  • Perfect trumpet for a 3 year old interested in music!
This kid's toy trumpet can't be beat. It is exactly what I was looking to order from Santa for my 3 year old for Christmas. Every time we asked him what he wanted from Santa it was the same- "A TRUMPET!!!" You can't find this in any stores in my area, and shipping from other sites is ridiculously expensive. This kids toy-instrument doesn't sound obnoxious. One tip: to keep the music going you must be continuously holding down one or more of the colored buttons. It does seem to be made of plastic, so only buy for a child who seems ready and won't be careless with it or monitor them when they play with it. Also, I was worried about not getting this in time for Christmas as I ordered it kind of late. But I spoke with the elves at the Amazon division of the North Pole and they made it happen! 100% awesome product and beyond perfect service. ... show more

  • Review from Mommy's Perspective
My kid BEGGED for a trumpet (?!) for her 4th birthday. No clue where she even found out what a trumpet was. But after the idea didn't go away for weeks, I searched Amazon and came up with this. Maybe it is because this isn't an American toy (it's an Italian company), this is more civilized than usual, and less obnoxious than most American toys. The trumpet is made from a lightweight plastic, which feels like it should be that cheap plastic crap that shatters easily, but it isn't. This thing is lightweight and amazingly tough. While I am sure it CAN be broken, my offspring hasn't managed to do it yet, and she is tough on toys. Most importantly though, no, it doesn't make obnoxious trumpet noises, more like a soft harmonica kind of noise. Someone designed this thing with the sanity of the parents in mind. It actually sounds pretty. The toy is functional as a musical instrument, and even comes with some sheet music printed on the box. Overall a good purchase, and if she asks for a saxophone next we will buy from the same company again. UPDATE: A full year later this toy remains unbroken. The kiddo is still playing with it too. ... show more

  • Fun but low quality
My 3 year old has loved this trumpet for 4 months now. It is great for pretend play, but since the silver color has already worn off, I'll be shocked if it survives to his next birthday. Pros: - large size (like a real trumpet) - sounds are relatively quiet and melodious (nice for parents) - hasn't shattered when tossed on the floor Cons: - silver color rubs off easily, revealing black plastic beneath - child must press the keys while blowing into horn to make any sound at all - has 4 keys, not 3 like a real trumpet My child usually holds it up to his mouth and hums into it - but thats because he wants to play Aaron Copland, and even if this trumpet was easy to operate, it wouldn't allow him to do that! Overall, this toy is a good idea that should be better executed. ... show more

  • Blow Your Horn!
The media could not be loaded. You can jumpstart your child’s appreciation for musical instruments by purchasing this toy trumpet by Bontempi. We bought this horn more than a year ago, and it’s still playing Reveille in the morning and Taps in the evening. The toy models the real thing with a finger hook, nonworking slide hold and a faux water key - aka the spit drain. Speaking of spit, blowing into any horn creates moisture so be sure to stand this one on its bell over a napkin after use to allow proper drainage before a thorough airing out on its side. Over time, the breath will turn the shiny inside of the bell black but I did not notice any slimy residue associated with the discoloration. Don’t get all grossed out by this information; the care and maintenance of real – and toy – horns is serious business. The harder you blow, the louder the sound played by pressing one or more or all of the four valves. It’s not a resonating tone, but for a toy, it’s an impressive sound. One note: The high E ③ note requires strong lungs. The packaging includes key fingering for two songs. Skip their songs but keep the note guide so that you can teach your budding musician to play Reveille and Taps using the score notes below (sound clip of my son playing the horn gives an idea of its range). Those are songs more recognizable to a U.S. audience and will have your little horn player marching to their own beat!
