TL;DR: The product has good features but the battery of one of the timers failed (see image). Though it still functions, the timer no longer keeps time when disconnected from power. Since the other 5 I've purchased are fine, I suspect a defective battery in the affected unit. More Comprehensive Review: Overall a good product Back in May 2023, I purchased 2 sets of 2 for a total of 4 timers. The functionality offered by this product is perfectly sufficient, though programing the timer can be confusing at first — fortunately, the manual is easy to understand and provides well-written examples. The Daylight Saving Time (DST) feature that allows you to adjust the time forward/back by an hour is very convenient and well-appreciated. The accuracy of the time may drift off slowly, but it is not noticeable — a few minutes over several weeks. This may depend on the quality of the electricity service in the area. Over the summer, each of them kept time through several power outages caused by thunderstorms. After several months, I purchased another set of 2 timers since the original 4 were working well. Later Issues: Internal Battery Backup Defective? With winter approaching in November 2023, darkness was arriving sooner, prompting me to reprogram the time in coordination with sunset. Because it is difficult to see the display of these timers while they are plugged into an outlet, I usually set the on/off times while they are unplugged and in hand. This is feasible as the backup battery keeps the unit running. Unfortunately, one of the original 4 timers I purchased in May immediately lost power and was making a rattling noise. I investigated the issue by removing the rear cover and found that the internal rechargeable Ni-MH battery had inflated, causing the separation of one of its contacts (see image). The battery was fine when the timer was new, but failed several months into use — it is NOT user replaceable. Although the timer still functions, it no longer keeps time during power interruptions. Our old pull-the-pins manual lamp timer finally bit the dust and I decided to go digital this time. After reading the review, I settled on giving this a try. It's brand new to us so I can't talk about longevity, but my initial impression is, it's perfect. Because of the internal battery, you can program it while sitting at your desk before bending down to maneuver behind whatever piece of furniture is blocking the outlet. For those who have read the negative reviews about difficulty in programing. I have some experience with digital timers and no two of them program the same way. I found this one easier than most. All I did was follow the step-by-step instructions in the manual. Unboxing to plug-in took about 7 minutes. The size is ideal. This was obviously a return because one of the timers was missing plastic film. Additionally, that timers would not allow me to program to auto from manual. Amazon needs to do a better job on returns to insure the product works properly before putting it back on shelf. I'll be returning this and replacing it with a another brand. ... show more

These programmable timers are perfect for use around the house. They are small enough and don’t look odd. The buttons are easy to read and very easy to setup. They are great for everyday home light automation and I can’t wait to use them during Christmas!

Bought two of these two years ago to power string accent leds (less than 1 amp current draw). Both are now dead. Not durable at all. They're good when they work, useless now. The horizontal design is a plus. I would advise you buy something else.
