  • Must do on sloppy steering
I took a lot of play out of my steering easy to install took me 20 minutes

  • Never Making This Mistake Again
If I could give this 0 stars I would. This product is very heavy duty and clearly a step up from stock as far as u-joints and shaft go. My issue with this product is the way it mounts to the column and lower shaft. The oem parts have a notch on both ends where a large bolt pinches and locks the shaft through the notch. OEM design is very easy for removal and install. It also makes it easy to keep everything nice and flush effortlessly. The Borgeson shaft, however, uses these tiny crappy screws that pinch the column and lower shaft. In order to get the right tension to prevent play, you will have to torque it down to the point you will be impacting the metal of the steering column with the screws. I ended up snapping a hex wrench to get the required tension to get rid of the play. This design might be ok if the fitting was a bit tighter, but because it does not, you are limiting yourself to just the ention of two screws. The OEM clamping style provides much more surface area that is helping hold it in place well. Unless you are rocking 35" tires, don't bother with this piece of trash. Borgeson engineers must be a group of half-wits for designing an alternative way of mounting when the stock is quite robust. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel. Terrible engineering on Borgeson's part. Waist of $260. I Will never buy a Borgeson again. As a side note for those who will make this purchase anyway, the trash firewall gasket that comes with the Borgeson can be removed and the stock placed on. There is no reason to tap the tub due to yet another idiotic engineering fail with their firewall gasket design. Just cut the oem shaft in half and remove the stock gasket. The Borgeson can be taken apart cleanly and the OEM gasket installed. This way, you can just snap the gasket in the stock hole. Update as if Aug 18, 2019, I started getting play in the lower u-joint of this shaft. I expected to receive far better quality from this product. I have had this installed for merely a couple months. Ended up pulling this part out and installed my old shaft in it's play for now. Considering that I'm only running 33" tires, u-joint failure should not be occuring this soon. Also, my lower shaft is still OEM and that u-joint does not have play. ... show more

  • Stick with Mopar
Bought both upper and lower. They are sturdy for sure, but I’m back on mopar parts after 10k miles. As other reviewers mention, getting rid of play at the connections is difficult. Connections always want to rattle. One u-joint in the upper developed side-to-side slop after less than 10k miles and is $100 part to replace. The lower does not come with the support bearing, which may or may not be important to you. I also found the rubber isolator to be softer than factory, making steering a bit more sloppy. Really well made parts, just not designed as well as mopar. Pains me to say that. ... show more

  • Not compatible with '97 TJ
This is a quality part. However, it is not compatible with the '97 TJ Wrangler it was ordered for. There is a different part, 000872, that is compatible with '97-'00 Wranglers.

Easy to install and it solved the problem I was having with about 1/2 inch play in the steering wheel. I think mine was assembled at beer thirty on a Friday as the lower u-joint was installed 180 out of my steering wheel. Easy fix. I used a very light coating of grease on the mating surfaces so that the collars would slide easily to get the set screws centered in the grove of the mating shaft. ... show more

  • Don’t buy this trash. Not worth the money.
The steering shaft is beefy looking but the trash u-joints don’t last. With light wheeling and 33” tires the shaft developed a knock, the reason I swapped out the shaft in the first place. Tightening and retightening and still there is play and now a knocking noise under the dash. I tightened the upper joints again and still had the slop in the upper u-joint to my dismay. For the price this is junk! I’m going back to stock and it will last another 270k miles where this lasted 6,000 miles. Run away and don’t buy. ... show more
