So I thought my solar panel was not working because my batteries died. Blink support said to open the solar panel battery compartment to get the serial number. When I did that, I saw the plastic battery pull tab that needed to be removed to engage the battery. It does not stick out of the unit like these things normally do, I'm guessing because of the water-tight seal. When I RE-read the instructions, it does say to open the battery compartment to remove this. Since I just glanced at the pictures, cuz the unit is pretty straight-forward, I did not see this. Duh.     • Camera is fine! Solar panels never worked.

I bought three of these and it was a waste of money. Te solar panels are crap and never recharge the internal battery. I have to run these off lithium and change them every three weeks. Wish I never bought them. Updated 7/24/2023 Blink rep reached out to me regarding my review. Explained the problem and told him it was the solar panels. He wanted to send new rechargeable batteries first. OK. Replaced batteries and same problem. Finally agreed to replace the solar panels. That was 2 weeks ago and so far no problems. The battery pack within the mount itself does hold its charge for a while but the solar panel doesn't do its job - i have had to recharge the 18650 battery 3x on my own already. When I first figured what was happening I was already way past the return window. When I asked support for help and then a repair/replacement, the dumba...s will give you the run around, absolutely dodge the issue. You will lose your $200 on this, its practically a scam. If you are shopping wireless cameras altogether, take Blink off your list they're absolute losers. Spread the word UPDATE 5/16/23 Months into first receiving the panels, I noticed the batteries discharging yet not recharging in the sun. At first I figured to be issues local to me - tree cover, consecutive cloudy days, a need to reconnect the usb. I followed Blink's FAQ online to no avail. However their helpdesk reps were also no help, which led to the 1-star rating. However this caught the attention of another rep who followed the issues alongside with me. I am updating out of a 1 star because I was finally able to communicate with a rep who helped me resolve my issues even if it ultimately led to replacements. However I am shorting the 5-star because: 1) *Both panels at the start were lemons which was a red flag, 2) the first help desk reps offered no help and either a) ignored my questions or b) possibly out of lack of training, sidestepped my followups, which i saw as another red flag. However 3) after I was talked out of ruling it as a scam, I am now more inclined to believe there are some engineering issues in the design somehow. It's possible investing in replacement rechargeable, button-top 18650 batteries could offer a possible resolution in charging issues similar to mine but then its a shame that this might already have to be an option when the panel is new. A 5-star would go to the rep who helped. The replacements work fine and as described, and are now suiting my original purposes as intended ... show more
