Frequently asked questions

To set the time on your BLACK+DECKER digital microwave, first make sure the oven is in standby mode. Press the 'Clock' button and then use the number pad to input the current time. You might need to press 'Clock' or 'Start' again to confirm the time, depending on your model. The display should then show the time you set.

Yes, the turntable in the microwave can be easily stopped or removed for cleaning. To stop the turntable from rotating, press the turntable on/off button if your model has one. To remove it, simply lift the turntable up. It's recommended to clean it with mild detergent and warm water, dry carefully, and ensure it's correctly positioned back on its track before using.

To activate the child safety lock on your microwave, press and hold the 'Stop' or 'Cancel' button for about 3 seconds. The display usually shows a lock symbol or an 'L' to indicate the lock is active. To deactivate, press and hold the same button for another 3 seconds until the lock symbol disappears. Refer to your specific model's manual as these instructions can vary.

Safe materials for your microwave include microwave-safe plastics, glass, ceramic, and paper products. Avoid using metal objects, aluminum foil, or dishes with metallic paint or trim. Always check for a microwave-safe label on your containers or dishes. If in doubt, you can perform a safety test by microwaving the item by itself for a short time with a cup of water inside the oven as well; if the item heats up, it's not safe to use.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The BLACK+DECKER Digital Microwave Oven garners mixed reviews, highlighting its blend of efficient functionality and sleek design with some operational frustrations. Users have praised the microwave for its modern stainless steel appearance, easy-to-use digital controls, and features like the push-button door and child safety lock. It's noted for fitting well in small spaces and performing key tasks— reheating, defrosting, and cooking—adequately and quietly. However, concerns about the sensitivity of the touch panel, the lightweight nature causing it to slide on countertops, and some models being underpowered are notable.

Pros

  • 🍽️ Sleek stainless steel design
  • 👶 Child safety lock feature for added security
  • 🕒 Efficient and quick heating with various models rated at 700W to 1000W
  • 👂 Relatively quiet operation
  • 📐 Fits well in small spaces, suitable for places like assisted living kitchenettes

Cons

  • ⚠️ Touch panel may not respond well, needing multiple attempts to activate
  • 🚚 Lightweight design can cause the microwave to slide on the countertop
  • 🔋 Some models may be underpowered than advertised
  • ➖ Lacks a reheat button, which might be an inconvenience for some users

Should I Buy It?

The BLACK+DECKER Digital Microwave Oven offers a compelling mix of style, functionality, and compact design, making it a suitable option for small to medium-sized kitchens, office spaces, or dorm rooms. If the highlighted cons, such as the sensitive touch panel or the sliding issue, are minor for you or can be readily fixed, it stands as a solid purchase. Its performance, primarily for routine tasks, and additional features like the child lock, contribute to its appeal. Judge your needs carefully; if you prioritize aesthetics and basic functionality over high-powered performance, this could be a great fit for your kitchen.

  • Perfect size microwave
Size: 0.7 Cu.ft
I love this small microwave. It is perfect for quick warm ups. Nice and compact, but large enough for a dinner plate to fit inside. However, my large coffee from Dunkin Donuts is too tall and does not fit. Very reliable and I love the classic look. The touch for the buttons are stiff and takes a little pressure when selecting your setting, but you will adjust quickly to the touch. I’m very happy with this product. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: 1.4 Cu.ft
I picked this microwave because Consumer Reports rates Black and Decker highly for reliability, and this one was a good price. I saved more by purchasing it “like new” from Amazon Warehouse, knowing I had a short warranty. It IS like new and we have had no problems with it. It’s easy to use and makes no more noise than our old one. ... show more

  • Well Designed Compact Microwave -- Note Low Power
Size: 0.7 Cu.ft
This is a nice small microwave. I cant fault it for what it is -- I let the dimensions of the unit take priority over its power. Stepping down from .9 cu ft to .7 cu ft is just about doable -- tho a regular size dinner plate will often jam against the unit wall as the turntable spins -- but 700 watts is really low power compared to 900 or 1000. Again my fault, live and learn. Reheating leftovers in our old Magic Chef microwave maybe 1:30 to 3:00 with this unit it can take 5-6 minutes. The plate or bowl will get hot before the food! 2 plates back to back and the top of the unit is getting warm. Still this would be a great dorm room microwave for reheating coffee. ... show more

  • Nice simple microwave with reasonable power
Size: 1.1 Cu.ft
Keys 1-6 are instant on by minutes. The start button increments by 30 seconds. So for a cup of hot water for tea you can press start 3 times (from zero). The size is just large enough. Ours replaces a much larger 1200 watt microwave that reported an electronic fault and died. So far not missing the size difference at all. Just adjusting the cook time upwards to compensate for 5/6 th the power. The carousel is 12 inches diameter and fits our microwave safe full size dinnerware and all our glass serving and storage containers except the very largest...which is no great loss since we hardly ever used them. Cooking seems even and it is fairly quiet. Less the half the cost on Amazon of the exact same Panasonic model to the one that died (although that one lasted ten years so we got our values worth nevertheless), so very economical. It has a variety of specialty features such as sensing which we haven't tried so no comment. ... show more

  • Very happy with this model
Size: 1.4 Cu.ft
I purchased this microwave for friends who aren't able to get out. The small oven they had ceased to function, and they entrusted me to pick a new one. I looked at many ovens before making a decision. I was so happy to hear this was a hit. It fit well on the counter, has stainless steel which they find attractive, and bigger buttons that are easier to use. I waited a bit to write this review to make sure they were happy with it; they are. ... show more

  • Buttons hard to press, makes microwave slide around constantly
Size: 0.9 Cu.ft
This microwave isn't great. It looks nice and is small if that's what you need, but past that not so great. The buttons do not register with a touch, they need a hard press (both my wife and I so it's not just me). Since the microwave is so light, it then slides on our shelf. Even opening and closing the door makes the microwave move around. It is also woefully underpowered. I know it says 900 watts, but there is no was. Our old microwave heated my neti pot water in 22 seconds, this one takes 35 seconds. We are returning it even though we got it on sale for just $65. ... show more

  • Trusted brand, great price.
Size: 0.9 Cu.ft
My old microwave broke without warning; it wouldn’t heat at all (probably the magnetron) but otherwise ran normally. Being 10 years old, it wasn’t worth it to get repaired so I needed a new but good one in a pinch. Black & Decker is known for their dependable products and for $100, the 900W, .9 cubic foot size was exactly what I needed. My old one was slightly larger with 100W but it really didn’t make a difference to me, since the next size was more than I wanted it needed to spend. I don’t use microwaves as much as I used to but it’s nice to have one you know will last. ... show more
