  • Awesome! But,
Color: Black
This aquarium is awesome! All the components are provided and nothing is missing. The only thing that’s missing is a video of how to install the filters. I saw some shoppers videos but they’re all different. I wish the seller would provide a clear how to steps. The booklet is not that clear.

  • A three-fish environment
Color: Black
This AQUASMITH Beta Fish Tank, 2 Gallon Fish Aquarium specifically has the words Beta Fish in the title because it's really sized for one Beta sized fish. It could also support 3 or maybe 4 neon tetras or maybe two to three mollies or guppies. It's advertised as holding 2 gallons of water, but the available habitat area for fish is about 1.5 gallons. It did arrive very well packaged, and nothing was damaged. There are filters (that will need to be cleaned or replaced over time), that fit into a hidden back wall. And, the filtration system forces the water to flow downwards through the gravel and through a filter in that location. That filter would require removal of the gravel to maintenance. I actually like the under-gravel filter set up, but that means you must use gravel, not sand, for it to function well. However, there aren't as many perforations in the floor as truly necessary to provide really good under ground filtration. Also, I think the term "self cleaning" in the product description isn't actually accurate. This tank - especially because of its small size - will need to be on a very tight cleaning schedule to prevent the fish from experiencing life threatening conditions in the water. A real positive is the built-in feature that allows for quick water exchanges (which, for a tank this size will be necessary for the fish health). I usually have to use a plastic cup that I dip into the tank to remove water - which is more disturbing to both the fish and any dirt that's on the bottom of the tank. But, this tank allows for a quick, turn of the water filtration port to outside the tank, and then you press it down to a position that restarts the flow into your external container. That's a really nice feather. A heater isn't include, which will be necessary depending upon the species of fish you put into it. Even a small heater ends up taking up space, and in such a small tank, that can be significant. You do need to purchase an aerator, if you want to provide additional aeration in the tank - which I would strongly recommend, even if you add natural plants. All in all, it's a good little tank for 1 - 3 fishes and it will require more maintenance than you might think... but, that work will not be overwhelming due to the tank's small size. ... show more

  • Self-emptying filter system- Super Cool!!
Color: Black
Great Gift idea!! Of course this tank will need some supporting equipment such as bubbler & heater to name a few. I love the sleek look, very nice on an office desk or in a professional setting. I agree with others about advising against a standard heater since the space is so limited that small heaters may get too hot. You will need water chemicals, substrate & décor. Do Not Use Sand!! The intake for the filter is in the floor like an under-gravel filter, therefore you must use ground covering bigger than the intake grate at the bottom of the tank. This tank comes with several extra filter cartridges so you wont need to buy any for a long time. This tank was easy to assemble. Must be fully assembled including the light before filling with water, you will need to run the cords down the back of this unit on the inside (easier done if empty). Nice thick glass gives the tank a magnified effect (everything will appear a little bigger in this tank). Oh!.. and in case you are wondering if the words on the front of the tank at the top are a sticker or can come off? Nope! The words 'Mini' and whatever that says in Mandarin are etched into the glass, no way to remove. This tank is set up for freshwater and keeps freshwater best, but can have additional equipment to convert it into saltwater (just remember, don't use sand or the whole system will clog). COOLEST FEATURE- the self-emptying pump feature! Just pop the pump tube up and turn to the side to pump all the water out into any bowl or bucket. This tank features a neat LED light. At first I didn't understand how it worked since the button isn't press-able, instead, you rest your finger on it and it senses the heat from your finger and adjusts itself for you. If you keep your finger on there it turns on to bright, then a second later it dims, then a second later it dims again. Then the next second it shuts off. If you just touch and let go, its turns up to 100%. A second quick touch will shut it off. Just like a touch lamp. Plan on using a bubbler with this tank, because the filter is so soft that it doesn't really stir the top of the water as I found out in just a few days... without something breaking the surface, the water turned deadly stagnant at the top with a rainbow slick (see pictured). The bubbles from an air stone will keep the water healthy and prevent stagnant top water slicks. Something to consider... This tank IS a 2 gallon tank, However only 1.5 gallons is actual swim-able space. This is because ½ a gallon is filled up in the filtration system in the back. This IS NOT CONSIDERED when calculating how many fish can safely survive in such a small tank. When calculating how many fish per gallon of water you need, the formula for freshwater is 1 gallon of water per 1 inch of fish. So this tank can only sustain up to 1.5 inches of fish. For Saltwater its 5 gallons per 1 inch of fish (which is why so many fish including clown fish dont last long in nano tanks) -Fish to Water conversion Chart from API- Take the length of the fish at full grown adult size, (not from the size of the babies you bought from the pet store) and add a gallon of water for each inch that this fish will be at full grown. Example: Betta fish max out at 1.5 – 2 inches long, Guppies at 1 inch. Skittle shrimp range from ½ inch to ¾ inch. Given this safe water parameter, you could keep- 1 betta, or just 1 guppy and so on as a permanent home. This tank is very nice for a hospital tank since the engine is nearly silent. Or baby breeder for a few weeks. Personally I think it makes a lovely tank for just a few plants and maybe 1 snail comfortably to sit on an office desk. A spot of Zen and peace to escape work for a moment so you can reconnect & regroup. Perfect for the stressed office worker in your life!! ... show more
