  • Game Changer for Portability
Style: Tool Only
I just purchased this saw to replace/augment a 15-year old Makita 10" chop saw. Over the years I've invested in the Bosch 18v system and I've amassed quite a few tools, none of which have disappointed. This is a new release and is one of the first battery operated compound miter saws. I have a workshop in back that's far from the house and runs via an off-grid solar array. I can supply power for lights and smaller tools, but it doesn't have the inverter capacity or battery juice to run 15A tools, so this adds a lot of flexibility for me. I also hate pulling cords for power when working (1st world problem, I know). The unit is heavier than my current chop saw, but this does a bit more as it's sliding (my existing was just a compound miter chop saw). Specs state it's ~30 lbs or so and that seems about right. The handle on top balances it well, but it is a little awkward to carry any distance. In the 100+ yard walk to my workshop, while balanced, it's large and you need to carry it a little ways from your body since the handle is centered on the unit. For short hauls it's fine. After about 30 yards I had to switch sides. Setup is easy, as is calibration. My Makita was never 100% accurate on angles since the miter stops had some play in them. Setting the gauge only helped a little, but it would work loose and before cutting anything precise I would have to do some test cuts and tweaks. This Bosch was 100% accurate right out of the box (they do calibrate it at the factory but recommend checking it when you get it). I made a bunch of 45-deg. angle cuts and the miter stops lock in with zero play. Setting the laser accuracy was also quick and it stayed accurate through several days of use - never needing to be reset. The laser makes really fast work of making cuts as you don't need to play with lining up the blade before each cut (yes, this is my first laser-assisted saw). The slide is very smooth. It can cut up to about 10 1/2" across at 90 deg. so it has a lot of reach, particularly for an 8 1/2" inch saw. There's a lock on the rear of the slide to hold it in place when using it just as a chop saw or when transporting it. The blade that it came with is a 24-tooth general purpose blade. I used it mostly on pressure treated 2x4s and it was fast at cutting with a narrow kerf. It expelled about as much dust as my current saw (it has a bag, but some escapes). I'll test it again to see if hooking it up with a vacuum helps (I have the 18v battery Bosch shop vac). One thing to note - after about 10 cuts or so, the laser pretty much disappeared and I had to blow out the housing as dust would kick up and obscure the laser. No big deal as I keep the 18v Bosch blower handy to clear off work easily. As for power... wow. I have several 18v 8.0AH Core batteries. I did about 100 cuts with it and the battery was only down 1 bar. The saw starts up and gets to speed fast - faster than my 120v Makita. It never bogs down and powers through every cut I made. The brake stops it quickly as well. It's also much quieter than my Makita, both when it's running and cutting. I'm am 100% pleased with this saw and if you are looking for a battery powered miter saw, definitely consider this one. The freedom of cords is awesome and this saw makes a great addition to my arsenal. ... show more

  • Portable
Style: w/ 18V 8 Ah Battery
I have the large Milwaukee 12 inch sliding compound miter saw that weighs about 70 lbs. I always dread hauling it around to jobs that only require a few hours of carpentry. I’m 62 and weigh 150 so carrying almost half my body weight for a few cuts is too laborious. This little Bosch saw is way easier to carry and I don’t feel I have to sacrifice performance for portability. The first job I used it on required around 30 cuts on pine 1x10 for shelving. The saw performed flawlessly and when I got home I checked the 8 amp hour battery and it still had 5 bars! Upon unboxing I did have to slightly adjust the bevel and miter. I’ve only needed the single bevel a few times and it was fine. I also adjusted the laser to align with the cut perfectly and honestly I like it. My old Milwaukee doesn’t have a laser so this is new to me. The saw is quieter too. The blade that comes with the saw is mediocre so I got a better one and it cuts like butter. ... show more

  • Light and portable power.
Style: Tool Only
I have 2 10" corded slide miter saws, a Bosch and a Craftsman(that came from Sears). I have used them both, the Bosch for going on 20 years, the Craftsman for about 5. Used for trim, picture frames, deck and railing building and lots of general cutoff use in wood. But as I have matured, toting a 50lb plus saw up a flight of stairs has become something I prefer not to do if at all possible. Enter this lightweight, versatile and still powerful saw. It comes in at a full 20lbs under my old Bosch workhorse, and without a cord to trip over and forever work around, it has been a pleasure to use. Setup was simple and straightforward, a couple of minor adjustments were necessary right out of the box. If using only for trim, it would have worked fine right out of the box. It has a travel of 10+ inches, so 45 degree cuts in 2x6s are cake, and cross cuts 2x10's with ease. The 8" blades aren't as common as 10" ones are, but they're easy to find on Amazon. If I need to cut 4x4s, I'll use my old corded tool, for most everything else, this saw does the same with the same confidence and precision you expect from Bosch. I have plenty of 4ah batteries, and they worked in a pinch while the 8ah was recharging. But for best results, use the 8. ... show more

  • Missing parts right out the box
Style: w/ 18V 8 Ah Battery
I don’t love this saw like I was hoping too. I was missing the handle hardware, still need to contact Bosch to see if they will send me some. The cutting power just is nowhere like my corded miter saw but it is very handy not to have to rely on the cord. The laser is mostly worthless for me, doesn’t line up well at all. Build quality is pretty good except for the rubber feet won’t stay on and already have lost one of them. Overall not impressed with this saw and would not recommend it. ... show more

  • Accurate cuts, goes all day on a single charge
Style: w/ 18V 8 Ah Battery
I used this primarily for deck building with odd shapes/angles. The saw was accurate, easy to use, works all day on a single charge. The only downside as others have pointed out is that the laser quickly gets blocked by sawdust and it's difficult to clean off. A long handled skinny brush or blast from a compressor worked for me. ... show more

  • Small project crusher, mobility is hard to beat
Style: Tool Only
Absolutely love this saw. I already own a 12" miter, but I do projects in both my garage and backyard shed and it was a pain to have to move the big guy back and forth on a stand. With this, I can do quick cuts anywhere including inside my house with ease. Definitely recommend an 8ah battery on hand so there's no potential issue running out of juice. ... show more

I am a project manager for a remodeling company. Great that will do 95% of what I need it too. No dual bevel kinda stinks.
