  • solid build quality and comfort, but atrocious sound quality
Let me be clear: I own the Sennheiser PXC 550, a headset that is next to godliness, and I say that as a very discerning (read: picky) listener of a wide variety of music styles. I'd heard about the 'suck your brains out' level of sound isolation of the Quiet Comfort series. Perhaps I was confused, and mistakenly believed the QC25 had this level of ANC, when such may only be an element of the QC35. But I truly expected to hear next to nothing coming through from the outside world when I put the QC25 set on. At any rate, while these are quite nice judged on their own merits (meaning I don't expect them to be the PXC 550 in terms of interface or BT, since the QC25 has none of those widgets), they do not eliminate outside sound any better than the PXC 550. Build quality: certainly equal to the PXC 550, though I do prefer the metal headband internals of the Sennheiser. I'm a fan of the QC25's subtle slate-blue ring between cushion and earcup. Comfort: arguably more comfortable than the PXC 550, as the earcups are slightly roomier, and there's a little bit more width (an issue with the Sennheiser is that my relatively normally-shaped ears touch the hard interior structure of the left cup under some conditions) Sound: this is where the Sennheiser PXC 550 just blows the Bose QC25 out of the water. With ANC switched off, the QC25 sounds flat and uninteresting, with minimal soundstage and vaguely muddy response across the entire spectrum. With ANC switched on, the stereo balance lurches significantly to the left, say 60/40 where ANC-off is 50/50, and the midrange is noticeably and squawkily reinforced by easily +6db. By comparison, the Sennheiser is lively and detailed, with excellent soundstage, and there is no perceptible difference between ANC-on and ANC-off. I hope this isn't an unfair comparison. The QC25 is a few years older than the PXC 550, and a good bit cheaper due to the wired design and reliance on AAA battery to power the ANC. However, I expect the ANC innards and sound reproduction are roughly the same tech being used in the QC35 II, and if that's the case, Bose is trailing the competition, and relying too heavily on brand legacy when it comes to pricing. ... show more

  • A fantastic pair of headphones; excellent quality and comfort.
I've been really loyal to the Bose brand — and not blindly either. Their quality has always been far and away better than most of the competition that I've tried over the years. For the longest time I've used their Quiet Comfort headphones for over ten years — replacing the ear cover/padding twice because they still sounded so amazing after all that time. I finally decided to upgrade to something that had a removable stereo cable that could easily be replaced and have been pleasantly surprised at both how comfortable these headphones are and how clear and warm the signal is. My *only* complaint is that these headphones aren't exactly the right choice for video conferencing for Teams. I've found that the compression that takes place on some of those video conferences has this nearly intangible undercurrent feeling, like a pulsing or throbbing signal when people are talking (both with and without the noise cancellation engaged). So it becomes a little painful to use these at times for video conferencing. They are, however, my go-to for listening to music as well as when I'm doing multitrack recording (though I don't exclusively rely on them for recording because they're a little too forgiving of some frequencies and tend to smooth over some frequencies that would normally be offensive or irritating on other audio devices or speakers). Worth the money for listening to music. Probably get something else for video conferencing. ... show more

  • Review for Noise Cancellation Only
I use these for noise cancellation only, so I can't review for the sound quality or what devices the wire adapts for. This is my second pair. The first headset lasted about 3 yrs of daily use! I don't play music on them or use the wire, so I'm only using the battery operated noise cancellation feature which is a simple switch activated on the side. And it works! The cheaper products don't cancel sound well enough for what I need, so I purchased these again. I bought the upgrade BOSE QC 35 for my second set, but it requires you set up bluetooth before the noise cancellation feature will activate, meaning music or sound will always play through the headset-- the opposite of what I'm going for. So I returned them and bought these again. If you have chronic migraines, an autistic child, misophonia, hypercaucusis, IIH, chiari, etc., these are a godsend. I recommend them all the time. ... show more

  • Not for heavy duty noise cancellation
I bought these because I live next to a highway which is very noisy, but is also closes on occasion for marathons, 5Ks, and 10ks. I needed something to block out the sound of all the cheering which can get pretty loud. These work well when the I play music with them. Without the music, it is enough to block out the sound of both a dishwasher and laundry running, but sadly not the cheers. ... show more

  • Noise cuts in and out-good for the $$
This is the second headphones I own made by Bose. However these are no where near as great as the ones i purchased 6 years ago. I was hoping the todays tech would make these better. The first one I had cost a few hundred dollars more, so maybe you get what you pay for. These are better then most just had higher expectations from BOSE. ... show more

  • Too much bass for phone calls
Probably the best noise cancellation headphones on the market. I was using this product to provide technical support online and connected it directly to my Mac. People, on occasion, had difficulty hearing me but I found that was due to the mic connected to the cable was not near my mouth. Worse, the sounds produced in my ears were too bassy which caused me problems hearing people clearly. If Bose could make a headset for people like me who were on the phone eight hours a day, could turn up the treble on the headphones and add a boom mic, they would corner the market on at home headsets for people like me. The only other issue is I am going through one AAA battery per week. Not a big deal but it adds up over time. But the battery is necessary to provide power for noise cancellation as a USB connector would, but I need soley a 3.5 mm connector. ... show more
