Description

The broad axe, also known as a hewing axe, is designed for hewing logs into square timbers. This axe has been hand forged by the skilled blacksmiths of family owned Leonhard Mueller & Soehne at the Himmelsberger Zeughammerwerk in Austria from high grade steel and then carefully hardened and tempered for the best combination and hardness and toughness. This Broad Axe is beveled on the right side only and features a slightly right angled poll and eye enabling the handle and your hands to be kept away from the timber. The left side of the axe is completely flat. This design allows you to use the axe to hew the right side of the log with precision. The edge is razor sharp having been honed on a water cooled sharpening stone at the forge. The head weighs 3-1/4 lbs and the face is 7-3/8" wide. Premium grade 23" long hickory handle, lightly waxed and safety wedged to the axe head. Made in Austria. Mueller Axes, have been hand forged in Austria, dating all the way back to the 1600's. Mueller has a very long and deserved reputation as being highly functional tools of uncompromising quality and workmanship. Highly skilled craftsmans combine modern-day techniques with artistry passed down from many generations of blacksmiths. You can trust the quality of Mueller's tools because they think enough of them to put a life-time warranty on everyone. We know you will enjoy owning and using these beautiful axes for generations to come!

  • High quality axe
Style: Left Bevel
This is a high-quality tool for hewing logs. A pleasure to use. The chisel-like single bevel of the blade is a must to get the desired effect. I'm a righty and the left bevel was the ticket. I could use a slightly heavier head perhaps as I like a heavier swing but it has done everything I asked of it. Love the history and tradition behind this product. ... show more

  • Nice...!
Style: Right Bevel
This right bevel hewin axe is a beast. Good weight, and design. The handle, has about the perfect grain orientation with a gentle off set which works well to be able to line up the cut. The steel cutting edge really holds an edge well, even busting through tough knots. The only downer is, the flat side had an over bend which I had to file off and then resharpen the beveled side. Oh well, still a hefty hewing axe for the monies. The leather sheath is nice, but could use a thicker welt, but, I just put a little section of 1/4 inch rope inside to help protect the cutting edge and works good. It came quickly and very well packaged. Overall, I like it ! ... show more

  • Awesome axe
Style: Right Bevel
Its not an axe for felling trees obviously, but for shaping once it is down. Its a real knuckle saver given the angle of the blade to the desired cut. The one I picked up was right handed, which is good by me, but if you are a south paw you might want a different angle on the axe. It came pretty sharp, but you will want to take a file and a sharpening stone to it before you use it. ... show more

  • good quality tool
Style: Right Bevel
The tool I should have had years ago I was very surprised by the quality I have only tested it on a black walnut log the axe held it's edge nicely it came relatively sharp I used my diamond stone to touch it up a little I am looking forward to years of use the axe head looks to be made of a good quality of the steel ... show more
