I bought this because my husband has a terrible cat allergy and had been begging me to get an air purifier. I was extremely skeptical. I honestly thought air purifiers were one of those things people bought to feel like they were being healthy without really knowing whether they did anything. I checked Wirecutter, saw this one was highly recommended, and figured fine, let’s try it. Now I am completely bamboozled by how well it works. Most of the time the app tells me the air quality in our house is great, but I started noticing these weird little air-quality spikes between about 8 and 10 p.m. I could not figure out what was causing them. Then I realized that’s around the time I sometimes use a legal THC vape pen before bed. What’s even crazier is that I’m not even in the same room as the purifier. Our house is about 2,500 square feet, and the purifier is in our bedroom, several rooms away. Somehow, whatever tiny amount of vapor makes its way through the house is enough for this thing to detect it and react. I thought maybe it was a coincidence, so I tested the theory a few times. Nope. It keeps happening. That was the moment I became a believer. If this thing can pick up a small amount of vapor from five rooms away, I have a lot more confidence that it’s actually doing something with the allergens, dust, and other stuff I can’t see. I bought this for my husband, but apparently I’m the air-purifier person now. Five stars.

I honestly never imagined I would own an air purifier like this, especially one this substantial, but now that I do, it runs every single day. I have mine on a schedule so it runs during the hours when we are normally active around the house. On the lower fan setting it is incredibly quiet. Most of the time I completely forget it is even running because I can barely hear it. There is a huge difference at full power though. When the fan is running full blast, there is absolutely no forgetting that this thing is on. The first thing I noticed when I got it was the size. It is MASSIVE. This is definitely something I would measure for before ordering because it takes up a considerable amount of space. Fortunately, it has a child lock that prevents little hands from changing the controls. I did discover another toddler related problem that the child lock cannot solve. My toddler managed to slip a piece of my blinds down into the top of the fan. I nearly had a heart attack considering how expensive this purifier is. I turned the entire thing upside down and thankfully the piece fell back out. The Blueair survived. My blinds were not so fortunate. 🤦🏼♀️ I now keep the purifier elevated on a small table where he cannot drop anything into the top. The controls themselves are very straightforward, and I really like that I do not have to constantly open the app to check the air quality. The color coded indicator gives me an immediate visual indication of the current air quality, while the app provides the actual numbers when I want more information. Connecting it to the app and WiFi also gives me more control over how and when it operates. One important thing to know before making such an expensive purchase is that the WiFi connection requires a 2.4 GHz network, so I would make sure your home network supports that before ordering. Maintenance has been much easier than I expected. With consistent daily use, I have been getting around three months from a filter. Changing it is simple, and considering how frequently I use the purifier and the lifespan I get from each filter, I think the replacement cost is reasonable. I also really appreciate the washable fabric prefilter on the outside. It comes off easily, can be machine washed, and, equally important, goes back on without a struggle. Once it is back in place, the purifier looks like the cover was never removed. For everyday effectiveness, one of my favorite things is simply being able to see what it is detecting rather than wondering whether an expensive machine sitting in my house is actually doing anything. I can glance at the color coded air quality indicator or open the app when I want the actual readings. Being able to schedule it also means I do not have to remember to turn it on and off every day. It quietly does its job in the background while we go about our normal routine. This is certainly an investment, and between the price and enormous size, it is not something I would order without knowing I had an appropriate place for it. After actually living with it and using it every day, though, I can appreciate where the value comes from. The quiet operation on low, scheduling, app connectivity, easy maintenance, washable exterior prefilter, child lock, and accessible air quality information all make it something I actually use rather than an expensive appliance sitting around collecting dust. Having children also changes how I look at something like an air purifier. There is a certain peace of mind in knowing I have something continuously filtering the air in the space where my family spends so much of our time. I cannot personally see every particle it removes from the air, but I can monitor the readings and see the purifier responding to changes in air quality. For something I once never imagined owning, it has very quickly become part of our everyday household routine. And after surviving my toddler’s attempt to feed it part of the blinds, I am particularly glad it is still running perfectly.

When it said the BLUEAIR 211i Max was for large rooms, they literally mean it will handle your whole house. This beast is an absolute unit of an air purifier. It's rated for over 3200 sq ft of living space, so of course I left it in the corner of my home gym next to one of the litter boxes in order for it to do the most good. This was the ultimate use case for me: Can the automatic air quality sensor detect when one of the kitties do a number 2? The answer is "not particularly". The setup was simple as all the other BLUEAIR devices I own, just click the big + sign in the app and it will request Bluetooth permission and instruct you to hold the Auto button for 5 seconds. Once you've selected the new device, proceed to connect to your WiFi network and let it do its thing. The app will kindly show you stats about your air quality and allow you to tweak the settings without touching the top panel of the device itself. There is also a filter life indicator letting you know when to change the filter, as well as the fantastic scheduling feature. So again, the Auto mode did not detect the absolute stinkiness of cat poop right after my cat does his thing. However, since he tends to use specific litter boxes at specific times of the day, I was able to make schedules to kick the 211i Max on full blast for at least 1 hour prior to using the gym in the morning so it wouldn't smell bad. And to its credit, though the Auto mode doesn't detect the smell, the purifier itself does an amazing job of getting rid of the odor within minutes. At full blast it's loud but far quieter than the sound of the treadmill, elliptical, or even the corner wall fans in the gym. The beige color is a matte, earthy neutral tone that looks very nice and makes me want to change out all my BLUEAIR products to match. For what it's worth, this air purifier may have been overkill for our home gym, but if you're going to be breathing heavily during a workout, you'd want the air you breathe to be clean and the 211i Max excels at that.

I’m really impressed with this air purifier. It feels well made, looks much nicer than the typical plain plastic air purifier, and is designed for larger spaces without being overly bulky. It runs quietly, especially on the lower settings, so it’s easy to leave running throughout the day or overnight without it becoming distracting. One of my absolute favorite features is the fabric filter cover. It’s completely removable and washable, which is such a practical design choice. Instead of letting pet hair, dust, and other debris build up on a surface that’s difficult to clean, you can simply remove the cover and wash it. I also love that replacement covers are available in different colors, so you can change the appearance to better match your room or decor. It makes the purifier feel much less like an appliance that you have to hide. The app and Wi-Fi features are another nice addition. Being able to check the air quality and adjust the settings from my phone is convenient, and the automatic mode makes it easy to let the purifier adjust itself as needed. I also appreciate that you can see the current air quality rather than just having to assume it’s working. The size is substantial enough for a larger room, but the rounded design and fabric exterior help it blend into the space nicely. The beige color in particular has a soft, neutral look that works well with home decor. Overall, this combines strong functionality with a much more attractive and practical design than most air purifiers I’ve seen. The quiet operation, smart features, large-room coverage, and especially the removable washable cover make it stand out. The option to swap the cover for a different color is an extra touch that I really love. This is the best purifier I’ve found that handles a lot of pet dander well without causing a big fuss with keeping it clean and always usable

This is my third blueair air purifier and all of them are very nice. I think this may end up being my favorite though. My children and I have horrible allergies, and with changing seasons every 5 minutes this year has been horrible for us. We went from fighting allergies and struggling to my kids now only having allergies when they're in the car or grandparents homes! Its been such a shock for me because I was so used to them coughing and sniffing during the night but now it's silent! We have it in a fairly small area (our upstairs where it's in the central area that splits to all the rooms), and I was worried because it's more closed off. I wasn't sure how well it would be able to circulate when most of the time the doors are closed. It's done a great job though, and I've noticed less dog smell (which used to be horrible), and we've had no issues with it getting into all the bedrooms. The set up is incredibly easy, it attaches to your phone without issue (I believe it needs to be 2.4GHz WIFI). I've always loved that about Blueair. I also LOVE how quiet it is! We have their other top model (the one that's a table as well) and that ones good and very quiet as well, but this one just seems to do better with removing odor and keeping pet dander out of the air. As long as you have a central place to put it, it seems to do a great job. Very happy we got a second for another floor. For our other one, we needed a small air purifier in our room which is very close to the purifier, but it wasn't getting any filtered air into our bedroom, I would not be worried about that with this one.

I don't really know how good this works except to take its word for it. The app says there are no particulates in my room, but it also said that when I first connected. So maybe this thing was unnecessary? I put it on auto but the fan stays on all the time. I think that's weird. It is very quiet when the fan runs at lowest level, and only gets a little louder. My biggest gripe is that it's about five times bigger than I expected. When they show a picture of it behind a phone, it's not to scale! It made me think it's the size of a bedroom trash can, but in reality it's the size of a kitchen trash can. That limits the places you can put it. Other air fresheners this size will sometimes put a gap over the fan output, then have a flat surface there so you can use it as a side table. This one just has the grill of the fan on top, you can't put anything there. My teenager was resting a foot on it the other day, which probably reduces the air quality immediately out of the fan. I have no safety concerns. The blue light is very bright, but you can put it in night mode and that light goes off, and the panel on top goes dim, so you could use it in a bedroom without too much light pollution.

I love Blueair air purifiers and I have one in almost every room of my house. This particular model is great because you can control it from your phone and check the air quality just by looking at the color indicator light, and it can change fan speeds automatically! I placed this 211i Max purifier in my kitchen/living room and it works amazingly for cooking smells, garbage smells, and just overall dog odor. I ordered the beige color and it doesn't necessarily match my home color theme, but it is a beautiful device and does not look like an eyesore. I have a semi-open concept living room/kitchen area and the whole area is quite large. The air purifier is strong enough to clean the air in my whole downstairs area, which consists of a kitchen and two large living room areas. It is not loud and noisy at all unless it is on the maximum setting, but I don't mind at all because it works extremely quickly and does not stay on the max setting for too long. I love the color indicator in the front, because I can quickly check the air quality. And it switches levels automatically based on how much pollution is in the air, so I just leave it on 24/7 and on automatic setting. I can actually tell that the air smells cleaner! It's a little expensive but I think it is worth it for the technology, and how simple it is to use.
