The media could not be loaded. I absolutely love this tank—it’s modern, beautiful, and has completely exceeded my expectations. I paired it with a BioOrb décor set, which I also love, and everything feels high-quality and well-made. The packaging was great, and after 3 months it’s holding up perfectly. There’s a little algae growth, but that’s probably because I keep the light on so often—I can’t stop admiring the tank and watching my fishies! The media could not be loaded. Pros: very quiet, ultra clear, practical dimensions, easy to set up, bright light, sleek design, would look good with a variety of interior design styles. Cons: light isn’t dimmable (worried it’s too bright for my betta), limited access via cover in the top, pump only has one speed, view distorted at curved corners. This is a great small aquarium, my betta seems to be very happy since moving in. It wasn’t apparent from the description and photos that I would be able to run the heater cord through the lid, but there is a small hole just behind the power cord connecting the light that fits the heater cord perfectly. -very loud air pump no matter what I do. -light is very bright and not really suited for plants -internal filter carts they want you to buy are a scam and expensive. filter Medium is too small, and doesn't really need to be replaced like they suggest. Same with the sponge, you can rinse your sponges/medium in aquarium water and get a lot of life our them. Just a huge waste of plastic if you follow their suggestion of buy new filters everytime and is also counter productive to keeping a cycle since new bacteria needs to be established. - internal filter idea is interesting but will consume and kill nano fish due to how the intake works. killed quite a few of my fish. - cleaning is a pain due to small lid - adding heaters or anything else looks bad since there is no extra holes. have to keep lid off or slightly off for space. - air intake tube for filter is at bottom of tank, when it inevitably fails it will leak everywhere. I finally managed to get it in a functionally better place after heavily modifying it but you loose the minimal look in the process. my mods are - - removing the internal filter entirely, its easy to do just remove some screws. using small plastic sheets and aquarium silicon I sealed up the hole. - made a custom laser cut lid that has mounts for a better light and holes for whatever (air tubes, heater cords etc) - added a basic filter, in my case a small sponge filter but anything would work. worked great once tank was cycled. ... show more

    • Beautiful looking tank with a few things to consider, especially if you are a beginner

I love the look of this tank. It is beautiful and the water stays very clear. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have added fish as soon as I did, about a week after setting the tank up. They died off very quickly the first two times I populated the tank. I think it takes longer to grow the "good" bacteria. After the two die-offs, I'm cautiously optimistic that things have stabilized since I haven't had a death in 3 weeks. I hadn't had an aquarium in a long time and this was a very different system compared to my old under gravel filter tank. You need to be mindful about how sharp and jagged the ceramic media is, especially if you are putting bottom feeders into the tank. I lost some panda corys to those jagged edges. I added about 5 pounds of smooth river rock to cover most of the ceramic media and the round filter in the middle. I also purchased the overpriced filter cover to avoid getting fish sucked into the unit. Moving things around is difficult due to the small opening at the top of the tank, so best to get it right before adding fish. I purchased a kit with long scissors and tweezers that I use all the time so I don't need to stick my hands in the tank, and a small siphon that came with cleaning tools for the weekly water changes, which makes it very easy. I mention these things because it didn't occur to me to buy them when I bought the tank. I didn't buy the overpriced biorb plastic decor, I bought real plants (the kind that don't need dirt like Java fern) and used aquarium glue to fasten them to rocks and some driftwood. It helps that water quality. I had to take out some plants (looked like miniature water lillys) that floated at the top because they got gunky due to the bright light. I also only turn on the light for 8-10 hours a day to avoid creating lots of algae. I hope this review helps other beginners. It is a gorgeous tank! ... show more
