I've had bad luck with the lava lite brand since they outsourced to China. I thought all China lamps must be bad as well, but I saw some good pics here on Amazon and decided to take a chance. The wax blobs into different size shapes and floats up and down in a very mesmerizing pattern. I have it on my desk at work. The media could not be loaded. I am so disappointed in the quality of this lava lamp. I purchased one of these and it arrived broken. The packaging was awful. The lamp was dented and none of these pieces were wrapped. Everything had just been thrown into the box. The base of the lamp bulb was wobbly and barely hanging on wheni pulled it out of the box. I attempted to place it in the lamp hoping it would still work but it did not. When I realized this I went to take the bulb out and the base broke away from the bulb and remained lodged in the lamp. I returned this lamp hoping it was just an outlier and ordered a replacement. It arrived the next day. This lamp was still slightly dented but the other pieces were wrapped up and in good condition. We plugged the lamp in turned it on and waited for it to heat up so my kids could see it work. About 45 minutes later my son brought me over to look at the lamp and some type of spring had broken free inside the glass of the lamp. I returned this one as well and will not be ordering another. Poor packaging and quality control. I wouldn't recommend this product and I will not be ordering from this seller again. ... show more

I admit that the description says it is 13", but that is counting the base and the bottle. The bottle is roughly the same size as a 12 oz beer or soda glass bottle. The socket for the bulb was bent so far over that the bulb wouldn't screw in. I carefully straightened the socket as best as I could with my finger. It still works after all of that but I'm not as satisfied with my purchase as I was expecting. You can tell this brand is made as cheaply as possible. Knowing all of this now, I wouldn't buy again. I will still use it and i'm not saying it's terrible. That being said, I would suggest to seek elsewhere if you want a higher quality lava lamp. ... show more
