My bedroom ceiling fan died this summer. I live in a hot climate, where a ceiling fan being out of commission is not a problem you can comfortably ignore. I took a chance on this fan just to have a quick replacement until I deal with the ceiling fan. Now we're in October and fixing the ceiling fan has been put off repeatedly because this thing is better than the ceiling fan in my opinon. Remote control is a nice extra. It will turn fan on or off, has a separate button that cycles through 3 fan speeds, and a timer button that seems to start a "turn off in 30 minutes" countdown--I can't say as I run it all night. You might want a button to control oscillation, but there's where you're out of luck. I'm assuming that this saves money, and honestly, it doesn't really matter to me -- who is switching between direct fan and oscillating fan over and over anyhow? Just having the remote and adjusting speed from bed is the best part. Noise. It isn't quiet even on lowest speed. If you watch TV at night in your bedroom, you are going to have to turn up the TV and/or turn down the fan most likely. Again, to me this is an easy compromise for live-preserving breezes. Assembly was pretty easy. Attaching the stand pieces together didn't really need instructions if you've ever put anything with a telescoping base together before, but there are instructions. You'll need to attach the fan blade and secure it with a nut, and you'll need to patiently work the front cover of the fan into place to keep fingers out of the spinning blade. This was the longest part of the build because it kept popping loose when I almost had it secured. Maybe I just wasn't good at it :-) It certainly wasn't annoying enough to detract from recommending the fan. All in all, it has outlived my intended use for it, and shows no issues. I've come to like it better than the ceiling fan, and the noise kinda fades into the background (I'm usually running on medium or low). If I ever fix the ceiling fan this will be a nice addition to the garage-workshop. If.

I’m really happy with my purchase! The packaging was easy to open and the assembly directions were clear. It was pretty easy to put together. The metal cage around the fan blade comes in two circular halves and requires pushing the two together until they snap in. One of the circular halves was a little bent/distorted from shipping which made this a challenge, but it was possible to do with a little effort. I’ve caught my finger in the fan blade at full speed and survived to tell the tale with no injury so I’m pleased with its safety. The four cats in my house have yet to knock the fan over which is a testimony to how sturdy it is while still being light enough for me to easily move it around. The fan at the top bends down and up easily and the height can be adjusted although it’s kind of a pain to do. It comes with a remote to change the fan level but you cant change the setting from rotating 180 degrees to a still position from the remote. You have to physically pull/push a plug at the top of the fan. It’s not silent but it’s quiet enough to sleep with it on. Overall pretty good.

I got this BLACK+DECKER 16 in. Stand Fan with Remote Control earlier this year (in May 2018) after the Honeywell HS-1655 QuietSet 16" Stand Fan that I had got in June 2016, had started failing after less than a year, by the following spring, becoming very unpredictable in whether it would work or not. Sometimes it'd just shut off for no reason — and and more often than not, if it was off and I turned it on, the fan would just NOT start up, even though it was turned on, and properly plugged in and everything. Eventually, that fan conked out COMPLETELY at the end of July 2017. Yet, I decided not to replace it right away, even though, because of various factors (windows, position of my room, etc.), my bedroom, unfortunately, gets REALLY hot in the summer, and REALLY cold in the winter, despite having central heating & air-conditioning — and I need to use external devices (like a space heater or a fan -- depending on the season) to regulate the temperature in my bedroom to a tolerable/comfortable level. However, since it was already towards the end of the end of the summer, by then, and because I had bought that fan in a rush, and it had turned out to be such a dud, I wanted to take my time choosing this one. So I waited until after the last month or so of summer, as well as fall & winter had passed, and started looking for a new fan in the spring of this year, and finally bought this 16 in. BLACK+DECKER Stand Fan with Remote Control in early May, before summer would arrive, and it might become unbearably hot in my bedroom. So I got this fan, and read through the manual and set it up. It was pretty easy to assemble with the instructions, and for the most part (granted, I've only had this fan for a couple months or so, now) I am pretty happy with this fan, and in some ways (like how it has a holder on the stand, to store the remote control) its EVEN BETTER than my last fan, the Honeywell HS-1655 QuietSet 16" Stand Fan Like my last fan, this one is also 16 inches, and it also comes with a remote control, as well as the aforementioned storage container on the stand itself, to stash the remote control when the remote is not needed and/or the fan is not in use — which is a GOOD thing for those like me, who are very disorganized, messy and/or have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). I am ALWAYS searching for a particular remote at one time or another — and there are just SO MANY of them now (though I'm trying to consolidate at least SOME of them). I mean, all told, I probably have over a dozen different remotes, and I can never keep track of them, especially the smaller sized remotes like the Apple TV remote and those for my CD clock radio and my iPod speaker dock alarm clock. Which is why I'm so glad that this model comes with a remote holder on the stand, because since I rarely need to use the remote for the fan, I usually keep it stashed in the remote holder, which means one less remote to worry about and need to keep looking for. This fan has 3 settings, Low, Medium and High, and can be changed either by the remote or by pressing a button on the stand. Although I wish it were a little stronger on each setting (hence the 4 star rating), its a pretty good flow and I'm mostly satisfied with it. Apparently this fan also has a timer, though since I've never used it so far, I cannot speak to it, or how it works — and since I also seemed to have misplaced the manual (I'm sure its probably around somewhere, and I'll find it at some point -- if not, I'll have to get/download another one online, if I can) I'm not sure how to set up the timer. But I haven't really needed it so far, and if that changes I guess I'll figure it out then. In the meantime, I'm pretty happy with this fan though, since I've only had/used this fan for a couple months or so, I'll probably come back and update this review later, if there is anything major that changes about it. For now though, I DO recommend this fan and think its a good product ★☆★☆★ 5 STARS!!!!

Our old Honeywell tall oscillating fan died on us this year. Everything I could find as a replacement was smaller, and made of the cheapest possible plastic. It all felt like it would fall apart in a few months, and I expected it to fit the $25 +/-price tags. So when I found this Black & Decker name brand I was excited to try it. B&D makes solid products, unlike Lasko or Mainstays. The price was a little higher but I don't care about paying more, so long as the quality is there and the item lasts. I was more than impressed with this fan! It's super heavy and solid, which is great so the kids aren't going to knock it over or break it running into it. It's also crazy quiet. I usually set it to medium and can barely hear it. The fact that it has a timer is really nice, and the remote control is just a bonus. Awesome fan, really hope it lives through the next ten years.
