It is required for it to sit without plugging it in for about 72 hours total to allow the oil and refrigerant to resettle as it shifts around when being moved around warehouses and delivery vehicles. This is a very sweet unit! So far, it is working very well keeping temperature. Its small size makes it very unassuming, and it is also very quiet. My only quibble is that there is no place other than the bottom of the freezer that will accommodate standard ice trays. This isn't much of a bother in the end, though. I bought this unit because the freezer on my refrigerator was on the blink. Now that this has been remedied, I no longer need to keep ice trays in this little freezer. Yesterday, a refrigerator was delivered to me. When I took it out of the box, I found it badly damaged, with dents on the casing. During the night, it started to smell like something was burning, and there was a loud noise, as if something inside had exploded.
