Two cats: One cats eats to live (female longhair, 10#, sweet but finicky) and the other (male, 12-13#, med hair, very confident, strong) lives to eat. Moist food in the morning and this in the afternoon ( a scant 1/4 c for female and scant 1/3 c for male). My goal is to feed them healthy food while keeping the cost reasonable. They love it. I was shopping for a weight management food for my three cats as the vet said they were overweight. Big plus as this is hairball management too as two of the cats are part Maine Coon. It took them a while to get used to the food as it was not as tasty to them as their previous food but everyone seems to be eating it. I'll see how they do at their next weigh in at the vet in six months. The food is not disappearing as fast as the last brand of cat food. One of the reasons I bought this food over other weight management foods was that some of the reviews mentioned they were feeding Maine Coon cats. I have seen a difference in the cat's fur. Their fur is fluffier, softer and less oil than it was on the other cat food. I'm not sure if that is a seasonal thing with the Maine Coon or not, but we will see. ... show more

I purchased the chicken weight control formula. Where to begin? On my initial sampling of this, I decided to pair it with a nice Sauvignon Blanc and just dig in. Well first off, the flavor is only barely reminiscent of chicken. It tastes more like a bullion cube than actual chicken. Except, it's not salty at all, like you might assume by the way it looks. Also, it has an almost-but-not-quite burnt flavor to it. Like toasted chicken maybe? The texture is just abhorrent too. It's so mealy and hard. This is the driest meat I've ever tasted, and there's something so deeply unsettling about your chicken crunching while you chew it. Can't even tell if this was white or dark meat. I couldn't believe this stuff made it to a shelf. A few days later, it occurred to me I was being a bit unfair to this product and perhaps didn't give it a fair shot. Cereal is best enjoyed with milk, so naturally eating it dry out of the bag won't be very representative of it's potential. I decided it was only right to give it another shot, so I hunkered down with a bowl and some 2% milk. Unfortunately... once again, I was sorely disappointed with the flavor profile. The milk somehow only accentuated the weird toasty flavor. The pieces do not absorb the milk very well either, and it really suffers from a complete lack of seasoning. While the idea of savory cereal is unique and intriguing, I'd say the makers of this still have a lot of kinks to work out! After sitting untouched in my pantry for about a week, a thought occurred... Perhaps it's no wonder my previous meal was so awful. Perhaps I'd been going about this all wrong? After all, I was just dumping the stuff in a bowl with cold milk in a bowl and stirring it up like a jackass. There were no preparation directions on the bag, but I took the instant oatmeal approach this time: I guessed and just mixed about 2/3 cup of dry cereal with 1/4 cup of water and heated it the microwave for 60 seconds. To my utter shock and delight, this was definitely an improvement over my last two meals! The taste was still remarkably bland, however the addition of heat and water created an interesting gravy/sauce for the chicken bits. The chicken reabsorbed some moisture and lost the disturbing crunch. Though, once you get towards the bottom of the bowl all the pieces start to turn to mush. Overall, I am not terribly impressed with this product. I got the 11lb bag since it was the most economical, so... I still have 10 meaty pounds of this junk left over!! I suppose I'll just feed it to my cats. For some reason they seem to love the stuff and it controls their hairballs pretty well. ... show more

worth it, even though this is expensive cat food. i was sent a bag by mistake, so of course i used it and ALL 8 inside cats (7mo-15yrs) ate it w/o any issues...NONE! fast-forward through months of bargain shopping, barfballs, stinky litterboxes and i keep going back to 'THIS ORANGE bag' reluctantly due to it's $$... WHY?... they actually eat less! their fur is shiny & slicker, they don't graze all day, they are more energetic and best of all- the aftermath doesn't smell half as overwhelming as (so far) all the 'other' brands they've been subjected to, (and several of them don't like to cover! i use Tractor Supply's equine pine pellets (LESS than $6/40lb bag!) (scoop poo/flush and the urine turns pellets to sawdust- i use shifter pan only (see below) w/ looped zip ties in the side holes to tip/lift/bounce to shift- it fits perfect in a Sterilite 58Qt tub for my high peeing cats, i'll add another scoop of pellets when needed (about 2" deep, just dump out the sawdust/ wipe once a week (smells like fresh construction sawdust/ barn :)... instead of the old-heavy dusty/floral/ 30lb ammonia clumps concreted to the bottom of the box!) i've been a frugal bargain shopper trying all kinds of brands & prices to keep the budget balanced when it comes to critters my kiddos have rescued along their childhood. this is nowhere near a deal by price, BUT it helps when the benefits are: i'm not going through as much food since: they fill up, chew up, don't barf up and don't stink up! just chalk it up as 1-less family dinner out/ month for the humans to keep the funds balanced :) hope this helps anyone else that loves their critters, but still has to pay the bills and feed the family! amazon- $15.59 Blue/GrayVan Ness CP5 Sifting Cat Pan/Litter Box with Frame- using sifter only (donate the rest:) 58Q Sterilite Clear storage tote (walmart ~ $6) TS - 40lb Equine Pellets Blue Buffalo Wilderness - high protein/grain free - ORANGE Bag ... show more
