  • Washes dishes like a champion!
Color: White Style: Countertop
Last week, after over 20 years of loyal service, our Kenmore dishwasher turned in it's retirement papers and set sail for Tahiti. Since Sears is almost non-existent now, and the Kenmore brand has been sold off, we started looking at a smaller dishwasher for our unit in our family four-plex. Enter Black & Decker, which is a name I have worked with for years on power tools, but was unfamiliar that they now offer countertop dishwashers. I had looked at some other dishwashers with lower price points but the problem was I only have 18 inches of space between the counter and the bottom of the cabinets so I knew I needed something that would fit in that space. This guy is 17.25 " high. So that's workable for us. So after it arrived it was on to the next step, installing it. Could not have been easier. Two hoses and a power cord. The hoses are two different sizes so that makes it more easier. So the first thing I did was attach the hoses to the back of the unit. A couple of words of advice here: 1. Use either Teflon Plumbers Tape or Teflon pipe dope ( I used Teflon pipe dope) on the threads all around. This will help prevent any sort of leakage. 2. DO NOT use brute force to attach the connectors or you could strip the threads, and then that would be a serious issue. Tighten them hand tight and then a 1/4 turn more. Once you have attached the hoses to the machine, then attach them to the quick connector unit. Then attach it to the faucet adapter. The unit comes with a faucet adapter that SHOULD fit almost any faucet with a replaceable aerator, whether it's inside or out. After I connected the connector to the faucet adapter I slowly turned on the hot water so that I could check for leaks. NONE The unit has 7 cycle programs so you should be able to find one that suits you best. Now keep in mind that this unit holds 6 place settings at max, so plan appropriately. And just like the full size units, you will need to spray the dishes first. There will be some items that you cannot wash in it, such as big pots and pans, but I never used the old dishwasher for that anyhow. Oh and the best advice of all I can give you? READ THE MANUAL. The unit comes with manual, faucet adapter and inlet and drain hoses and weighs about 47 pounds. This works for us since we don't entertain in our unit that much, leaving that instead for our big kitchen and outdoor area for our dinner meals with all of our kids and grandkids. I give it 5 stars up. Hope you enjoy it! ... show more

This is a 4th update since I have been using this between early December 2018 and mid-April 2019. Cleans well. Helps to wipe food off dishes with a paper towel over your trashcan, the load dishes and pots. I am using the cleaning pods, generally only one per cycle, and the dishes still come out immaculate. I would use this same procedure with a full sized dishwasher, however, since I don't like to see or smell the food traps building up with food debris in the first place. About once a month, I run a cycle on vinegar only, no dishes, no soap, just to keep it extra clean and smelling fresh. All in all, this is a superior product. I hate washing dishes by hand when an apartment has not DW, so this product has been a real boon to me and given me time and freedom back. The dishes and glasses come out so clean on the 45 minute cycle, including pots and pans that have been wiped with a paper towel first, that I know I am eating off of and cooking with clean dishes and cookware. Skip doing dishes by hand - buy this product instead. This is a third update: About 25 dish washing cycles later, this product continues to perform well and reliably. I use the 45 minute setting symbolized by the glass/cup icon, which does an admirable air dry of the dishes. I am amazed how clean the dishes come out. I recommend using this particular cycle for most of your average needs and save the lengthier cycles for the heavy duty washing. However, I recommend that you routinely wipe any food particles from cookware and dishes first before loading the dishes for cleaning. This keeps the filters clean and is a small price to pay for keeping the dishwasher performing at optimal level. I also recommend that you check the hose fittings once a week just to ensure they are secure in place, and that you use the dishwasher when you are home to monitor or at least be there if any hose slips out of place. So far, all hoses have remained secure in place, and I do not anticipate this will be a problem. If you are thinking about buying a countertop dishwasher, I highly recommend you consider buying this product. Black + Decker designed an excellent product here. Update to the review below: I have run about 12 loads so far since getting the device. It is performing well and cleaning the dishes beautifully, plus sanitizing them in the process. I still recommend that you run the dishwasher only when you are home to monitor - water discharges frequently through the quick connect faucet valve, several times during the cycle, and I think it is important to be around to verify that hoses are still tightly connected. So far, hoses have stayed put, and I don't anticipate problems. I do plan to sanitize the dishwasher once a week with running a short cycle with a splash of white vinegar and a tablespoon of baking soda in it, while empty. This will keep the dishwasher sanitized itself and help ensure the quick connect faucet unit remains clean. This dishwasher has given me my kitchen back - there is no more backlog of dirty dishes to wash by hand. I can now load the dishwasher with dirty dishes daily, and run later in the week as needed. This beats washing dishes by hand by many orders of magnitude. No more washing dishes by hand here! I just hooked my new unit up yesterday and ran a first load. The dishes were immaculate after the wash cycle - something that cannot be attained by washing them by hand. And, they are sanitized as well. The dishwasher came well packed, and it nice looking - however, it is all white with a stainless front handle. Even so, it still looks good in the kitchen. The product is well designed and well built. Remember to have teflon tape handy when you hook up the adapter to your faucet, much like you would use when switching shower heads in the bathroom. The teflon tape secures the threads in place. I babysat the first load yesterday to become accustomed to what it does when during the wash cycle - and I am babysitting the 2nd load now, again to become familiar with how the dishwasher operates, when it discharges water throughout the cycle, etc. I do recommend that in an apartment or condo building, that you run the unit only when you are at home, so that you can monitor hoses to make sure they are staying in place under water pressure. I also don't mind having to remove large bits of food from dishware before loading - I hate doing dishes by hand (there are no dishwashers in apartments in my building), so I am happy to live with this minor inconvenience for the bigger convenience of it cleaning my dishes wonderfully. Now, I can get my kitchen back in shape! I will write a second review later after I have used it for a few weeks. I expect I will continue to be impressed. So, I recommend you buy this product - it is number 2 in the list of top 10 countertop dishwashers, and I bought it because Black & Decker is a manufacturer I have trusted for years. ... show more

  • Inexpensive dishwasher that gets the job done
Color: Black Style: Stainless + Plastic Tub
I needed a cheap washer, as I was so over hand washing. Sure, we had paper plates and plastic utensils, but they don't make paper pots and pans... This dishwasher was pretty simple to install, HOWEVER, the bottom has some plastic frame thing as opposed to aluminum rails, so routing the water line was different from my old machine, and I had to pop my water line under the floor (extra cutting on the subfloor) to get it to fit, but that minor gripe aside, I'm happy. The dishwasher works well, and cleans well, but it could probably use some jet dry or similar drying enhancer, as everything comes out wet, or at least damp, even with heated dry, and leaving the dishes overnight. I'm not sure what the "auto" feature actually does, as it doesn't have any sensors I'm aware of, and if you set it to auto, it is always the exact same timer and wash program. (I tested with simple dishes, like plates and glasses, and again with pots and pans well rinsed, AND not rinsed (for testing only) and it changed nothing whatsoever.) It's a huge step up from hand washing, and I was close to just burning my kitchen down just to avoid dishes. If you need a dishwasher on a budget, you can definitely do worse than this. Overall, I'm happy. I don't have to hand wash everything anymore. Oh, and the top rack has 2 available positions, for taller or shorter glassware and "delicates" ... show more
