakers and stick them under your ear. That's what it sounds like. There is no surround sound effect. I don't even think its true stereo. It's the form factor that is unique. You can have that louder sound without having to be loud because the speakers are right under your ears. You don't have the isolation like headphones or the wear on your head. The person next to you will be able to hear noise coming out of it. I heard a couple reviewers on YouTube say that the person next to you can't even hear it. That is not true. There is no way they can't. 😄 When connected to TV there is lag but if you get a good aptx you can cut the latency significantly to where it's not bothersome. Bose does state it's not ment for use with video that there is lag. I think they dropped the ball here. I'm watching a movie and it sounds like I have the volume up but I don't. It's great for when you need to be quieter but you want the full volume effect. Like I said though get a BTT with aptx and it cuts it down a lot. 😉👍 I'm a little disappointed in the overall sound quality I was expecting more at this price and from Bose. But you gotta give it to them for the comfy form factor and the flexibility of this device. You can bend it stretch it fits easily around your neck. Battery life is good its water resistant comes with a cover which is already on it and packaging that can be used for storage. There is a firmware update for this. I have no idea what it does. The app is simple it has a few adjustments. But it's another invasive app that wants your location your contacts phone status etc. 🙄 Why do they need my contacts. 🤨 I'm a Bose fan I have several products and I like them all. Including this! 😁 I like it because it's unique and it's good despite some things that I wish were better. Oh and phone calls are good. Person on the other end had no problem hearing me. They have something here that's an alternative to headphones and earbuds. They just need to improve on it. 👍 UPDATE: I use this all the time especially at night in bed. Gotta bump it up to 5 stars. It connects so easily and remembers several devices. I can have it connected to my TV and phone. If I receive a call I hit the BT button and instantly can take the call. When I'm done i can switch back just as easily. It's been a couple of years I hope they release a new version but not for $300. $150 is the most i would want to pay. Notice how they are selling better now at this price Bose? Or better yet just give us another firmware update with surround sound and booming Bose bass. 😎👍 ... show more
