  • great choice
Style: Top Handle Jigsaw
to start only issues i have are: 1. the clear plastic cover you can use to help prevent chips is difficult to see where the blade is. 2. needs a light. what i like: the cord is crazy long compared to others, no extension needed in a lot of cases. nice feel in hand. powerful. variable speed limit option (number wheel). cuts clean and straight. ... show more

  • As good as it gets
Style: Top Handle Jigsaw
I had a 1960's era jigsaw that I inherited from my father, and it finally decided to quit. I figured if my next tool lasts even half this long, it's something I'm going to have a really long time, so picking a high-quality product I can live with over the long haul seemed sensible, and I turned to Bosch. I have several Bosch tools, and all are first-rate - this jigsaw is no different. The construction of this unit is pretty awesome. It's a bit larger close up than it looks in the picture, but at about 10 pounds, it's just the right size to handle well. I like that there are very few sharp edges on the tool, and everything just fits my smallish hands nicely. I also like that the tool-free blade design lets you get the right blade for the job with minimal fuss. The strong and solid footplate keeps the tool where you want it and is easy to adjust if you need to make bevel cuts. The jigsaw is variable speed, and there are various blade orbital settings to give you great control over the cut. The dial at the back of the jigsaw lets you set the upper limit speed, and then as you press the trigger, it goes from zero to whatever limit speed you've set. The motor is both powerful and low in vibration, and this is a big help in cutting through even thick and dense hardwoods. With the right blade, I find that the jigsaw just motors right through whatever I need to cut while leaving a nice smooth finish. I have the Bosch add-on circle cutting attachment...in my opinion, it should be included with the jigsaw. It works well and with the power of this jigsaw, it's pretty easy to cut nice smooth circles in most woods. Only two small complaints. One is that while there's a "chip blower" built into the tool, it's not possible to connect it to a dust extraction system without buying a few extra parts from Bosch...in my view, these should have been included with the saw. Issue number two is that I sometimes wish the jigsaw came with some sort of headlight so that I could see the exact spot where the blade is contacting the work. The Festool folks have something like this - but of course, their tools are way more expensive. Overall, this is an excellent tool that's capable of fine results and seems to be build well enough to stand up to demanding use for a very long time. It's probably a little more expensive than some of the alternatives, but it's definitely a case that you get what you pay for. Can't say enough good things about this jigsaw - if you need one, this Bosch should be on your short list to check out. ... show more

  • A very good Jigsaw
Style: Top Handle Jigsaw
This was my third jigsaw. My first was a little Makita saw I never liked (gave it to my b-i-l who still uses it). I had used Bosch and Porter-Cable jigsaws at work, so when it came time to upgrade that is what I looked at. I chose the P.C. based on my feeling the base was better and otherwise they were pretty close. The blade change design- while tool-less, was poor. It came from the factory over lubricated, so it leaked oil out every seam- that caused the chip blower feature to clog up . . . I should have gotten a Bosch. Finally the base cracked in two and the variable speed quit working- time to get a new saw; this time a Bosch! I had considered the Milwaukee saw also, and it may be as good as the Bosch, but I didn't want to go one more time with "the other guys" and wonder if I did right.I got it today and did a little comparison to my old P.C. saw just for grins. Both are heavy (probably helps dampen vibration), about the same size, actually in many ways they were similar. The Bosch only came with one blade- fast cutting- but fortunately my old saw uses the same type of blades, so I installed a smooth cutting blade (T-101B) and gave it a try. Incredibly, using the same blade and the same speed and the same stroke length the Bosch cut SMOOTHER!! I think I am going to be happy with this saw for a long time. A few nits to pick (kept me from giving it five stars): No light. Why can't they put a light on it? Only one cheap blade included- granted I had a supply of blades on hand, but they ought to give one metal, one fast wood, and one smooth wood. When I went to put the saw back in the case it wouldn't fit!! If you leave a blade in the saw (which I always have) and the blade is on the extend stroke instead of retracted, it won't fit. Stupid Stupid Stupid, how can they make a mistake so basic? I like this saw a lot, but I don't use a jigsaw enough to spend the bucks for a Festool or the top end Bosch. At those prices I'd demand perfection, but this is a good saw for a reasonable price. ... show more
