This thing is a terrible torture device... THAT WORKS. It's horrible. But it also works. I have awful reaction to mosquito (and other, even creepier to think about) bug bites. And the awfulness of my reaction is only eclipsed by how much those little terrible devil's spawn ABSOLUTELY LOVE me. My head & neck area must be unbearably delicious! Because they bite me there all the time! Oh, you're sleeping?? Lemme get some of that neck! Oh, walking around?? Forehead buffet then!! Oh it's cold outside so you're all bundled up?? Exposed eyelid! Nom nom nom!!! So now that we've established how mosquitoes converse with me, let's move on to this modern mideval torture device. It gets hot. REALLY HOT. And it concentrates that heat onto your body in a tiny little spot the size of a Q tip head for 3 to 5 tortuous seconds. I can't seem to be able to apply it to myself. Partly because of the cursed vampire fly's proclivity for biting me in spots I can only see backwards in a mirror, and party because I'm a total wimp when it comes to inflicting great pain on myself. Now my husband on the other hand, he can handle it. He says he doesn't enjoy the torture application (which I want to believe because he's ever so sweet 100% of the rest of the time), but he does volunteer to help me with the misery device awfully quickly. I asked him if I could hold on to him while he applied the heat toy neck tonight, and he quickly put his legs together... I guess he's afraid of uncontrollable fingernail backlash, which I admit is a valid concern. So - pain level. Let's say it's between a 1 and HOLYSHIT. The good thing is that it's only 3 seconds. So, it sounds like this: Are you ready? No. Look away. Oh my god. Here we go. OHMYGODWHATTHEFAREYOUDO.... And then it's over. And the normal 7-10 days of itching & scratching & waking up in the night itching & being distracted all day because of the incessant itching & the application of all kinds of creams & gels that don't work but get on your clothes & hair anyway & keeps itching & the Benadryl hangovers & yet still itching & all that???? Well think of it like ALL THAT PAIN & ANNOYANCE is condensed into a 3 second period. So would that hurt??? Yes. A LOT. Is it worth it??? HELL YEAH. BTW, the packaging shows pictures of adults applying this excruciation to children. It's been a long time since I was a child, and I don't have children, but I'll tell ya, either those pictures are faked, or German kids are WAY tougher than I can imagine. If you use this on a kid, expect tears. And eventual revenge.

I am mosquitoes' favorite food, and my body overreacts to their bites, which often swell up to 2" in diameter. In order to test the effectiveness of this device, I ventured out into the mosquito-infested backyard. The first downside I noticed is the small size of the heat-emitting ceramic disc, so accurately locating the bites is a must. The disc has to be dead center on top of the bite. Sometimes it is hard for mosquito bites because the bite mark is not always obvious. For areas that you cannot see directly, such as face or neck, accurately applying the disc is almost impossible without another person or a mirror. Another downside is how quickly the device is used after the bite. It works quite well when it is used on bites within seconds. The bite may continue to swell after application, but it does not get as big as it normally would, and thus symptoms are lessened. It worked to a lesser extent after about 30 seconds or so. But it does not hurt to try anyway. I will continue to carry it with me whenever I do yard work; however, it does not eliminate the need of mosquito repellent. It can be used in conjunction with other mosquito bite remedies, provided you react very quickly to a recent bite.

Mosquitos love me. When I get bit, I went up bad. The bumps are huge. I took a trip to Bali and was so nervous about being bit. I sprayed a tons of bug spray and for the most part I was good. One day I showered and stepped outside without spraying. Immediately I got two bites. I quickly got this zapper and zapped it twice. The bite never welted up. It didn’t itch. This thing was a MIRACLE! The friends I went with didn’t believe me until they tried it. It worked 100%. It does get hot but it’s such a small surface area that it didn’t both me. I thought it actually felt good on the bite.

Following the easy to use directions and suggestion to start with the 3 second setting I decided to use it for the first time today. I camp frequently but this trip was the first time the mosquitoes decided I was the one. I think the directions are easy, and I believe I’ve gotten some relief from the itching but I’d take the bug bite over the burn blister in it’s place now. Luckily I only tried it on one of the many bites I have, but even the 3 seconds was just too much for me apparently. The Amazon product description does stay Adult for the age range, despite the advertising saying safe for children. I would not use this on a 2+ child as advertised as they may have overly sensitive skin like mine apparently. Maybe I’m supposed to ONLY use the product on my arms like all the photos show? My bites were on my leg and hand so not much I can do about that. Not going to leave a poor review because it did work as directed, but not for me sadly.
