  • Very Cheaply made. What else can I say...
You get what you pay for. All you have to do is by this boom to see why you should pay more for a quality boom arm. Not a knock on BOYA, it's just cheaply made.

  • Very solid but Limited Range of motion
Size: 30
The BOYA BY-BA30 microphone stand is a solid 2 aluminum beams with a pivot at the junction, the base and the business end. This causes the range of motion to be very limited, even more so when you find that the base pivot only swivels 180 degrees, others 270 degrees- far from the 'maximum maneuverability' advertised. This is nowhere near 'Fully Adjustable'. The listing also states that the boom arm is 'spring loaded' which it is not, and that it features a 'ball head' which it does not. Also, it should be noted the arm just drops onto a post on the clamp base, with out any means of retention-if you lift the arm the base clamp will fall off. All in all a combination of puzzling design choices and features that are not as described. ... show more

  • Fantastic, sturdy, high quality arm - assuming you don't need one that moves around a lot
This is a super well-built and sturdy mic arm. It was brainlessly simple to setup (my 9 year old could do it) and it also came with a few velcro cable ties to help keep the cabling clean, assuming you don't already have a bunch of those laying around. I went with this one specifically because of the longer length. My desk setup doesn't leave any good spots to put a mic arm so I wanted to mount it BEHIND my monitors and have the mic drop out in front of them. Most of the other arms I looked at would cut it pretty close or just flat out weren't long enough to reach properly. When I tried searching for "long mic arms" I ended up finding some that were waaaay too long too. So this was perfect. As others have pointed out, it's pretty rigid. I've seen other arms where you can bend and move them around pretty quickly on the fly but this one would take a lot more effort so it's better to just set it at the angles you like and then leave it. You can swing it side to side super easily though... so I've had mine setup at the perfect spot for when I want to use it and when I'm not using it, I just swing it to the left and out of sight. Works great like this. It also came with an adapter for smaller threaded mics. I am using a FIFINE mic and the adapter worked perfect for that. I'm not sure if all mics use a standard couple of sizes or not but it's worth looking into if you're worried about yours. ... show more

  • Great product
We use this for streaming on different platforms with our microphones when we have additional guests. It works well considering it's build.

  • Works ok, but disappointing adjustability
This boom arm basically does the job, but there are two issues with it that prevent me from being able to give it a better review. In the attached photo, you'll see this boom arm in back and a competitor in the front (Tonor brand - also available on Amazon). The elbow joints of both are flexed *down* as far as they will go. See how much lower the other one will go? This isn't so relevant if you're just using it for audio, but if you're using it for something with visuals (like a video podcast, as in my situation), this limitation makes it challenging to keep the boom arm out of the faces of the talent (if you have multiple on-camera people). This is actually a deal breaker for me. 2. While the arm is pretty solid, including the pivoting joints, there is no adjustment knob for tightening the joints -- only a hex bolt at the joints. That said, it comes pretty tight already and able to hold a relatively heavy mic, but what happens when it gets looser while you're doing a job, the mic won't stay up, and you don't happen to have the exact right size hex driver handy? It was a very poor design choice. I can't even say it's "good for the money," because there are many other options for around the same cost or less. It was decent enough to give 3 stars, but I can't really recommend it outright. ... show more

  • Good boom stand!
Size: 30
This stand does great for holding one of my heaviest microphones. The clamp stays secure after tightening and I like how adjustable the boom is to adjust it to the right angle. It has a good way to control the wire to keep it out the way and neat. I just wish the clamp had extra options to attach it to table without the larger horizontal edge. A vertical clamp option would be nice but this feels like a quality boom stand. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Good
Size: 30
I didn't think a boom arm could live up to the price but this thing is nice. I'm used to using $20 arms and this is a big change. First of this one is much longer which gives more freedom to place it where I want. Also this thing is so much sturdier than the flimsy metal of my cheap arm. This thing is solid and well built. The cable channel along the length of it is also a great addition. The only real drawback I have on this is that the pivot points are clearly set on some kind of gears, that means it will only lock at certain spots through the rotation limiting the adjustability a bit. Also the fit of the arm itself into the desk mount could be a bit tighter as there is a bit of slack. Normally I wouldn't bother to complain about those but at this price it could be better. Overall, this thing is still leaps and bounds better that cheapo mic arms and if you have the money it'll be a good investment. ... show more
