    • Great Alternator, 2004 Ford F250 6.0
Purchased this alternator for my 2004 Ford F250 with the 6.0 after the OEM unit went out at approximately 75K miles. When originally purchased 5 years ago it stated it fit my vehicle but for some reason that is no longer the case. Still fit with no issues and took less then 10 minutes to install with no special tools. Voltage has been as expected and never had a issue. 5 years later, to the day of purchase, the alternator failed on the way to work. Battery light came on the dash and voltage noted on SCT gauge to be at around 11.5-11.7 during remainder of drive. Alternator did give me 50K worry free miles. Now, for the good part. It has a lifetime warranty. Initially made phone calls to Bosch and was transferred a few times, no big deal. Got a call back from a Bosch rep stating the alternator did have a Lifetime warranty, but warranty would need to be handled through seller. Rep gave me customer service number for Amazon, (who was the seller) and another Bosch number for any other questions. Called Amazon, customer service was great, ended up having to talk to a supervisor but the New replacement was shipped and arrived 2 days later, no out of pocket costs. Shipped old alternator in the box new alternator came into complete return/ replacement. Shipping label provided. Could not ask for more, especially for the price of a new alternator. I plan on owning this truck for another 15 years, so I'll replace as needed. ... show more

    • Great price for a NEW alternator
I've actually installed this in my 99 F350 7.3 diesel as an upgrade to the wimpy 110 factory alternator that it came with. This Bosch alternator on my truck puts out 14.29 amps at idle. Its nice to find a new (not rebuilt) alternator. So far so good after a few weeks. Amazon got it to me right away with free shipping. UPDATE: 2-4-14 This alternator has been going strong with no problems. Still glad I purchased it. UPDATE: 9-19-16 Still going strong without any problems. UPDATE: 1-2-19 Burned out after 6 years, 2 months of service. Worked great up to the end. Now we'll see if they'll honor their warranty. I'll report back. UPDATE: 7-19-19 It took about 2 months to get things straightened out with Bosch...getting ahold of the right people int he right department was hard to do. I wasn't given the run-around just not easy to get people to respond. When one person finally did I latched onto her pretty quickly and she got the ball rolling. After sending them a copy of the replacement alternator's receipt that I purchased on the road from an Autozone store when the alternator failed on me, they sent me a check for the full original price I paid for the alternator. So, if you've got time to wait and all they made good their warranty and then some since the replacement was cheaper than Bosch one it replaced. 10-2-19. Well the Autozone alternator that was used to replace this one went bad after 10 months.     • Perfect for 2005 Excursion 6.0
Amazon says this does not fit a 2005 Excursion 6.0, but I read the reviews and took a chance. It fits perfectly. And in addition to adding extra amperage over the weenie stock 110 amp alternator, it fixed the varying voltage that was causing my charging and starting problems. I did get the overdrive pulley as recommended by others. I haven't replaced an alternator pulley before but the old one zipped off easily with an impact ratchet and some gloves. The new one went on just as easy. Slacking the belt on the 6.0 requires alot of muscle to engage the keeper on the bottom of the tensioner. I'm not going to pretend that I did not curse and throw things. But once the tensioner is locked out the replacement process is a breeze. My truck has 170k in it and this is its first new alternator. I think I got a good one. Bosch is a well recognized brand. Reviewing the dozens of alternators available, it is tempting to go up and up on the amperage. Why not go 230 amps and be like an ambulance? Closer scrutiny and research reveals that if you go bigger than this one, you need to replace alot of stock wiring between the batteries, to the alternator, and for the grounds. Otherwise you will melt everything. This alternator is a good upgrade without requiring further upgrades. ... show more

    • Can a New Alternator be Defective?
Having an alternator installed on my 2005 6.0 diesel was quoted at just less than $800. Being retired I just couldn’t afford that price so I decided to do it myself after watching a few u-tube videos. I ordered this Bosch alternator from Amazon after looking at a few reviews and reading the write up about it. I’m sure this company makes some good alternators but after receiving mine, going thru the problem of installing, putting belt back on, and hooking up all cables my reading was 11.5 volts output with my battery light on on the dash. My batteries were about a month old and tested great so I then questioned my wiring and after checking all of them found no issues. I couldn’t believe that a new, not rebuilt, alternator could be bad. I then went back online and read the 1 and 2 rated reviews which confirmed I had a bad one. I called Amazon customer service and they (being very considerate) offered to send another one or issue credit. I did not want to risk going thru the labor of installing another bad one so took the credit, went thru the pain of taking it off and shipped it back. Ordered a DB this time, put it on reading 13.7 volts and the battery light is now off! I noticed with the DB it had a certificate of testing whereas the Bosch did not. Evidently that makes a difference! If you like to gamble order this Bosch, if not stay away from it!! ... show more
