  • AWESOME!!! Sturdy and Minimalist footprint
Style: Max Weight 55lb
I ride a Kent FleXor 29. It's a solid bike that I picked up new at a bargain price. I love to ride, so I decked it out with forward tank bag, under-seat tool kit bag, LED headlight for nighttime riding, and even a discreet electronic horn to grab the attention of clueless pedestrians or the occasionally blind driver when I approach his/her blind spot. I ride at least 20 miles commuting every day, and I pursue birdwatching and other outdoor activities on the weekends. I always carry a fanny-pack to hold my phone, wallet, and credit cards. My current iteration of fanny pack also came with a conveniently accessible squeezable 500ml water bottle. And I used to carry a backpack. When you haul a backpack of any weight for distance - even as few as 5lbs of weight - you will suffer stiffness and back/neck pain. I figured I needed a bike rack, but I wanted something minimalist but strong and functional. This "Bike Rear Rack Retractable Aluminum Alloy Bicycle Cargo Rack Mount" from Outtag Store is AWESOME!!! It certainly is robust enough to support 55 lbs, and it comes in a small footprint - ideal for trail bikes and hybrids. Face it, you're not riding a trail bike to deliver groceries. But you do need something hard enough to haul your adventure kits and take a pounding on rough terrain and back roads. This unit attached securely and takes a beating. The metallic black color adds just enough rigor to the bike's silhouette without detracting from its rugged demeanor. But I had one problem with this rack. The brace leg supports extend out as far as 14.7 inches (32.5 cm), but my Kent FleXor 29 seemingly needs about 17-18 inches to more comfortably extend the rack fully away from my seat. I tried to make it work because I really like this sturdy footprint. Unfortunately, I just cannot reach that extra 2-inch level to more comfortably attach the rack. I contacted the seller, and the company got back to me promptly within 12 hours. Unfortunately, the legs are what they are. The manufacturer does not have a work-around at this time. But they did come up with a more than fair solution. Suffice it to say, I will be buying from this vendor again. The short of it: Fine, sturdy, minimalist bike rack – but may not fit a 29" frame. I hope the designer goes back to the drawing board to add 3 inches to the leg brace extension. ... show more

  • Lightweight, clean minimalist look Lightweight, clean minimalist look
Style: Max Weight 22lb
I have a mountain bike and didn't buy this for trail-riding, but a few times a year I attend biking events (bike-a-thons, Wounded Warrior fundraisers, etc.). I don't like the look of saddle bags, so I use this to carry a small backpack filled with extra water, a dry T-shirt, a mini battery-operated inflator, and a tool pack. When it's hot, I don't like wearing a backpack. I use small, adjustable bungee cords to secure whatever I'm carrying. I chose the 22 lb version for two reasons - one, I'll never need to carry even close to 22 lbs and secondly, I prefer the minimalist look without the extra bars and brackets. It's more of a clean, streamlined look. It's also much easier and quicker to install and uninstall the rack without the other brackets. It's very lightweight but built well enough. But don't overload it, as a lot of stress is put on it when riding over bumps and ruts. It was shipped bubble-wrapped in a heavy envelope and arrived with no damage. The tray is adjustable - but that doesn't mean the cargo area extends, it just means you can slide the tray closer or further from your seat. This is helpful depending on how high your seat is. If you look at my photos, I have it extended almost as far as it can go (away from the seat). If I positioned it closer to the seat, there wouldn't be enough clearance for my backpack. On that note, you will need a decent amount of seat post available to install the rack. The height of my seat provides plenty, but check your situation before ordering. If your seat is at its lowest height, this will not work for you. I am happy with this and recommend it so far. NOTE: I purchased this item on Amazon for full price and have no affiliation to the seller. I try to write helpful, unbiased and insightful reviews because I also read reviews prior to making my own buying decisions. Many reviews are too brief, lack helpful information and don't support their opinions with examples. Writing useful reviews helps pay it forward. ... show more

  • Great

Wish it was just slightly more adjustable. Satisfied with the quality and design. It is functional and was easy to install. I personally like that it didn’t have quick releases

Very light and strong. I bought an e-bike being light wasn't really a factor.

  • Not well designed
Style: Max Weight 55lb
The angle of the main seatpole attachment is one angle only. I didn't think this through, it's on me. On 3 different bikes it wan't the right angle for level. It's a mix of one-size-fits-all and "onlys upports this" ... In the future I will look for one with an adjustable angle. The rest of the attachment system is super inconvenient. If anything comes loose ever it's not going to be fun. I've worked on a lot of bikes. This is super overcompilcated. The extension poles rely on a single bolt that works by friction. It would make more sense to have graduated holes. It's really a lot of more complication for very little return. I would recommend the simpler version of this product without the extra weight supports altogether - assuming the seatpole angle is the same on your bike if you want it to be level. Overall I'd recommend another product. Other than that, it seems like good steel and I don't see any of the defects some others mentioned. I hope this works out for me because it was a pain to get on and it won't be fun getting off. ... show more

  • Too Tall with bag. Didn't work for me, may work for you.
Style: Max Weight 22lb
Need to be aware of height with this type of mount. I had to return because with the bag the bag was higher than my seat and made it difficult getting on and off the bike. This will work if you have 6" or bag height of seat post showing. Otherwise it ends up being too high compared to frame mounted racks. Or if you don't bother with a bag than this would be fine. Otherwise it is made very well and I like the adjustable feature. ... show more

  • Versatile
Style: Max Weight 55lb
Chose the rack with additional support rods. Glad I did because not only will it support the extra weight it also serves to keep the saddlebag i bought from getting caught up in the tire. This rack has many adjustable points. Should fit most any bike.
