  • Light weight and works better than I expected!
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
I live in Phoenix on an acre parcel and most of it is in desert landscape. Therefore no formal lawn to mow. Yaaa. However when it rains here the weeds grow, well like weeds. Fast and furious. This year we had lots of rain and lots of weeds. I've been running a battery powered weed eater every day for a week or so. My back is aching from twisting sideways back and forth so it was time to look for a better solution. I figured how about a small battery powered lawn mower and then I found this thing at about half the cost. So figuring I'd probably junk it after a couple tries I decided to give it a try. Really glad I did. Soon as it arrived I put it together and out I went. It had just rained again and everything was wet but I had to try it. Worked perfectly. Knocked down and chewed up everything I ran it over and no extra back pain as a bonus. I charged up the batteries( comes with 2) overnight and set out to do a good cleanup the next day. This thing is a real delight. It runs about 20 minutes on each battery and since the batteries are fairly small you can carry the spare one in your pocket. another thing about the batteries is the way they eject from the tool. Push the button on the battery and it pops out of the tool's battery compartment. I mention this because removing the battery from my other "green" weed eater is a real chore You have to push in 2 tabs, one on each side of the battery, and forcibly pull it from the tool. My wife can't even manage doing it and I barely can, often resorting to prying it loose with a screwdriver while pushing the tabs with both hands. The black and decker baterries just eject with 1 hand by pushing the button, I love it. When you get close to a fence or wall and the platform won't get close enough, the weed wacker removes from the deck instantly by stepping on a lever on the deck and lifting the handle of the weed wacker forward and up. To return it back in the deck reverse the process, simple and easy. Keep in mind this is a regular string trimmer. It is not a bladed lawn mower and does not do the job of a bladed lawn mower It is a string trimmer on wheels. because you push it similar to vacuming a carpet , front and back, front and back, instead of constantly twisting sideways it doesn't put the strain on your arms and back liike a regular string trimmer does. It does not mulch as fine as a mower would and if you have tall weeds or grass as I did you will need to make several passes, as you would with any string trimmer except you don't have to hold it up, just push it back and forth. I have not had to replace the line yet so I cannot comment on that, except to say looking at it, it looks like the exact same process as the other 2 trimmers I have. To clear the bottom of the deck I simply remove the trimmer and wash out the deck with a hose. its been coated with wet grass almost every time I finish. I'm sure dry shorter vegetation will cut much easier. I'm cutting damp weeds and bermuda grass about knee high. The deck is light weight plastic but seems durable enough. If the deck should deteriorate and I have to replace it, the replacement cost of the set is about the same as a different manufacture's string trimmer alone. but I'll worry about that if it happens. so far I have no regrets whatsoever. ... show more

  • It really works wonderfully
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
This is one of the best things I ever purchased, I love it, it cuts my grass good and it is as easy as running my sweeper, not heavy at all and it’s nice not to have the gas smell using a gas mower, I will always use this and I was unsure at first if it would good but it’s amazing, thank’s Black + Decker for making my life easer, also I had a weed wacker that the trimmer line was hard to change and the string kept breaking but not this one, it’s easy to put a new one on and no problem with the trimmer line, us women can handle this product with no problem. ... show more

  • Recommend this lawn edger and...
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
This is a non-sponsored review. I purchased and have been using this edger for about two years now. Knowing its quirks, I would buy it again for my lawn care activities. Pros: easy to use and carry; light weight design; does a good job edging and trimming the the lawn; replacing the edging string is straight forward; excellent customer service Areas for improvement: the batteries did not hold much charge after the first year; sometimes, the edger becomes disengaged from its mower case when mowing the lawn and I have to stop and reattach it (simple fix but kind of inconvenient) ... show more

  • BEST MOWER BEST MOWER
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
DEFINITELY AN EXCELLENT BUY. THE DESIGN IS TINY, AND WILL MAKE YOU DOUBT IF IT WOULD BE POWERFUL ENOUGH WELL IT IS. I HAD MEASURED MY YARD IN DIFFERENT ARES TO MAKE IT EASY FOR EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH SPACE YOU WILL COVER WITH THIS YARD. MY BACKYARD MEASURES 25 FT BY 10 FT. IF I DID ONLY THIS PART THE BATTERY SHOULD VA LASTED FOR ME TO MOW THE VERY HIGH GRASS THAT I HAD SINCE MY GAS POWERED MOWER DIED AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO MOW IT UNTIL I DO SOME RESEARCH AND FINALLY BOUGHT THIS UNIT. THE MOWER COMES WITH 2 BATTERIES WHICH LAST FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES EACH. KEEP IN MIND THAT MY GRASS WAS WET SO IT MADE IT WORK A LITTLE BIT HARDER. SO IF YOU HAVE A YARD THIS SIZE IT SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR YOU TO MOW ON 1 BATTERY AND TRIM IT AFTER THAT. I WOULD NOT SUGGEST USING THIS MACHINE ON WET GRASS, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A WELL BUILT MACHINE IT MAKES IT HARDER FOR YOU TO MOW SPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE NOT MOWED FOR A GOOD PERIOD OF TIME. SO GOING BACK TO MY YARD SIZE I MEASURED NE PART (THE BACKYARD 25 X 10 FT) THE SMALL FRONT YARD, 8 FT BY 8 FT THE OTHER PART OF THE FRONT YARD 25FT BY 6 FT AND THE OTHER PART OF THE FRONT YARD 15 FT BY 7 FT. I THOUGHT THAT MY YARD WAS SMALL COMPARED TO MY OLDER SINGLE FAMILY HOME WHICH HAS A HUGE YARD. NOW I LIVE IN A TOWNHOUSE CORNER LOT SO THE YARD IS MUCH BIGGER THAN INSIDE TOWNHOMES. ALSO FOR TALL GRASS YOU WILL HAVE TO MOVE IT BACK AND FORWARD BECAUSE AS I SAID IT IS TALL AND JUST LIKE A GAS POWERED MOWER THAT YOU HAVE TO MOVE IT SLOW OR IT WILL GET STUCK, THIS ONE CAN OVERHEAT AND YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR UNIT. I GUESS YOU WILL BASICALLY MAKE THE MOVES LIKE IF YOU ARE VACUUMING A HOUSE, THIS IMPORTANT STEP MAKES YOUR LIFE EASY. HANDLE IS EASY AND COMPACT ENOUGH FOR YOU TO NOT NEED TO PUSH LIKE THE HEAVIER GAS POWERED ONES. THE ONLY CON IS THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING AND YOU CAN EASILY GET TIRED BUT IT IS NOT A DEAL BREAKER. IT ALSO HAS A AUTO FEED SYSTEM SO LIKE OTHER TRIMMERS YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP FEEDING THE LINE ONCE IT GOES OFF, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY FEED ITSELF BUT ONCE IN A WHILE IT MAY GET STUCK OR THROW TOO MUCH LINE AND YOU HAVE TO STOP AND CORRECT IT. TO CORRECT IT TAKE THE CAP OF THE FEEDER AND MOVE IT WHILE PULLING IT A BIT OUT COUNTERCLOCK WISE UNTIL YOU ARE LEFT WITH LITTLE LINE ABOUT 2 INCHES THEN YOU PLUG IT BACK IN. YOU HAVE TO PLAY WITH IT SO YOU KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. I WAS MOWING MY GRASS WITH MY SPEAKERS ON AT 6 AM, AND MY WIFE SIAD THAT SHE COULD HEAR MY MUSIC BUT SHE COULDN'T HEAR THE MOWER SO IT IS PRETTY QUIET, SHE IS VERY SENSITIVE WHEN IT COMES TO NOISE SO IT MUST BE VERY QUIET. ANOTHER PRO IS THAT YOU WILL NOT GET AS NASTY AS YOU DO WITH A GAS POWERED ONE. REASON FOR THIS IS THAT SINCE IT IS SO TINY IT DOESN'T MOW AS MUCH AS A REGULAR GAS AND HAS LESS POWER THAT IT DOESN'T THROW TO MUCH AT YOU. REMEBER THAT WHEN YOU MOW YOU GET ALL GREENISH, WELL THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN I POSTED PICTURES OF MY SOCKS AFTER MOWING A LOT OF GRASS EVEN ON WET. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO USES GLOVES OR A BRUSH TO GET THE GRASS AT THE BOTTOM, JUST LIKE A GAS PWOERED ONE YOU WILL ACCUMULATE GRASS UNDER THE TRIMMER AND YOU WILL HAVE TO STOP AND MAKE A CLEAN JUST TO BE SAFE AND NOT TO OVERHEAT THE UNIT. IT IS VERY LIGHTWEIGHT EASY TO USE AND A PERFECT REPLACEMENT FOR A GAS POWERED ONE, I M GIVING FIVE STARS BECAUSE IT DOESN'T DESERVE TO GET LESS BECAUSE OF THE CONS THAT IT HAS. NO MAJOR ISSUES. IF PEOPLE GIVE IT LESS THAN 5 STARS IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT USING IT ON WHAT I WAS MADE FOR.....SMALL LAWNS...... AS YOU CAN SEE ON MY PICTURES MY LAWN WAS VERY TALL IT WAS MORE THAN 12 INCHES, BUT THE MOWER DID A GOOD JOB AND DID NOT WEAKENED AT ANY POINT. BATTERY DOES NOT LAST AS LONG AS IT SAYS BUT HEY IT IS WAY ABOVE AVERAGE IT LASTED MORE THAN I WAS EXPECTING IT. I WAS ONLY EXPECTING IT TO RUN FOR 10 MINUTES ON EACH BATTERY. I WAS ALSO EXPECTING IT TO EAT A LOT OF THE LINE CUTTER BUT IT DIDN'T YOU HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND THAT ON A GAS PWOERED YOU HAVE TO SPEND ON OIL, GAS MAINTENANCE AND HOPE THAT NOTHING HITS THE BALDES BECAUSE AS SOON AS THEY ARE TORN YOU ARE OUT OF A MOWER. MAKING THE MATH IT WILL BE ABOUT THE SAME BUT WITH THE CONVENIENCE OF A MUCH SMALLER MOWER THAT YOU CAN HANG ON ANY WALL YOU HAVE USED FOR TOOLS. I HOPE MY REVIEW HELPS BUYER AND DEFINITELY IT IS WORTH THE TRY. GREAT QUALITY BUT REMEMBER IT WILL BE BEST FOR SMALL LAWNS BUT YOU CAN USE IT ON LARGER AREAS BUT IT WILL REQUIRE YOU TO WORK A BIT MORE. PROS ... show more

  • Weed wacker good-trolley a miss
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
The weed wacker part is great, light weight, works well-battery life about 15 min, but comes with 2 batteries. The edger feature isn't that great-you weed wack your edge so not a clean look. The trolley part-it's a waste. It is light weight and rolls smoothly but it's not a good cut-it's weed wacking your lawn on wheels. I have 2 small strips of lawn and honestly, it took longer to go back and forth like a weed wacker than to fire up the mower and knock it out. So it is light weight and I like the weed wacker feature but I wouldn't recommend the trolley part and you will need a better edger to get a clean look. Not a very long battery life-maybe 15 minutes ... show more

Needed to replace the trimmer. Have had one for years. Plastic doesn’t last as we all know. This unit was the only replacement I could find. Since I had batteries and charger I only needed trimmer. I ended up getting this. It works great for me. And very easy to convert. Trimmer is identical to my old one. Now I have 4 batteries, two chargers plus the rolling unit. My trimmer is used a lot. Im very pleased with this combo. ... show more

  • Dont bother unless you get 3 year warranty otherwise you will buy it again Dont bother unless you get 3 year warranty otherwise you will buy it again
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
2 years later is guaranteed garbage: engine gear to spin the spool is made of plastic and will wear off. I used youtube. Called black and decker. The piece is $20 but I can't dismantle it. I called B & D, they want me to go get it serviced... but it is 1h30 from me. So between a tank of gas at $50 (if they repair it on the spot), labor and material.... I am better off buying a new one to get the same problem in 2 years because the gear is made of PLASTIC and not metal. So if you want to enslave yourself... black and decker has plastic gears that will strip against metal. (Or get a 3 year warranty). ... show more

  • Great alternative for small yards and limited storage space
Style: 3-in-1 Mower Only
I just finished the first use of the Black & Decker mower-trimmer combo. I decided to give it a try after a few years of paying a service to mow my lawn. I felt I was paying too much for something I could do myself. Unfortunately, the gas mower I had used for several years prior was no longer working -- probably due to sitting unused for four years. I considered paying to have it fixed, but I decided to check out other options. I have a very small, one car garage, and the lawn mower takes up a lot of space and is only used four months of the year. Maintenance is challenging since the mower will not fit in my car and I do not know someone locally with a truck. Also, I dislike having to keep gas cans in my garage and usually end up with leftover gas that sits there and gets old. Anyway, I saw this combo tool and thought it might be a reasonable solution. I do have quite a bit of yard -- more than this tool is really intended for -- but it is broken up into two small yards and several stripps of grass along the sidewalk and curb on a corner lot. I do not need to do all of the mowing at once. This tool was easy to put together -- slide on the handle and the guard, and one screw. The trimmer snaps in and out of the trolley with ease. The batteries take six hours each to charge so that is a long time if you are eager to get going, but you just need to make sure to charge them up after use so they are ready to go the next time. It took one battery to mow and trim one yard (approx. 30 X 15) and two small strips. The second battery got me through the second yard (30 x 20) and one large strip. I had to recharge and finish the rest -- 3 large strips with edging all around -- the next day. That took one battery plus starting on a second battery. I wanted to use up that battery so that I could recharge it before the next mowing, so I went around and did touchups of the edging and trimmed down patches where the grass was higher. Being the first mow of the season, the grass was high and thick and there was a lot of edging to do, so I am pleased that I was able to complete it all with only the one recharge. I expect that I will be able to complete most maintenance mowings (no edging) with just two batteries as long as I don't let the grass get too long. With all of the work, I was still on the first string when I finished! All in all, I am happy with this choice and look forward to putting the money I save by doing the work myself to better use. One reviewer described it like vacuuming the lawn and that is exactly what it is like. I use more short, back-and-forth motions rather than mowing long stretches along the length of the lawn. Definitely have to hose everything off before storage. pros: inexpensive; easy to use and to store; lightweight (easily lifted with one hand); cons: have to apply continuous pressure on the power button which leaves a red, sore spot on the hand; requires multiple passes over heavy growth areas; does not pick up leaves or small twigs as a power mower does so separate cleanup is needed for that. Since I did not have to install a new string, I cannot yet comment on that. I hope it will be easier than my experience with the Weed Eater. ... show more
